It's been an awful long time since i have posted a new tune here at JPF....

I thought you all might like this one though...

No Questions asked.... it's at Soundclick....

This is an online collab with my good friend Dan Thompson and my girlfriend Christine.
Dan plays all the instruments except bass and sings...Christine and I wrote the lyric...I played the bass and did the final mix.
All comments are welcome.

No Questions Asked"
(Dan, Christine & Joe)

These times, they are for changing
It's time for re-arranging our lives
We'll always feel the same
Even after we have changed

We once loved but, now we hate
We once gave but now we take
without regret, or hesitation
No questions asked. no questions asked

These times, they are for changing
It's time for re-arranging

We once had faith in each other
We once cared for our brothers
Times have changed, so have we
There's still time for you and me

We once loved but, now we hate
We once gave but now we take
without regret, or hesitation
No questions asked. no questions asked

These times, they are for changing
It's time for re-arranging our lives

Dan, Christine & Joe,

I enjoyed the listen. Mix-wise, the song sounds a little muddy on my speakers.

The song itself, I really enjoyed. The solo that starts at around 1:20 is beautiful, great job.

The lyrics are sad and flow very well - you're not going to cheer anyone up, but you may make them think.

All in all, great job.

Erica

Great song. The lyrics and melody seem perfectly suited to each other and the instruments sound gorgeous. Vocals are great too. I took the opportunity to listen to several other songs on your site and I'm really impressed at the number of different styles you play. I particularly liked "Chasing Sunsets", "Mama Cry" and "3000 miles". I'd really like to know how you record your guitar and mandolin - they sound great.

HI Joe! How are you my friend? Hope all is well and that you're stronger than ever after your health battle.

This song hit me as being a Cat Stevens song. And that's not just from the voice, but the sentimen and the fine playing of everything. The second listen put me in a trance, as I just stared at the screen, thinking, "this is different from what you usually do". (your usual Les Paul work).

I like your simple yet effective bass playing. (The fifths are nice,,,some thirds maybe?).

Anyway, very beauitful playing by Dan. Tasty stuff!

For any mainstream efforts, if any, I would like to hear this go to a chorus to really bring home the song's feeling. But that is something up for debate.

How about film placement? This would go great in many scenes, as I was talking on the phone with "Sub" about this very type of lyric two nights ago. He has five songs in an upcoming major film in the fall, and he said that the trick for film placement is not to be naming places, genders, time of day,,,,,anything that would tag the song for a specific image. The scene will do that. Your lyric is meaninful without being specific, which is great for film scenes of just about any serious situation.

Congrats on a good collaboration! Good to be diverse, and this sure did that for you!

Take good care of yourself, so we can hear much more of your future work.

John Daubert

Hi Michael,
Thanks for listening man...I appreciate it very much.

Hi Erica,
Thank you for checking out the tune.
glad you liked the lyric.
Dan sure can play the guitar and mandolin well. He re cords really good too.
I always enjoy our colabs together.
Thanks again.

Scott,
Thanks for checking out this tune and the others too man.
Chasing Sunsets and 3000 miles are colabs I did with Willie McCulloch several years ago.
Willie plays and sings everything except for the drums on 3000 miles. He uses a Roland PortaStudio and good mics...I don't know the brands...
Joey Drago played the drums on that one...I just wrote the lyrics.
On Momma Cry, Dan Thompson plays the guitar, banjo and mandolin...he records using a High end large diaphram condenser mic and a PreSonus Pre-amp into a stand alone recorder (tascam I think...)

The way I record acoustic guitar is as follows...
Rode NT1 into a Mackie 1402 VLZ Pro mixer into a MAudio Delta 10/10 soundcard (with a Lucid Genex6-96 external word clock) into a Pent4 PC running Cool Edit Pro 2...

it's pretty much the same signal chain for electric except I mic the cab with an sm 57...

Thanks again man....

John!
Hey man...how goes?
Thanks for asking....I am going to the gym 5 times a week now...I am losing weight and feeling stronger as time passes...still a ways to go but, my mind and body are responding and that makes me happy...

About the tune...glad you liked it man...
If I had a contact...I would submit it for a film for sure...but, I don't...
I guess I do these kind of songs for fun...the band tunes are what I am hoping will be successful.
although...Willie McCulloch and I do have a tune that was forwarded for a film by Taxi....we shall see what happens though...I aint gonna hold my breath....ya know?

Realy good to hear from you man,
Don't be a stranger.

Thanks again everyone,
Joe

Hi There,

Heard your song, absolutely beautiful, love the lyrics too. Diversity, there's always room for that, top dog!! Your work it's superb, how long have you been writing?

I'm just starting out, it's cool to be able to learn from other musicians and writers. danalyn..

Hi Danalyn,
Glad you liked the tune...
I have been writing for about 4 years now.
I wouldn't call myself superb but, thanks.

If you could post a link to your songs here....I would be glad to check them out.
Be cool and thanks again,
Joe

Joe,
This is good. My kind of song! It's all bad, what's the use?

I really like the instrumentation a lot, really beautiful.

I do have one nit on the lyrics. "There is still time for you and me" sounds like a tad of a cop out. It seemed so relentlessly honest up to that line. But I guarantee you that is probably just me and my unbalanced mind. Everyone else will want that glimmer of hope.

Anyway I really liked this song,
Tom
