Spring is a wonderful time for bird photography. I carry my camera every day when I go out walking - you just never know what you will see. I was lucky enough to capture the moment when this male northern flicker was preening the feathers under his wing. I have never witnessed this before. He had the wing fully spread out, making for some striking color contrast between the red on his head and the yellow underwing. ![[Linked Image]](http://www.catbirdnotes.com/photos/forum/northern_flicker_preening.jpg) Clint

That's awesome color and clarity, Clint. Look at the shadow of his beak against the wing, too. What a great shot.
"Grits is one of those country-boy words that is both singular and plural-like deer, elk and sheep. I think the singular is appropriate when there's a modifier that makes it clear one is talking about something specific. Like, 'Grits are good for you, but these here grits is tasty.'"~~Joe Wrabek
