Received this message from one of my publishers. No big deal since they haven't made much income for me anyway - but is going to have a domino effect on the rest of the music industry? "Greetings Artists!
We would like to update our artists on the status of our Content ID (CID) initiative, as we have moved into our final phase. The mission of this initiative is to provide our clients with a 100% copyright claim free experience online.
What this means for our artists is that firstly, we are no longer accepting music that is, or will be registered in CID. Secondly, we have been scanning our catalog for CID claims and disabling music that triggers a copyright claim. Please login and go to your "My Music" page and have a look to see if any of your tracks have tested positive for CID, and have been disabled. If you are able to remove your music from CID, let us know and we can reactivate your music in our catalog.
Many of you have already been in touch, and were surprised to see that your music tested CID positive, and has been disabled. We know this stuff is confusing, so we've written a guide to help minimize confusion around how your music could have ended up in CID without your knowledge. We have included a technique to scan and test your music, and find out who registered your music in CID on your behalf.
We sincerely hate having to disable so much great music, and we've struggled with this decision for a long time. What it comes down to is that it's our obligation to provide our clients with a copyright claim free experience if they legitimately purchase the rights to use our music.
Also as a heads up, we are wrapping up our accounting for Pay Period 2, 2020, and payments will be going out starting Feb 15 and will be completed by the end of the month. Please make sure your Paypal email is up to date in your profile so there won't be any payment issues.
Thanks as always for all the great music!John

Trying to understand the issue with CID... So, guess if a wav/ mp3 file has a CID identifier, then YouTube will take it off, because of possible lawsuits. And the music library’s license won't hold up, thus, a dissatisfied client. Am I missing something? John

https://www.google.com/search?q=wha...148j1j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8 With no more understanding than that, it seems to me that only people who do not have permission to 'use' your music would have a problem with your Content Identification. CID is likely the digitally embedded data in your recordings that the Shazam application picks up by just 'listening' to music coming out of a radio, or other device, and enables it to 'Identify' the Song title and artist. If the person putting it on Youtube, just for an example, does not have authority to put it on there, it might be blocked. You may want to query someone at Youtube to see what their explanation might be. Any 'user' in the commercial realm, using your music to make them money, should have your permission to do so, and your ability to know about it, to enable collection of your Royalties in exchange for 'use'. What 'use' is your Publisher making of your music that they would NOT want your Content ID data in it? Content ID is likely how terrestrial radio tracks plays, and reports them to your Performance Rights Organization, for calculation of your Songwriting and Publishing Royalties. Why would you NOT want that data documented in any 'use' of your music? I think your Publisher should have more of an explanation than you seem to have gotten so far. Could it be that your publisher has licensed music (that they have rights to) to a YouTube client (artist) only to discover that the music has been entered into YouTube’s CID program generating a claim? The link provided says YouTube requires writers/composers who tag a piece for CID monitoring must have exclusive ownership of the music, writer side and publisher side you would assume. Sounds like they’re taking it all down and putting it on the originators to upload CID free music to 1.) avoid claims, and 2.) ensuring rights splits reflect current ownership. The implication from your publisher also seems to suggest that some of this music has a convoluted rights pedigree at best, or at worst, someone is trying to claim music they don’t own.

It can not be what is made simple. When I get material other than an mp3 download for pocket change, I would like a traditional company that distributes recordings physically leading to the internet. They are increasingly hard to come by. After the covid virus hit I had to make a decision between the net and my paid job. I am not net savvy yet.

"Sometimes reaching a goal earlier than planned is a great achievement. It shows you have worked hard, pushed ahead and made it happen. However, sometimes reaching a goal far past your original deadline, long after you wanted to complete it, and after the accolades you might once have gotten for the achievement are over, it is an even greater achievement. This shows you never gave up, due to adversity, deficit, criticism and those little life detours that end many dreams and goals. In many ways, this is a reason for even more pride!" -Brian Austin Whitney
