You're Invited! Saturday, April 21, 2007 is the statewide launch date for Louisiana in Words. ABOUT THE BOOK Although there have been plenty of "day in the life" picture books, never before has a book sought to capture a single day in a state with words like this. Created from submissions received from the world over, this anthology offers an authentic diary of Louisiana. One hundred twenty nonfiction selections from known and unknown writers run chronologically from dawn to dawn, each capturing one minute in time. From Tallulah to Thibodaux, Shreveport to St. Martinville, New Iberia to New Orleans, together these minutes provide a mosaic of the landscape, heritage, speech, and traditions of Louisiana unlike anything before them. Click Here for more information about the book. The book's contributors will be present at simultaneous events across the state on this date, so it should not be hard to find an event near you. All of the events will feature contributors reading from the book and signing copies after the event. Many will have a short Q&A session with the authors as well, once they have all finished reading. "Grits is one of those country-boy words that is both singular and plural-like deer, elk and sheep. I think the singular is appropriate when there's a modifier that makes it clear one is talking about something specific. Like, 'Grits are good for you, but these here grits is tasty.'"~~Joe Wrabek

Although I've never spent alot of time in Louisiana, I did drive around Northern Shreveport and the Caddo Lake area on my way to Oklahoma once. After reading "The Life And Legend Of Leadbelly", I had to check out his old stomping ground, though I didn't get to see his grave. Went looking for a barrel house on Fannin st. What does a barrel house look like? Just kidding. According to the book it was called a barrel house because in olden days they bought barrels of bath tub gin and charged a nickle for every time you dip your cup in it. Leadbelly's early venues. Thanks, Kaley and Ben. Ben, I've never seen Ledbelly's gravesite BUT I plan to go one weekend soon and get some shots of it. When I do, I'll be sure to post them on the new photo thread.

"If someone is truly a jerk, or truly is not deserving of any positive reply from you, polite indifference is the best response you can give. Do not insult. Do not slam. Do not follow the urge to be nasty. Simply be politely indifferent." –Brian Austin Whitney
