Tomorrow my husband is having a CT scan of his lungs. There is something that showed up on a chest x-ray. Hopefully, it's just some scar tissue or a calcium deposit. But, it's made me nervous.

Will do Tricia.
Don't read too much into those findings. Usually they are nothing to be concerned about. My brother has had a spot on his lung for three years. They do a CT scan once a year now to watch it. I had myself all worked up after my last CT Scan figuring the anuerism in my abdomen was gonna kill me for sure. Well I met with the Cardiovascular guy last week and everything is A_OK. it needs watching but he does not think it will ever be a major problem. So I had myself in a tizzy for nothing.

Dear one, First your "IT" and now his concerns. Here's a prayer that his tests also mimick yours in that there is nothing serious found.
Blessings!

Hey Tricia, First off, I'm sorry to hear about your husband -- and that you have to hop on the "waiting for results" roller coaster. Second, I want to share my experience with you, in an effort to maybe allay some concerns as you proceed. I too, had a spot on my lungs (lower right pulmonary lobe, thank you very much) almost three years ago. And it was suspicious, b/c the medical condition I have is highly associated with certain cancers -- lung being one of them. SO, we did the cat scan. STILL looked suspicious. Now I was getting worried...so they take it up a notch and do a PET scan. This is a more sophisticated imaging technique for showing function as well as structure. Now they see a "pulmonary nodule with spiculation." This is not a good thing to find. The benign nodules as a rule are smooth-edged...so the spiculation (meaning sort of a serrated edge) loomed ominous.... So, we took it out...along with a nice chunk of the surrounding tissue. But, as you have probably surmised by my tone, everything went well. In fact the nodule was benign, and my thoracic surgeon used a VATS technique (Video-Assisted-Thoracoscopic Surgery)...which left me with just a couple of 1" or so scars. Post-op was a drag, but much better than the alternative! Hopefully, everything will be fine with hubby, too. And I'm sure you'll be advised appropriately as you move thru the process -- I just didn't want you to set yourself up for a big scare if the results are still inconclusive from the CT scan. So good luck, and I hope you have a radiologist who'll get right back to you.... Beth P.S. As an aside, I asked my doc if, while he was in there slicing and dicing, he would mind just moseying a bit further south and hacking off a discreet portion of my buttocks....alas, he told me he wasn't an ass man . A bunch of comedians, those doctors....

Thanks, everyone. I suppose we are at the age that things like this will crop up from time to time and it's just something we will have to endure. Hopefully, we'll get a good report. I sure hope so.
Beth, I hope they were faster than the radiologist who read my mammogram. Actually, they get read quickly-it's the physician who drags their feet with reporting the results.
The hospital has a disclaimer for outpatient radiology-they have 7 days to get it done because anyone inpatient gets priority. So, if you take that into consideration they are operating by standard procedure.
With me being a nurse, I know that there are many steps involved with taking the film/scan and having the results reported to the patient. Sometimes it's dictation where it gets hung up. Usually, the radiologist reads and dictates the report within 24 hours and most times that same day.

Thanks, guys. I really appreciate the prayers and support. Can't have too much of either at the moment. Like I said, I'm hoping it's just something they want to watch and nothing serious. Hope you guys have a great Easter. We're planning to lay low, rest and work in the yard. That's rest for me and very relaxing.

Tricia,
Don't get too worked up about this. I have the exact same scenario (went in for my 3rd CT Scan for nodules myself just this week). The majority of the time it's just a benign thing. They'll likely have to do follow up scans to see if it changes. Fortunately the scans are quick and painless. (Unlike the CT Scans when they put that iodine solution into you intraveneously which was pretty painful and horrible last time I had that done).
Hang in there and know that regardless of the results, you'll know what's going on and can take proper actions if needed now rather than later. Proactice is always better!

Ande, it was so nice getting to meet you, too. If you're ever in this part of the country again, you would be most welcome here.
Alan, you'll have to keep me posted on Helen's latest surgeries. Haven't heard anything from you in ages. Thanks, again!
