My mom just got her first computer a month ago. She’s pretty good at the point and click thing. She wants to learn Photoshop. It’s pretty cute to see this little 70-year-old lady on the internet. We both got an easy video chat app ( Oovoo) so that we can have conversations without her having to type. I also put voice recognition on her computer, but she prefers typing because she used to be a receptionist and hasn’t used those skills in a while. She is pretty into Neopets too, which I think is funny.

That is so cute! Way to go Momma!
It's neat to see all sorts of people getting into the net and technology. What a wonderful bridge it can be!

Okay you guys:
Stop pickin' on us old geezers! I have gotten pretty good at typing on my PC's keyboard with the toes of my walker. My accomplishments: 1. Spellchecker; 2. Installed new monitor; 3. Performed brain surgery remotely via PC; 4. Re-performed brain surgery from space; 5. Gave up on brain surgery and just stayed in space to avoid lawyers/barristers.
Seriously hollygramme, your Mom is to be applauded. Encourage her every chance you get. Thanks for sharing.
All my best,
Dave Rice

Hi Riky:
I liked your line about "there goes the inheritance." My theory was stated by someone in a prayer that went something like, "Lord, let me live long enough to be a burden to my children." (LOL)
Naturally she want's to hear your music. I wish my Mom was still around to listen to mine. Give her my wishes for success and enjoyment. I hope you'll also take the time to give her some good lessons about "net security" and all the scams that go on out here in la la land.
All my best,
Dave Rice

Yeah, my mom was into the gaming as well (neopets), and she told me she has branched out into online backgammon, but luckily I think the gambling craze will miss her. You should tell your mom about Oovoo too if she wants to chat cuz it's really easy to use. Also I got my mom one of those Jitterbug phones, if you haven't heard about them look it up they're for elderly/technophobic folk, I think it's a brilliant idea.

My mom has always been what they call an "early adopter" of technology. Got XM radio not long after it came out. She had a computer (an Apple 2!!) many, many years ago. She's pretty cautious about online stuff, which is great. She's in her 70's, surfing away, downloading her video and then later talking back to her GPS while she drives...My dad, on the other hand, has an easy approach: "Would you look this up online???"
They've been married for....57 years...it works.

That is great. Lots of older folks are scared to death of computers. My wifes father was 80 staurday. He has never used a computer. He is from Brazil and has no family here. I bought him a PC and set it up Saturday. He sent his first e-mail to a relative in Brazil. When he got an e-mail back I thought he was going to cry, LOL, He was so thrilled.
