Hi Diane:

I checked your site out and thought that was a great Idea to put two sites within one site like that for yourself and gitrdude. Very creative! I tried to listen to your song samples and had trouble getting them. I clicked the links and nothing happened. I was a little sad about that..your "Lord of the Rings" inspired song really piqued my curiosity too. Let me know if it gets going...I'd like to hear your tunes.

Cheers,

Rodney

Hi Rick,

I checked out the site, and listened to Take Me and Rain. Good sound. They remind me of a guy named Jared Woods, who is the favorite local around the Anchorage Area right now. Real good sound. I like the story from the first song on the media page (I listened, but the name is escaping me right now, sorry), and loved the drummers nightmare moment with flinging a brush across the steakhouse. Very funny story.
Best of luck to you and the boys.

Cheers,

Rodney

Hi Scott:

I took a look at your site and thought it was a really professional looking job. I liked the journal entries smack dab on the front and all the links to the great news. I'd like to hear more about SXSW - your stories about it, that is. I was supposed to go this year and plans fell through. I was pretty diappointed by that, but maybe there is still the chance for a little vicarious living. If you read this - please share about it!

Cheers,

Rodney

Hey Kris:

I checked out both of your sites and I'm listening to Ghost right now. I listened to most of the songs from both sites and I really wish I was there to catch a show or few, man. You and Pat are both real good vocalists. You are pretty lucky to have two guys in the group who can do such a great lead job. A Fool For Your Love is pretty good in both versions, I'm not really sure which I liked better, but I suppose I'd have to choose the non-acoustic version. Swell job! If you boys ever make it up to Alaska, be sure to look me up - I think your music would fit in real well up here.

Cheers,

Rodney

I have a home built site at www.isn.net/~brcurley
Sorry I haven't updated it lately but feel free to visit if you like. I may have more reason to add to it when Arlenes CD is finished in April or June. I'm from PEI Canada. Your idea seeme to have caught on fire here KC. Thanks.

Websites can work!

Here's the deal: I was in a Warren Zevon tribute last October, and did the song off WZ's last album, This Time I Have to Leave, written by Zevon's friend Dan McFarland.

The show was recorded, and a couple weeks ago I put an mp3 up of my tune (especially because I didn't do vocals - at least until the tribute).

Last week, I get a call at home from Dan McFarland his own self! Seems he did a name search, and up came my website.

And we yacked a bunch and he was incredibly flattering, and we exchanged cds, blah blah blah. Anyway, you never know, huh!

Hi Bruce!

I'm listening to Cinnamon Toast right now, it's rad! What kind of guitar do you play? It's got a nice clean tone...

My stuff's been described as 'rock acoustica'. It's bass heavy singer songwriter stuff with really fast finger picking on the treble strings and a lashing of soul singing over the top!
You can listen here:
http://www.thisischichi.com/audio.htm

The songs are in the Weed format, a new method of online music distribution that rewards people for sharing your songs. Just 'right click and save target as' to download as normal. Weed songs are Windows Media (.WMA) songs that can be bought after three listens.

Yes, KC has really started something here! Thanks, KC!

The Cinammon Toast video is with a Taylor 814, but the mp3 clip is with a nicer sounding Takamine gut-string. Whichever, glad you liked! And if you like the faster stuff, check out the mp3 of I Got Your Genre Right Here on the Samples page. (I'll be playing that one in the National Fingerstyle Championship this year.)

How does Weed reward people again?

Hey there Thunderbolt - I stopped by and checked your site out. Nice little groove going with "Brown Eyed Girl" I like that song quite a bit.

I'm not getting the abbreviation for your location in Canada. Where are you?

Heyya Bruce! Nice site and nice work! I listened to Boomer and Housewife Writer. I wish I could fingerpick like that. The music is different, but some of the picking styles remind me of Ottmar Liebert.

Great Job! I bookmarked ya and will pop in to keep a lookout and a listen to more of your stuff.

Hiya Chichi:

Welcome to JPF. I saw your post about the filesharing thing and haven't made an opinion of it as of yet, but I did swing by your site. Who built it? It is a good looking site with clear information about everything. I wanted to listen to your music but I am not sure about the weed thing. I don't have any info besides what I've read on the thread about it, so forgive me for being reticent about downloading the music when I'm not sure about what is tracking what on my machine. Can't you have some streming samples that can be played from your site? I'd like to listen, but I don't have enough info yet.

Rodney

Hi Kenny:

I hear ya. I put together my site and I hate it, but I have to wait till the web designer can get around to doing something. If you did THAT on your site - man! You did a great job, I gotta tell you. Very professional. And I took a listen to a few songs too. Really liked "It don't get no better than this". Pretty creative idea with the genie coming out of a bottle of beer. That's real clever. Nice music all around. It's a pleasure meeting you. You're a good songwriter. Thanks for the opportunity to check out your site and your music.

Glad you like, Rodney. Yeah, team!

The guy who mastered my new cd (out this month) recorded a couple Ottmar platinums, also he used to play with him. Coincidence? Well, actually, yeah...

Hello all!

Sorry for not checking back on your replies, I kind of heard nothing for a bit and thought it was a dead thread...

...but it's not!

Thanks again Kenny. Checked out your site too, it's pretty good considering you handcoded it! I did mine in Frontpage as well *using* software called Xara WebStyle 4 that does all the graphics for you. You just 'rename' the navbars and buttons and menus and make 'one page' that you 'Save As' different pages until you've got all the pages you need. You should check it out. Cost $69 and you get a CD.

A link is provided on my site on the very last line of each page (sorry to drag you there but you can follow the link to my Audio page). It's easier than pasting a link that'll get cut up anyway and I signed up for the affiliate thingie with them, I'll be honest! Want to see how that works...

I've checked out 'I Got Your Genre Right Here', Bruce Goldfish, really enjoyed it. We should swap CDs or something, my stuff is a bit more rhythmic but it's a similar polyphonic_guitar_passages_in_unusual_harmonic_phrases thing to what you've got going. And, oh yeah, I sing over the top...

I understand your concern about Weed, RodHughey, you can't be too careful with downloads and tracking software, make sure you've got a decent firewall installed... However, Weed files are just Windows Media (WMAs) that are 'locked' after the 3rd listen so you have to buy the song to hear it (and own it). I actually think with mp3s you could get *anything* downloaded onto your computer but at least with Weed you can ask the people who run WeedShare if you're worried about the content of any files - they have a reputation to safeguard.

If you go as far as buying a Weed song it means you really like it [Linked Image] and so you are given the right to share it with whoever you'd like to. In whatever way you like to as well...by p2p, making CDs of Weed songs, making them available from your web site etc etc. Anything goes...

The neat bit is that you get a percentage any time someone buys it from you, 20% (of 99 cents typically) for the first person, 10% for the person that buys it off that person and 5% for the third person in the chain (that’s the second generation listener).

Check out http://www.weedshare.com for more info about getting your songs Weedified. Why I'm really into is that you get the commission for sharing other people's songs as well! Doesn't even have to be one of your own... I've set up my own Weed page at http://www.thisischichi.com/weed.htm

Every time someone downloads and buys a song from there, I get a percentage and the artist (that I’ve come to love anyway) gets 50%. When that person shares it the same thing happens to them... It's the future of indie music.

It's been really nice reading the heartfelt opinions of such a wide variety of artists on this Forum. I joined JPF whilst at uni but got a lot busier during my last two years and never did much aside from reading Brian's emails. I think I posted once to say I was a new member from the UK!

I learnt so much from those emails though so my Weed posts are a way of saying thank you now I've got something to share...I recently got some cents for someone downloading my songs of the Internet. It's an amazing feeling.

JustPlainFolks, on the other hand, is a *wonderful thing*.

The guy who mastered my new cd (out this month) recorded a couple Ottmar platinums, also he used to play with him. Coincidence? Well, actually, yeah...

Wow - too kooky. Strange things like that have been coming to my conscious.

I went to jodywhitesides.com (real cool site BTW - very professional) yesterday and found that we had finished matering out current CDs on the same day (yesterday) and he has a song called "All the things" and I just changed the name on one of mine from "All the'se' things". Once again...coincidence? Sure.

Cheers,

Take care.

Hi Anna Marie:

I took a trip to your site and like the way you have everything set up. One thing I've been learning along the way from visiting sites and from reading about music websites is that they shouldn't be too cluttered and should be basically simple. Although I have to wait on the web guys to get to my project, my lack of html keeps mine pretty simple as well and I've used the same idea as you of having the white background which makes things a lot easier to read.

I like the pop-up audio when the site starts and the media player box so the visitor can turn it off if they want to. I was really impressed with both the site and the music. You have a real good sound, and it's no wonder you're receiving awards...kind of a no-brainer in my opinion. Nice all around work!

Cheers,

Rodney

I appreciate the information, it helps to clear up a little bit. I still haven't been to the weed site and I will go have a look at it.

Incidentally, I wanted to thank you for swinging by my site. I got the notification that you were kind enough to post your kind words on my "Where Ya At" page. It's a nice thing to see folks from abroad making an appearance.

Best of luck and I'll see you around.

Well folks, I've tried to take a llok at some sites as you have been posting them. I can honestly say that you've all impressed me with your music and your web ideas. I think I have about the plainest site of all but heck, it gets the message out. 8-)

Incidentally, after Wednesday, April 14, I will be taking brief leave of absence as the summer season is creeping up and the time is near for me go back to my humble summer job in Denali National Park and put a few dollars in my pocket so I can pay for my cd manufacturing and feed my dog.

I'll be remote so I won't readily have access to the internet until we get everything dewinterized which will be sometime around early June.

I hope you all have a pleasant, peaceful April and May and if you post your site and nobody visits, rest assured, I'll take a look-see in June when I'm back - provided you pay your hosting bill! [Linked Image]

Take care and thanks for being community!

Cheers,

Rodney

Hi. Rick Taormino (coordinator for the embryonic York, PA chapter). My site is www.drumsandmusic.com. The site is in the formative stages as well. There are a lot of great drummers' resources sites out there and a lot of great music biz/promotion sites. I'm attempting to merge the two. I'm a drummer who's made the commitment to take my band and myself full-time and make a career of it. I'm sure there are other drummers/musicians who are in the same boat, so I figured I'd share what I learn as I make the journey.

Hiya Folks,

I'm seeking a competent, website designer in the general Nashville/Columbia Tennessee area who has designed sites for songwriters before. Need mp3 upload capability, etc.

All referrals are appreciated!

Thanks,

Julian--Wow--great web presentation. I love the superhero motif. And you look like you could be one--you must cross train or something. I really dig your song, "Other Girls Do". It's got a defiant tone..your vocals are clear and stand out in the mix.
My favorite part of your website, believe it or not, was the letter to the editor you sent to Rolling Stone. You spelled out so many contradictions and injustices in the major media involving female musicians. You come down and play in the NYC area, and I'll definitely support you. Just let me know.

PS. Have you had trouble tracking on the radio stations you've submitted to? College tracking is really hard for me, as the program directors are mostly students who are nearly impossible to track down.

Best of luck!

Darren

Kenny,
I think the site is fine. You get the message across, and it's easy to follow.
