Man, if Sub can't hear it nobody can. Rats!! It's hiding under/behind the line "I don't think I'll mind at all" I went & picked up phones at Guitar Center Saturday - I had the AKG 240s in my hand (they didn't have 141s in stock, 240s were $30 more) and the guy said "try these," they're a new "natural surround sound" technology deal... I tried them both out and I liked the surround-sound better so brought them home... hope I made a good choice! (eeek!) What they do is send the sounds through the earlobe (surrounding the ear) rather than forced into the eardrum... it was wild... 3D all around my head. Anyways... I'm glad for the recommendation, & if these don't work out I can exchange them in 30 days or less. I'm gonna look at your verse melody & see what I can do. I have a killer idea for the chorus hook you need but I'm holding back on it till I hear your verses. Been offline all weekend! Catch ya soon - Linda In the last 20-30 sec, the alto/BG is singing, as she sends her stalker off to jail: "Don't drop the... don't drop.... don't drop... don't drop the soap!" OK so is it not audible or not funny?????? Linda Hi Linda I didn't pick it audio wise

Linda: What's the model number on the headphones you got? If you using the headphone as a recording tool, then maybe surround sound headphones might not be what you want (I don't know, but I'll check it out -- I'm in the market for new headphones myself).

Michele - sorry to hear you're sick! Don't pass it to me, I have an important solo on Thursday!! Get better soon! Kevin - the phones are Ultrasone S-Logic Natural Surround Sound Headphones, HFI-450's. Let me know what you think. The claim is that it is much safer hearing/listening which I am interested in, if these things are destined to be on my head a lot. PeteG - this is just a personal pet peeve of mine, but I can't stand the phrase "Little Girl" in love/relationship songs. Drives me up a wall... I'm just too literal... ~sigh~ I *KNOW* you mean an adult here but IMHO it's slightly derogatory to a woman to call her that anyway. (nothing personal - just stating a 'known issue' with me, K?) OK... be back later Linda

Paul Very kind of you, Paul. Thanks! However...Mike nailed the truth on this one: it sounds A LOT like The Eagles...more specifically, it sounds A WHOLE LOT like "Victim of Love". I hate it when that happens. It even has the same notes and feel..."what kind of love have you got?" It borders on copyright infringement, it's so close. I didn't mean to do that, but now that I hear it, it's hilarious...and of course, then I choose to whip into a three-part lead solo in a very Eaglesy way. Yikes. So, in a tribute-band sort of way, it's fun. But Mike is looking for a modern sound. I'm going to post one more shot at a chorus tomorrow, just to see if I can. Like you I was sad to see where this thread went...the important thing is that we all got a chance to write to order. So much better than "write a song about leprechauns"...this was a great opportunity to write to a particular musical style. Unfortunately, the element of competition tends to sour the apple. I sort of wish there was no potential "prize" at all. I think it's better to view this as a one-of-a-kind chance to try your hand at writing to an existing piece, period. That is a cool thing.

Hello hello hello Is there anybody in here? Nod if you can hear me...... Well it's the 19th and nearing the end of our Rock Idol Song Contest. Overall we did very very well here, much more good than bad. Sorry it got a little sour near the end, what doesn't lol... I do apologize for allowing that to happen. Also sorry if I missed anyones submission or could not give it ample time in reveiwing. I needed to get to a lot of new postings and lots of stuff here to do as well. Some things I figured out & some info 1- It's hard covering so many new & different ideas in a post like this. Maybe it should have been better planned. I think things out alot but always wind up winging it. A song contest with just entries and no reviews and conversation along the way (better idea) but how do we learn much from that???? 2- I originally posted just a chorus didn't I ?? Then Samual Joe asked for the whole song, then he never submitted anything lol.. But my first goal was more write me chorus contest, melody or lyrics or both. Letting the whole song in took away some focus and maybe made it harder, not sure about that yet... 3- Maybe instead the next reward will be a free demo enhancment/mastering Wait don't I do that all over this board already? I hate to be really school like in any way really, but maybe a little of that mentality would help, just a touch. More rules! 4- My friend dropped by tonight to listen and I asked him to rate each entry. He is my non-musician friend that all my musician friends DISLIKE at first and for a while. Then they like him later. They never respect the opinion especially when it's not full praise from a NON MUSICIAN. Then they all send there stuff to the suits and record people, loads of NON MUSICIANS or couldn't hack it musicians/songwriters. I laugh it's too much... I love it, I'm always in the middle of complete opposite personalities people, Neither can figure out how I can be so close to the other lol... Anyway his picks were very interesting, we talked about the submissions, the contest, songs we hadn't finished, we also started figuring some things out about this one... what makes it difficult to complete etc... the mixing of the hard and soft parts etc.... he always has a great point that I respect, he just thinks differently. 5- I'm gonna try the poll thingy (hope I can do it right) cause I want everyone to vote for there favorite entry.
I'm gonna be posting the string of entries going from one to another with names and numbers on a list. 6- So there will be a few things, t he members choice winner, my friends picks as the outsider who shops my music. And my picks... We will go top 5 but on the poll from all the members maybe we will make that a longer list.. not sure yet. Suggestions are welcome on that.... I'll wait to see if any thing on a final collab develops, All the entries had merrit and some would make a very cool alternate styled version of the song for sure. Tanks!!

Hi Mike
Due to not having my husband helping me with our song, I didn't get it finished, this was really hard for me, I am only a LEARNER, and it felt like I was doing it back to front, and yeah very challenging. Once my husband got sick, then I got sick, well I didn't continue with it.. I felt like I lost my right arm.
Thanks so much for giving me the opportunity to have a go at this, as time goes on, I can only get better at it.
My husband and I are still going to work on our song. Cool.

Mike..before you post anything I want to say what a great idea this was...it only got sideways because sometimes people let their passion cloud the fun part...(try being in sales, people, and you will know constant rejection)...I was looking forward to more of these in the future...I'm sure you have lots of melodic riffs in the can...what a great way for you to cowrite on some of those old ideas...hope this works out for you...good luck!

Sub, I want to say something too....I agree with Ted...Passion can create many different emotions when writing....they are different for each of us....I'm sure we all learned something here I know I did....I do hope you will continue to do something along these lines...(maybe tighten up the guidelines some)... but I think all of us came up with great ideas....I'm not sure if they are what you're looking for but that doesn't matter cuz we all put forth an effort and put it out front that is an awesome thing! Everybody have a great day! I'm off to make the donuts.....

Hi Ted & thanks! you were a real trooper bro.. Hey Kev you think you got blasted? Look at Ted's threads it's like Frazier after the Thriller In Manilla Life gets sideways all the time doesn't it. I'm sure I'll come up with more of these in different variations and such. I still think it was a very good idea and went very well overall. Part of my thinking was we to motivate people, get them to do things a little different, add a little spark to those having witers block, or just spark in there week. Also most of my songs are loaded with hooks, no matter what style I'm in I know they are..How? I gave up being a killer musician to make it that way. I wanted to test us and challenge us. The music industry can be brutal trying to get in and then being in and staying around as I know... I was in it for a brief time. Then trying to get back in! All of the basic plans, to write on demand, write in a style, write for a submission, write for a dealine. But that's all fun but in the real world there is a little bit of a prize , dream, reward involved also. Since I'm broke all I could offer was a tiny piece of the dream, The next time some body involved in a film takes to my songs, or I get the former president of Epic Records in my house again listening to my songs and hiring and me as a producer, Or Mike A (producer of Born To Run) comes over with his latest game plan.. Or even by some miracle we come up with the right song to bring up to the BIG guy. You'd be involved, along with me. Ups & Downs.. How many here have even really enjoyed the beauty of real rejection. Or maybe even more importanly than all that, like I originally said.. just throw this CD on n the car crank it up and watch your kids & there friends faces priceless!

Sub, 'twas great music to lay a couple of tracks down on...unfortunately I had alot on my plate I was working on and couldn't get back to it, if all I did was prod you to kick it up a notch on the guitar work then hey that's a plus++ I know you will pick what feels right in your gut for this piece, and that's as it should be...good luck with it, can't wait to hear the punch of the finished take...Thanks for being so generous with your time, I don't know how you did it...well I did see some 2 and 3 in the morning posts...ha...see ya...Moker

Mike: Despite what I feel was a real blow to my feeling of superior songwriting ability aka ego, somehow I am also feeling really warm and connected. No I am not gonna hug anybody. But you all have been like family - some happy, some pissed off, some confused each of us stumbling around it their unique and wonderful way and some gettng back up some giving up but I think this is what writing (and familiy, or at least musical family) is all about. I am so envious of some of yas cause you seem to write so effortlessly and come up with fresh stuff, but at the same time I really get off listening to what you do. My wife is a painter and she is really bummed out sometimes at the isolation the comes with painting - not as much comraderi with the painter crowd. Well the "B-S-Ometer" is now registering on the high end of the scale so before the bells and whistles go off I want to end this with a big !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!THANK YOU MIKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wrote another song for this, so I hope you keep this thread open until midnight tonight so I can submit it. (The hardest part of getting a song posted is getting Brandon to do the vocals.)

Sub, thanks again for running this contest. This has been a great experience. Here's my second try. I used your verse and pre-chorus, but I had to write a different opening verse to set up the "hook." Tear Your Hooks Out Of My Heart ©2008 Mike Caro/Mark Schuessler Vocals: Brandon Rounds VERSE1 You had the looks, pulled me in, that was your design Then you sunk your hooks through my skin, caught me on a line LIFT1 Why do I miss you when you're gone? Because when I'm with you I know this is so wrong... CHORUS Tear your hooks out of my heart Time to let the bleeding start It's worse when we're together than when we're apart Tear your hooks out of my heart TAG It's an emergency Lets end this suffering Goodbye! VERSE2 You carved your name in my heart like an autograph Then you did the same on your arm, but the ink fades fast LIFT2 Maybe it's time I let you go What you did to me and our love it was so cold... REPEAT CHORUS REPEAT TAG

All righty here's my lyric. It goes to my other melody, but you'll have to sing it (I guess a girl could, but a guy is better). The COOL news is, I think you could work the final lines into your "Let's end the suffering" melody if you want. I tried to, but I'm still hearing my ending. I think the two melodies would blend though. Okay now here is my OBVIOUS KILLER HOOK that I'm totally surprised NOBODY else thought of so far, and I mean DUH, we're all talking about it and nobody's calling it by name. The title of the song is: TATTOO
(lyrics by Adams/Caro/Bampfield etc etc) You carved your name Into my heart Like an autograph I did the same Upon my arm In ink that lasts You burned with pain Then faded fast I don’t know what else I can do Tried to show you I’d love you forever Now you say our love is all through Tell me what Do I do with this tattoo You don’t want my flowers You don’t want my letters And I know I’ve done all I can do What about this Scar you left me Incidentally You can’t erase tattoos I can’t erase The memories Like a robot mind And I can’t replace Your fading smile Or lose this sign Of our love I got these lines I don’t know what else I can do Now I have this Permanent reminder Your name’s all I have left of you Tell me what Do I do with this tattoo You left me with nothing You don’t care I’m suffering There’s so much I wish I could undo What about this Scar you left me Incidentally You can’t erase tattoos Ta-DA!!! Told ya it was cool. Linda (AKA "Bernie")

PS: All this inking-arm talk this week reminds me of this story: Johnny Depp had "Winona Forever" tattooed on his arm when he and Winona Rider <sp?> were dating... they broke up... and he had it altered to say "Wino Forever."

Thank you!!! I'm sorry I lost your "Go down easy" awesome hook in the process, though. I imagine it wasn't so funny for Johnny at the time... Should make anybody think twice about putting another person's symbol permanently on YOUR body though... y'think? (OK.... I'm starting to head into thread hijacking... TANGENT! sorry, Mike!) Linda
