I posted this recording in mp3 forum and JAPOV asked about my recording set up, as vocals needed more clarity: https://soundcloud.com/wbdraper/destination-freedomwav-1I used an old ladder braced Gibson made kalamazoo with a seymour duncan 'Woody' pick up. I plugged into a chinese made fender blues junior knock off, and set the reverb to 5. Next I placed my zoom R8 at the foot of the amp, opened two channels and started the recording. I sang as I played. Result: The guitar sounded good, nice and clear. My vocal, was way way back in mix. So...I opened another channel, replayed original and overdubbed a redo of the vocal over top first one. What I need is to get two mics...one for vocal, one for guitar. Another thing could do is chart the music into exact measure and do music only, then vocal. What is your set up? Bill

Ha! I actually kinda' like the over-dubbed vox effect But, yes... you do need at least a vocal mic! I have the ZOOM R24 version of your Tascam which I basically use as a pre-mixer/interface for my computer. The built in stereo mics alone are great for recording acoustic guitar, but I like the effect you're getting with your amp! Those mics do OK for "roomy background" vox, but you do need a mic to punch out your lead vox. https://www.shure.com/en-US/products/microphones/sm58I've used an old Shure Prologue for more than 30yrs because, when I bought it, I couldn't afford the SM58 LOL

I copied this from your MFB III project:
This is a OneDrive link, Copy and paste to your browser and download...
https://1drv.ms/u/s!AvhYtsmGPbdOlFrlsZcCiDXrS4bE
8 measure intro 16 measures each for verses 1-3 8 measure break (like intro) 20 measures and lift for verse 4 16 measures for verse 5 Outro Listen for fills and changes
Now, you can play and sing this like you normally do...
"""OR"""
You can listen with headphones and sing into your Tascam, then send me your vox and I'll re-mix wink
It greatly interested me: I dug into all of that and expanded me brain:
-downloaded the file -dragged it into Audacity -used my R8 as interface -researched how to overdub in Audacity -played around with OneDrive and deleted all my files...whoops! (all in recycle bin so restored) -fun
Next, I'll check out the measures and lay an instrumental track-further brain expansion lol
I'll look into getting an SM8.
Bill

Lol, that's great Bill! Welcome to the project Hopefully, when Matt gets back, he'll smooth out his vocals and you can add some "real" acoustic trax! Tony

Hey Bill, I always take for granted that people know, I'm always willing to re-mix and collab lol... If you want to try this with one of your trax just say the word

Thanks Tony. I know what you mean.
Creating a track and sending it to you for remix - ok, I'll try that for starts.

BTW... I don't know how your Tascam is set up, but my ZOOM gives me the option to use stereo mics or just one. Try singing into just one mic on a separate track if you can

I have a ZOOM R8. It has all of the features of the ZOOM R24, but only 8 tracks instead of 24.
Two projects then:
1. a guitar track for Matts song 2. a sing track for my 'Heading for Freedom'

Hmmmm..., where did I get Tascam from? Lol We can probably wait to see if Mat wants to "re-arrange" lol... I gave him plenty of room so, it depends on how he wants to sing it

Tony. This forum has potential don't you think? Help hobby music folk bring sound to there written efforts. Increase interest in JPF. Help raise funds for Brian too. Bill

I appreciate the enthusiasm, Bill, I really do... But, I kinda' get the impression that Brian has already made up his mind. Besides, I've been a miserable online collaborative failure for more than 25yrs lol. Don't be too put off by Dom and I... He's been provoking me, and others, for years... Besides, perhaps folks now realize just how patient, understanding, and kind I've actually tried to be all this time

Actual music discussion!
I use Ableton, Native Instruments and Arturia plugins and I have an SSL 2+ interface. I just need more time to play with all the toys!
