There's No Lonely in Louisiana © 2002 dawg, BMI
My last girlfriend had left me just like them three before. I tried so hard to please her still she chose to close the door.
I spent a month in the mountains feelin' eye-leaky-pity-on-me; playing 8-bar blues and hittin' the booze then I heard from Pierre DuPree
He said:
(Chorus) There's no lonely in Louisiana It ain't the cajun way of life. Drag your country butt on down here, We gonna hunt you up a wife. My chere Marie, got a sister; cooks catfish and good rabbit stew. She soft on the eye, oh me oh my and she might be right for you.
So I packed some jeans n' tee shirts and headed for the big bayou. Crossed the Mississipp' at Memphis and turned t'ward Shongaloo.
Took a right on a narrow gravel, then a left on an ol' dirt lane; heard a gator cough 'neath the spanish moss and a bull frog's deep refrain.
(Chorus) There's no lonely in Louisiana It ain't the cajun way of life. Drag your country butt on down here. We gonna hunt you up a wife. My chere Marie, got a sister; cooks catfish and good rabbit stew. She soft on the eye, oh me oh my and she might be right for you.
I pulled up to his cabin, parked by the front porch out behind He said, "I'm glad fo' you to see me" I agreed I was so inclined.
Marie's sister walked on over; said her name was Juliet. I replied, "You know, I'm no Romeo, but your name I won't forget."
(Bridge) I swear Pierre tipped back his chair and tipped up a jug of shine. Said, don' you fret, sweet Juliet he ain't leavin' you behind.
(Chorus/End) There's no lonely in Louisiana It ain't the cajun way of life. Bein' by yo'self is bad for health. Every man gotta have a wife. My chere Marie, got a sister cooks catfish and good rabbit stew. She soft on the eye, oh me oh my and she might be right for you.

Thank you so kindly Teri,
Cause my spel checkur is done fell down on the job. (She says I remind her of a slinky, not very useful but fun to watch tumble down the stairs.)
That and the ink is fresh and no one has volunteered to write any music for it yet.<g>
It is good to see you back! I'll try to get an email off tonight when I finish work.

I didn't see any mispellings when I checked the title. I was just figuring Louisianna was the chick's name. ![[Linked Image]](http://www.justplainfolks.org/ubb/biggrin.gif) LOVED these lines: heard a gator cough 'neath the spanish moss and a bull frog's deep refrain. I think I almost heard it myself! Nice writing, ![[Linked Image]](http://www.justplainfolks.org/ubb/wink.gif) Tink

Bobbie is says it reads like I was describing the sounds I make in my sleep. I personally don't believe it for a minute.
Thanks for the read and the sweet thoughts. Your sticky bun will be ready by 10:00 AM.

Evenin' cobber,
Good and valid point, Graham. I know tie weakens each verse, but I flat did not know how to strengthen it.
Thanks for the read and the good thoughts...well, bar the honeymoon ones, anyway.<g>

No bout adoubt it Dawg, This one is a whole hippo of fun. But a couple spots jumped out at me (t's okay, I ducked) I see someone picked out this line as a fave, but I got to it and did the big "Say what?" is "eye-leaky-pity-on me" an expression from them thar parts? Cause it just looked a mite too strange for me. (could be my northern roots showing through) The other spot I question could be the same thing. But tell me how do you get a FRONT porch out BEHIND? picky-picky for sure, but ya didn't leave me much to claw at. ![[Linked Image]](http://www.justplainfolks.org/ubb/wink.gif) ------------------ Harriet [This message has been edited by Harriet Ames (edited 11-21-2002).]

To be completely honest, big guy,
I've never met a single Juliet yet...nor a married one neither. I don't believe I ever met a Juliet.
But I sure can appreciate the sentiment.

Top o' the mornin' t'ya, Miz Harriet,
Whole hippo of fun....that's pretty much how dear Bobbie refers to me as a term of endearment.
The line was originally "eye-leaky, take pity poor me" but it reminded me too much of that mega-hit "Leaky-squeeky eye". Of course its a line I made up, but I was hoping to sneak it on by.<g>
The "front porch behind" is a bit different. For some strange reason, groups of people who live in relative isolation seem to pick up a pattern of "backward speak" to more differentiate their own from outsiders. The Amish do this, the residents of Tangier Island in the Chesapeake Bay do it and the cajuns take it to a delightful extreme. They don't say "back door" they say "behind door".
In low lying swamp and marsh ground the orientation of a house with indoor plumbing is determined more by which little bit of land will "perc" for a septic tank than by the location of the morning sun. The porch is then put on the portion of the house which will best catch the southwest breeze in the evenings to help ward off mosquitoes and heat. They use the word front, but not back. So they either get a front porch, or a front porch behind.
Hope this helps.
Thank you for the visit and the eagle eye. Ya'll just a river jump away from being cajun now, ya know.<g>

What a unique idea, and well down. Little nits, why the word 'them' three before. The bad grammar sounds contrived to me, and makes the singer sound maybe ignorant. Or maybeit just bugs me. Also, bayou is the correct spelling though you can't hear spelling.

Fun lyric. The Amish are not as isolated as you think dawg. An Amish family here in my area has a discount grocery store. Lot of people go to it. When I was a kid the town had a place for the Amish to park their horse n buggys in. Some used to come on tractor. They do not now. They made it the place for the tailgate market for fall. Now many have cars. We have a large Amish community here. Now those Amish a few years back would not own a car but would ride in one. They used to get a famly I know to take them to Lancaster, Pa which is about 3 hours from here. So I have watched the changes in my area. It may be somewhat different in other areas with them. Later, Carl Ps I would like yours and Bobbies help heck everyones help on New Song of Love. I met her online like you did your wife. We get about four days a month in person with each other. Valentines Day 2003 I am asking her to marry me.

Hello James,
and welcome to the board, if I haven't already greeted you.
"them three" is there because Bob Young suggested it. He is a "well seasoned" and very popular and talented performer and songwriter and I have learned to trust his remarkable instincts for spotting what works in a song. I did not use the spelling "dem" because I wanted to show that the singer is not cajun, while Pierre is.
Dialect is an accepted literary tool which I use in several of my lyrics. I try not to post any explanation at the top of the page so that the lyric must tell its story unsupported. The use of dialect can help the reader and the vocalist know how I want the lyric presented.
Thanks for the help on "bayou". That's what happens when I post while the wife/spell checker is at a meeting.<g>
Thank you for taking the time to read and comment. Both are appreciated.

Well, I still disagree. If you want to sell the song I'd say there's no need to establish that the singer is grammatically ignorant. But then Bob Dylan does that stuff all the time so maybe I'm wrong. It's just the only time in the song when the guy isn't just in dialect, but actually screws up the language without adding to the song because of it. Why am I arguing? It's your song.

Mornin' James,
Sorry it took me so long to get back with you. Got hit with a computer virus and I have been running diagnostics for a day and a half. It has my 'puter running at a molasses type of speed. (Literally takes 15 minutes just to get on the internet).
I appreciate you caring enough to make your point and make it well. Thank you coming back.

Morning Dawg, Sorry to hear about the virus thing...we've had that at work. They still are down. The song is a dandy and I kinda like the dems and frawgies. There was a chef on TV a few years ago and the dude was fun because you had to figger out bout half of what he was saying! Good work IMO, Tony

Ah Tony,
You got to be talkin' about Justin Wilson, although there are now several Louisana Chefs with a cooking show on one channel or another, John's "Taste of Louisana", Emiril Lagasse (Brennan's)and Paul Prudholm, who started the entire "blackened" thing.
Glad you like this little ditty. Now I got to try writin' "her" story...once I give him a name. What do you think of "Cooter and Juliet". Don't that just conjur up a Kleenix-wastin, make-up smearin' love song?

Hi James (and Dawg)
Just gotta defend myself a bit..
First of all improper grammar is not necessarily "ignorant"..that's a pretty harsh word for just being "wrong"...
Second I'd like to own the copywrights on songs like "Them There Eyes".."I Ain't Got Nobody".."Ain't Nobodys Business If I do " and lots of others....
Sometimes little grammatical malpropisms help get a song noticed...that's why I suggested the change to Dawg...as well as for the all important (to me anyway) singability factor.
But thanks for checkin' it so close James..nice to know somebody is paing attention to grammar !
Bob
