Well, it wasn't a topic I started. I think it was something about Trump. (Who I don't care about). But I posted quite a few times, some of it well researched, then the topic vanished.
I considered it a waste of my time, unless it was just moved somewhere else.

If the original 'poster' deletes his/her post all attendant responses are likely to disappear too. Speculation on my part.

I'm convinced that "aggressive moderation" to achieve "peaceful inclusiveness" is contrary to limitless creativity. But, unlimited permissiveness seems to invite chaos, not to mention juvenile revilement... There's never a shortage of opinions among songwriters writing and performing for each other lol, as critiques are assumed and given.
However... Blatant stalking, "trolling" activity is hard to tolerate. Criticism just for the sake of criticism, in an effort to derail normal and cooperative site activity, while perpetually condemning the usefulness and purpose of the forum to begin with... such an "harassing campaign" isn't just discouraging, it's willfully counterproductive and anti-collaborative.
A designated public forum is usually a mature self governing balance of respectful mutual interest, and polite tolerance of opinionated pedestrian tourism. Everyone, especially songwriters, has a right to their own unique voice, but sometimes that "entitlement" gets out of hand. It goes beyond a simple "clash of personalities".
Most people try to "think ahead" and choose their battles. But, when common sense is negated by lack of impulse control, the obvious motive is a singular personal investment in combative discourse despite harmonious community involvement. The argument becomes more important than participation.
So, in an environment where the activity of the collective is dependent upon honest and tolerant freedom of speech in order to facilitate the uncensored exchange of ideas, when does moderation among consenting adults become absolutely necessary?
I'm reminded of the irony of the music industry... The target market is generally adolescents and young adults; But children aren't allowed in bars.

Awesome post Tony.
I saw that post and clicked looking for opinions on da Trump. Read CG definition of Conservative, and thought Holy, thats me.
Then saw reference to Amos...and thought...that's the bible? So had to check it out.
(amused by Fdemetrio..Amos is a cookie)
Found a wiki on St Augustine and thought of a line in a song "I dreamed I saw St Augustine" I created a link to read up on St Augustine later.
Then left the thread, as no info on Da Trump to be had. Bill

Bill, forget St. Augustine, and keep reading the Bible. I think that's solid advice.
I think my posts on the other topic were collateral damage in some other dispute. The moderator just deleted everything. That's not going to motivate people to devote time and energy to posting here.

I considered it a waste of my time, unless it was just moved somewhere else. So who's post was it? And it must be someone you have spoken to directly to "know" it wasn't them, which is interesting as well. I moved some posts by 2 people. One is Japov. It isn't him. The other is an unregistered "anonymous" person who posted some stuff I had no choice but to remove, in one case entirely, from the site. Threats and expletives in titles don't remain viewable. If you know who this anonymous person is, please share by all means. If it is Japov, then he knows I moved some of his posts already. Nothing gets deleted except by trolls and bots. Registered people who I know do not get deleted, including people I don't agree or like. I leave plenty of nonsense here I don't agree with. We only really have one truly anonymous poster who hasn't been deleted from our site and everyone knows who that is. When they are contributing, great. But when they are just being a troll, and they do not have their true identity known by all to hold them responsible for their actions, then they do not get the benefit of the doubt when conflict arises, any more than a bot or spam troll would. When you are anonymous, that is the risk you take. If you let me know which post or at least by who, (including if it was Japov) then I likely can find it. If it was on the post I had to delete, then it could be gone. Brian

I didn't read every post in the topic, but I think it was originally about Trump. But I did take time and effort on my posts. I don't know if you can delete someone's posts surgically or not. All I know is that mine were casualties of whatever else was going on.
And posts do get deleted. There was a debate going on several years ago about Trump's impeachment over the Ukraine phone call. I said I had read the transcript and it was innocuous. No proof otherwise was, or could be produced. My posts vanished, even though they contained no threats or profanity. The moderater couldn't counter them, and they were deleted. This was also a problem for conservative thinkers on FB back then.
My interest wasn't Trump, but the dishonesty of the media and how easily people are duped, especially if it's something they want to believe.
This is hardly a case for SCOTUS. Nevertheless, who wants to invest time in posts that will vanish?

That's not going to motivate people to devote time and energy to posting here. The obvious irony is that Grouch keeps posting... Actually, I agree... What Brian says doesn't jive with what has happened in the past. It seems that someone other than Brian has administrative access to the site... but I'll keep my speculations regarding who to myself. It's not a "current" MOD...

Well... since Brian mentioned me 3 times... I think, YES.
What really seems strange to me is, for some crazy reason, you actually chose to engage Dom... about voting for Trump!
That's a little "out of character" for you, isn't it?
Not that I really care...
Carry On, Grouch

It's not a "current" MOD... There are ZERO mods who can delete anything. There are a couple who can move posts. If someone else moved a post, I could see it. Gary didn't move anything. If you think there is a rogue Mod, please let me know. I removed the names of those who do not come around I think, but maybe I missed someone. I have been paying for the site, but like I said, it wasn't fun for me either so I didn't watch every board. Send me a note if you feel like there is something I missed and you do not want to stir up a hornets nest. If you posted on a political post CG, that is YOUR fault, not anyone else's. I gave people a chance for more than a month pinned at the top of every page to say if they wanted a political section and you did not respond. If Trump is in the title, it is a political post and won't be around long. Brian

This really isn't that big of a deal to me. I just mentioned it as being an annoyance.
My posts about Trump/Ukraine were several years ago.
Gone, Baby, Gone.
The recent topic was about Trump, but my posts weren't.
I didn't know political topics were verboten on JPF. From what I can see, that's all JPF has been for a long time. A few disgruntled geezers complaining. Even the lyrics/mp3s are often social commentary.
It's like being kicked out of McDonald's, asking the manager why, and him saying, "Hey, it's YOUR fault you bought a hamburger. Anyone who does gets booted."
JPF IS now a contentious, political site.
Que sera...
