Good question, give me a moment to formulate a reply. Oops, can't use words like formulate in song writing - it doesn't flow. Songs are such a wonderful thing: poetry set to music, words that tell a story, make you laugh, make you cry, or want to dance. I learned that depression can help you write beautiful sad songs. Sometimes when the words are coming to me and it's turning out to be something better than ever I get on a writers high. I write songs that I know somebody out there somewhere can relate to. I also write because I want to be a player in the world of music. As was said earlier, it's a lottery chance at immortality even if I become a one-hit wonder.

Should have said why do you Re Write

The answer to try and get it right, also it's better than drinking, and over eating, plus it's nice when you get a song on the radio, or T.V. and then the money helps.

Yes unless you are prepared to re write and re write, there is no point in doing it.

In my case it's writing lyrics to music yes I get both at once and then I change it all till i get it right.

Some times that can take a few years sometimes much less.

I laugh when writers say I wrote that in half an hour, my answer is "Has any one recorded it."

Apart from a few top writers the answer will be no

I believe that good songs should be easy to write. If you have to force it, or the correct words just don't come, then it becomes hard to write. If it was hard to write, then how is it expected to be easy to sing along to?

Because in our expressions of creativity, we find that blessed release of love, pain, and all in between.......

Emotional explosions in a controlled format?

I started writing lyrics because I had been composing for several years and it just seemed the logical progression. As to why I started composing I really don't know. I've just always had a fascination with creating my own works.

I have tracks that no one except for me have ever heard but when I listen to them I feel a great sense of accomplishment. That song did not exist before I pulled it out of my head, now it does. I guess you could say that's why I write. The reason I continue to write is because I like money...and I hope to make some one day!

Good question,

I do it because it makes forget everything else
And as I use my energy in a creative manner
It relaxes me
It also challenges me, I want to know how creative I can put my thoughts in words that if someone put music to it you can actually have a song.

Now it's my turn:

Why did you ask this question at the first place?
I am curious to know what you were looking for by asking what you asked.

Hi Stevens 119

If a song is to be different, then it will be Hard Work

The first things we write down are cliche they must be, cant you see that?

What rubbish to say if it's hard to write it will be hard to sing.

What planet are you from

Lamorna

Outside of my 2 word answer, I guess that the reason why I am still writing is that I have devoted myself more to my creative persuits other then the typical BMI oriented version of what writing is.

It was much easier and more formidable throwing out a big riff and learning cover songs.
I almost feel dispirited sometimes that which is easier to do is often thought of as more astute and that effort need not apply.
But I knew going in that I was not out to do things the conventional way.
Not that Iam out to do much different other then 3 piece rock.
But I want something that embodies what inspires me, which could be anything.

I stated last spring that I was not going to be on the net for some time and not post as frequently.
I get too glued to it and this is the one site I have been glued to because the members can be so interesting and I like the reciprocation.
I also have very sensitive eyes.
I do not wear glasses and my vision is pretty good, but ultra sensitive to monitors, even though I have done what I can to adjust that in display settings.
Special lenses for reading can harm the eyes when used too much.

It is still something to get used to also using the internet as a vehicle for music.
The musicians that I know of play places and are not on the net nor want nothing to do with the net.
Outside of 1 band that sells ep's. But the band strictly advertises and does not post in forums.
I know there are people like me where I live, but I have always known bands that play places and have worked in public establishments.
Mainly post punk, although they do not like labels.
Musicians like that originally made me want to write.

I am probably going to be on an extended siesta from here for a few months.
But I sure like looking in and what the members are doing with their artistic endeavors.

Sometimes I write as a reflection of my feelings. Sometimes I just feel like writing.

I usually only write if I have something to say.

I write because the pen is mightier than the sword, and a hell of a lot easier to carry!

on the more serious side, I think that writing songs, poems, as well as prose is a more thoughtful and honest form of absolute communication. I communicate because as a social creature I have a basal need for acceptance. I can't really survive without the group. ... which BTW is the same reason for ALL monkey chatter!!!
