Dolly's releasing her new cd on her own label. Here's the story: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080322/ap_en_mu/people_dolly_partonIf she's successful, she'll be the first of the Country artists to have a hit with the Rap/Hip Hop and now Rock and Pop paradigm. It will be interesting to see how strong the stranglehold major labels and their parent corporations have over Country radio.
You've got to know your limitations. I don't know what your limitations are. I found out what mine were when I was twelve. I found out that there weren't too many limitations, if I did it my way. -Johnny Cash It's only music. -niteshift Mike Dunbar Music

Are there similarities to the Beatles "Apple" records way back when?

She's one of the most genuinely nice people you'll ever meet. I'm looking forward to following the success that will surely follow this new venture. You're right, Mike... this may be another "chink in the armor" or the big labels.
I noticed the article in the Dallas Morning news but failed to read the details. Thanks for bringing it up.

I will support her simply because she is shaking things up. I have to buy her CD now, and I never buy new stuff. I always buy things tried and true, meaning things I know I will listen to again and again. That is the way I have been since I was 12 years old, but I admire Dolly and want to see her do well.

Why does my screen look so different all of a sudden?
I love this line from DP: "Now the majors are what they used to think I was: history," she said.
I don't really see why this is such a surprise to folks. Toby Keith and Tracy Lawrence have started labels in the last year or two.

I don't think Toby had a choice, LOL. I don't think he was well liked by the powers to be, LOL.
But....Look at him now....

I am tempted to buy it, too, like Jack said. I just wish there was a way to communicate that was *why* I was doing it. I do think behavior like Dolly's should be encouraged. ('Sides, she's a good writer, and I think good writing should be supported.)
Joe
P.S. And the wide left screen is the result of those mposts (there are so many I assume it's spam) from "peachBottomWhatnot..." It's all one very long word, so the System won't break it up--and expands the box to accomodate it. Once the posts are driven off the "here's what's new" box by newer stuff, things should go back to normal. Hopefully, it won't take too long.
Of course, if people respond to ol' "peachbottomyadayada," it'll take longer...

A few years ago my publisher put a few of my songs on a Web Site. He E-mailed Dolly to go in and give a listen. Dolly posted that she was very impressed with my songs. No doubt she will be plenty sucessful with her Label.
Glad she liked my songs. That's one down and 999,999 to go. I suspect her album will be avaliable in the local stores.

I LOVE DOLLY! I went to Dolly Parton & Kenny Rogers concert here in Australia, quiet a few years ago now, and they where fantastic. The best I have seen Dolly is, as an Actress, she is a classic.
Congratulations Dolly!
I will have to look for her album.
