G'day all JPFolks, Let me say that I wrote this song 'AS A FUN THING' and no offense is meant. I must explain that -' THERE IS NO "R" in the word "Amen". But if only half of the world's parishioners buy a CD of this song then that is ok with me. I hope that no JPFolk are offended.

lyrics for a song titled " IT'S 'A -Men '."/(c)20.04.02/Ray Thyer.

Verse1. When you pray. Say 'A-Men'

Chorus: It's 'A-Men' not 'R-Men'
It's 'A-Men' not 'R-Men'
Say 'A-Men' not 'R-Men'
Say 'A-Men' not 'R-Men'.

Verse2. When you thank the Lord, say 'A-Men'.

Chorus: It's 'A-Men'not 'R-Men'
It's 'A-Men'not 'R-Men'
Say 'A-Men'not 'R-Men'
Say 'A-Men'not 'R-Men'.

Verse3. When your luck changes, say 'A-Men'.

Chorus: It's 'A-Men' not 'R-Men'
It's 'A-Men' not 'R-Men'
It's 'A-Men' not 'R-Men'
It's 'A-Men' not 'R-Men'.

Verse4. When you pray for rain and it rains,
say 'A-Men'.

Chorus: It's 'A-Men' not 'R-Men'
It's 'A-men' not 'R-Men'
Say 'A-Men' not 'R-Men'
Say 'A-Men' not 'R-Men'

Verse5.When a new baby comes, say 'A-men'
It's 'A-Men' not 'R-Men'
It's 'A-Men' not 'R-Men'
SING 'A-A-A-A- 'A-Men'. HALLELUJAH !

You say A, and I say AH, who says R? Cute idea. What is the market for such a lyric? /Glen

I think this would be a neat children's song Ray. They would have a lot of fun singing this in Sunday school or at camp. [Linked Image]

'Fraid i told you l90ng ago Ray this couldn't float if ya gave it water wings.
To base a lyric on the differances of saying something is a pretty short vision thing. narrow even
Don't matter how you say it. It is what you mean when you say it count. And in fact if you do mean it.
Even for kids this would only work for a portion of them. Like the ones that lived in an area that pronounced it as you want the world to.
That said. If you turn this into a song saying it don't matter how you say it but if you mean it, I could see it saving itself from drowning.
Regards.

G'day Graham, Yes, you did tell me that this one was a dead fish ,or words to that effect. Let me say again that I wrote this as a 'FUN THING'. Let's wait and see what other JPFolks reclon Eh!. I think this one is a rock-n gospel song. Maybe some others may think so too? ( as a fun thing of course). best wishes Cobber,Ray.

G'day Wirdaz, I never thought about this as being a teaching song for kids. That sounds good to me, Cobber. Thanks, best wishes,Ray.

G'day Silver Kat, I really don't want to get into something so deep as pronunciation. I only used 'R' by way of explanation. What do you think of the theme - 'When it rains','When a new baby comes' etc etc? I reckon it sounds like a rock-n gospel song. Hope you agree.Best wishes, Ray in Australia.

G'day bama 43, your words eased my troubled heart tonight. Thank goodness you have seen the fun side of my song. I was beginning to worry. A million thanks, best wishes, Ray in Australia.

Hi, Ray!
It may work as a children's echo song. Try it out on some preschool teachers and see what they think. I didn't know people said Rmen.

mornin', Ray! Have to agree with some of the others about maybe working for kids, but would probably only work in your area. We say A-men or Ah-men, but not R-men! But it is kinda cute!

G'day Hurley, I guess Graham has explained things best. ( Thanks Mate!). I am gonna let this one slide off the board cause I just finished a new song. It's called 'Kookaburra Heaven'. I hope you will take a look see and tell me true if you like it. best wishes, Ray in Austrlai.

G'day carrgirl115, thanks for your kind words. But now I am gonna switch on to my new song 'Kookaburra Heaven'. Hope you will take a look see and tell me true if you like it. It is truly a 'true story that happened to me'. best wishes, Ray in Australia.

i think it could work - it's a nice happy white gospel tune [Linked Image] my ma would like it, she's the church chick in the family - i think she'd be singin n smilin with the whole choir n congregation [Linked Image]

as someone who doesn't always know when to shut up tho, i might dare continue to suggest a fuller collection of verses, ending on the current lines, as conclusions of the themes - kinda like an aesop fable story, short enough for kids to remember - i can also see muppets singin backup, but i do that even with bon jovi [Linked Image]

G'day Shadows, I thank you for your kind words. I always saw this song as a Choir sing along song sort of deep south type of music too. I'm glad that you like it. Best wishes,Ray in Australia.

Ray I think this will work as a Regional Children's Song......but not sure as to it being Universal.....I think the two most common ways of saying...A men here in the states..would be A with the long sound
and A with the Ah sound...maybe there are others..... but i DO think the Idea..is cute.

When I thank the Lord I say "A-men" and sometimes "Ah-men", but now I know better than to ever say "R-men"! Enjoyed the fun and a few chuckles, thanks! [Linked Image]

dropped back ito see what allmthe replies were saying and the big thing here is strill sticking out like the proverlials.
This lyric tells us everybody has to pronounce a word the same way.
There is no good to be had from flogging that message give the thousnads of differnt local variations gven to any given language.
If it was written to say it doesn't matter how you say it so long as you mean it, and know the meaning when you say it.
Fact is. as pertaining to a lyric, it could be that it suited a song better to be sung one way sometimes and another in a differant song to suit the musical quality of them phonetics. Just as wew use alternative pronouncinations in other words. Again/agen/agin for example.
Regards.

G'day Kaley, thanks for your kind words, best wishes, Ray.

G'day Michael Borges, I'm glad that my song made you happy. best wishes, Ray.

G'day Graham, I have been trying to think of different lyrics for the music that rung in my head when I wrote this one. In the meantime, I wish that this will just fade away. So please all JPFolks let this one slide off the board and thanks to you all for your kind words and advice and thanks Cobber for your words of wisdom.best wishes, Ray.
