I'm holding a little JPF song contest, in a previous thread, the first five songwriters who posted would be entered. The winner gets a free demo. If this gets a good response, I might do it again in the future. Here are the contest songs in the order they were posted: Moker Jarret's Song http://soundclick.com/share?songid=6592517John Crandall's Song http://soundclick.com/share?songid=6584343Kevin Emmrich's Song http://soundclick.com/share?songid=6312081Vicki Flawith's song http://soundclick.com/share?songid=6552760David Kraut's song http://www.broadjam.com/player/playerhosting.asp?play_file=12663_371987 The rules are: listen to each song and vote for your favorite. To keep the contest fair, make sure you listen to each one and pick your favorite song, not your favorite person. You may, if you wish, read the lyrics as well, you can find them here: http://www.jpfolks.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/ubb/showflat/Number/621601/page/1#Post621601The contest lasts until June 8 at noon. You need to vote to see the results as they mount up. Have fun, good luck to all, and may the best song win!

Mike- thanks for organizing this, and for your time and effort on behalf of the entrants, and ultimately the winner of the demo...we, the writers who submitted, should not vote- right? Vicki- i'd sing my own too, if i sang like you...moker

Hey Mike... and contestants:
Great participation and some really nice songs. Congratulations all around. Can't wait to hear the final demo of the winning song. A real nice gesture, Mike... thanks for the opportunity.

I had to vote -- the suspense was killing me. I have listened to all the songs at least three times and every time I listen the 'competition' seems to get better. Good luck to all involved and a hearty thanks to Mike for the big "kick" of excitement.
I think that a high voting turnout will increase the chances that Mike will want to do this again in the future!

I cheated a little. My criteria for voting was which song did I think would benefit the most from this demo.

Hi There,
That's the good thing about Soundclick, you can form a pretty quick opinion of how high a particular writer is up that old ladder . one was close to the top one was half way down, the others didn't know where the ladder was.
That's a shame because there are so many great books on writing, songs around. and they will direct you to the ladder.
No offence meant just being honest,

35 votes so far -- not bad! I think 100 votes would be a smashing success.
Louis: Good point about having to grab your audience in the first 30 seconds. So easy to waste time building the song up and lose your listeners too early. I am all for songs that build and twist, but your 1st 30 seconds has got to be great and distinctive, too. When you think about most "great" songs, you can tell what song it is after the very first second!
Split Level: Is a step stool acceptable?

Mike, why not, the next time around, open it up to the top 25 songs and then you can choose the top 5 for the vote.

Oh cool! I'll listen shortly and vote. Fun idea, Mike! I'm with Samuel(Joe) though, on next time YOU pick the top 5 of 25 - saying this having not listened to anything yet - but, you know, then you have to listen to 25 songs instead of 5... hm... Very generous of you and I think it's one way cool contest. Linda

4 of 60.
It should be four out of sixty songs, Mike. And not just sixty songs, but sixty of the best songs, chosen by you.
Then you have to demo four of them each week.

Mark, I'm not going to judge sixty songs for free. Who do you think I am, Brian Austin Whitney? I have no interest in picking out the songs. That's why I made it first come first serve. My rules are unfair. No doubt about it. Anyone wants fair rules, start their own contest

There's one day left. Every vote counts! We may have to look at the paper ballots. Maybe it will be left up to the Supreme Court! Voting ends at noon tomorrow, I won't get back home until about 3 or 4pm tomorrow, so the suspense will be killing me!
Vote now!!!!!!!

Congratulations Vicki Flawith, the winner!
It was a tough competition, all the songs are very good, but the votes are tallied and Hummingbird flew away with the prize!
Vicki, give me a PM and we'll discuss direction for the demo. I'm looking forward to working on it.
Congratulations to all the songwriters who participated, good work all. Thanks to all those who voted. We'll definitely do this again before too long. I'm already thinking of some devious twists to the contest, "Mmwa ha ha ha!"

Hi Mike, Not to change the subject Mike, but I couldn't find the post about the Pineyfest Demos coming up. I forget the cut off date. Was going to bump it if I found it but couldn't. Could you bump it or let me know the cut off date. If I remember correctly it was $110.00 plus $50 extra if we used another vocalist like Heather, is that correct? Thank you. Best, Lynn P.S. Congratulations Vikki!!!!

Well, Congrats again to Vikki (don't know why I started calling her Vicki? Sorry Vikki) We've PM'ed. I'll be getting an arranged rough demo from her soon and will start work on the demo.
Hey Lynn, I've bumped the Pineyfest Demo Derby threads on both the General Message Forum and the Lyric 3 Forum. I'm figuring out more ways to do it "long distance," I'll be posting more info on that in the next few days.
Again, thanks all for participating.
All the Best, Mike

I voted too.. Congrats Vikki & thanks for doing this Mike it was very very cool. And went very smoothly. I know I don't have to remind anyone, about the Demo Derby Anyone who can and doesn't take advantage of that situation is completely out of there mind. It's like walking into a store with only enough money to buy a 13 inch TV and walking out with a 50 inch Widescreen Plasma TV No kiddin!

Thanks Mike. It means a lot to me, coming from you, sir.
The contest was fun, Vikki is "tweaking" the song just a bit before sending me the final version for the demo. Once I get that done, I'll run another contest, I'm already thinking of some fun variations.
