Thanks for dropping by in our board. Dennis already sing this song in one of our local songwriters afternoon.
Do you have Any tagalog lyrics open for nit and grit? Post it here. As my good freind top poster Stan Good told us that lyrics are similar to crude oil, the more you refine them the BIGGER the BANG.

TRy to write one, english is so hard to market in our local setting. Hope you hear the song Charing, or other novelties like boom tarat and some adaptation of KAkagat na in eat bulaga. Your avatar is a museum of musical instruments. I love the red acoustic lespaul cut (bass or 6 strings guitar not sure) and your 2 stratocaster.
Dennis tagalog song has a unique killer title dedicated to her mother.
Goodluck.

i don't intend to market in the Philippines, so I don't write tagalog. Those "songs" you mention suck big time.
Those are telecasters, and the red one is an epiphone dot

Sorry for the wrong guitar creator name, your museum avatar is blurred so I said I am not sure. Anyways goodluck for your dream, one piece of advice we are all entitled to an opinion but if you really want to be succesful in this field, learn to respect and appreciate other songwriters composition because the song I mention above is a real novelty hit where almost 80-90% of Filipinos can sing it. Instead of saying suck big time or the exagerated form of melodramatic (a loser critique). Pls give them enough reason in your point of view as a musician why you dont like the song. Who knows maybe these songs can break the US market including the dance steps while your song "cant get you out of my head" are building a lot of criticism from our countrymen worldwide.

That will do to get this board healthy and moving. YOu are right about the small copy of the popular song in the US but that makes it so popular here because the listeners are unaware of the similarity and the copied songs cannot claim copyright violation. This is a simple formula our local songwriters use to make a hit couple with timing and a little payola. I find melodramatic acceptable for my co writer dennis. Adding too to melodramatic only makes the dramatic redundant and the way I understand it is you hate it too much.
Goodluck... keep posting

No. Plagiriasm is wrong, and Sting, for example, can claim copyright violation. It's not a formula, it's cheating and stealing.

Easy bro dont be so hard on this. I can give you a simple analogy in life.
Hit song is an inherently iterative process. One does not simply take a musical note from the mystics and produce a song. We use old popular song to fashion better song, and then our better song to fashion more precise hit song, and so on. Each minor refinement is a step in the process, and all of the steps must be taken.

I can give you an analogy in life. You're selling fishballs in the market with a secret sauce everybody likes. Big hit. Then somebody steals your recipe. You lose sales. You become poor and homeless. You end up penisless.
Another analogy - somebody thinks "The Police had a great song in 1981, why don't I steal that?" That's stealing.

Your comparison is different. How come a secret sauce or formula can be stolen? You should keep it just like col sanders keep his KFC recipe. There was a thread few months back when someone posted about the story of this young singer songwriter who happen to meet his rock star studded idol in the bar. The singer approached his idol and confess that he copied all of his chord progression and some melody of his idol hit song. The rock star whisper to his followers ears with a tap on the back, "Its okey I also just copied the song you mentioned to the guy over there."

well, that's stealing. And that's wrong.
One of these days, when I'm drunk and have nothing to do, I'll contact the copyright owner of those songs and report the infringement by that guy who hosts that show, whatever his name is.

Hi Darius,
That would be a test case if the proper party decides to pursue it.
Thanks for your comment on my song. At least I got at a one-line comment from someone I don't know personally. We critique only the songs that are posted here so if you have a song, feel free to post the lyrics here.
Dennis :-)

Darius,
If you don't like something and want to critique it, then offer something of use, not simply an attack on everyone. It's clear Lynman has made every effort to bring things around to a more positive note, but you insist on being rude and you offer little of actual value. If your goal was to simply be a jerk, congrats, you succeeded. If your goal was to be a positive part of our overall community, you've got a ways to go.
Even if you're right, your message is lost in sarcasm and negativity. If you dislike the folks here so much, why bother to come here in the first place?
Lighten up. If you find a fault, offer useful and productive criticism, not the equivelant of name calling/attacks.
As for copyright infringement, it's never okay. In the US, it's 10,000 dollars per infringement plus damages. I don't know the law in the Phillipines, but US Copyright law is generally held as a credible precendence in all western societies so I'd be surprised in your law was much different. And of course, even if you COULD get away with infringement, why would you want to? Morally it's wrong regardless of the law.
Derivative works also require permission and licensing.

Brian,
I am also a Filipino songwriter and a member of the PhilMusic board as well as a long-time member of Katha (Organization of Filipino Composers).
I was led here eventually by a series of exchanges at PhilMusic. I shall offer my commentaries later, as I noticed that Darius have removed most of his posts.
At any rate, I should have signed up sooner.

Welcome to the JPF!!!! We use our true name here and your location so the folks can know you better. Also try to browse the threads and join in the lyric critiquing board and comment there. If you have songs that you want for critique just make a seperate thread on this board or go to lyric board and post us with some links of the song so we can listen to it.
Any question feel free to PM me or the rest of the folks.

Matanglawin is as true a name as my real name, Lynman.
As for my songs being online, they have been for longer than yours have, and I have them on my signature.
As for critiquing, that's not my primary reason for being here, as I have mentioned to Brian. I'm here to clarify a few misconceptions that you have regarding music that will and can get you into trouble.
Like, how you word a thread, or how you hijack ideas.

Ok so you are matanglawin. You dont like Tony?
Again welcome. If you want to clarify my misconceptions about inviting our Filipino songwriter to write song and post it online you can tell it all here.
So if you come here just to piss me off and humiliate me and the rest of Filipino songwriters in this forum and accusing me of hijacking your ideas this is not the place. You can file your case to our local intellectual property office and ill be glad to answer all you accussations.
JPF is a very healthy musician forum in the planet. We do not entertain ranters and attackers hiding in alterego.
So watch your postings.

As I told Brian, I'm not here to cause any trouble, just to clarify a few things with regards to you.
May I warn you to watch your posts?
I'm not here to attack or humiliate you or anyone, just to provide balance.
As for ranting, I hardly do such. If I may point you to your own rants at Philmusic, most of which you have conveniently hijacked from mine own thoughts.
And pardon, I don't "hide." It's been clear that instead of using another handle, I have used the one I have been using for years.

As I told you again matanglawin you can write your case to our local intellectual property office. This is not the appropriate venue for that.
If you are trying to be pushy about this you are given me a choice to delete all your post here in Philippine board.

No need, Lynman. I can very much handle your hijacking.
I've read the exchanges on the other thread. You have this propensity to be overbearing and overzealous that you tend to step your bounds.
Insofar as I am "behaving," you can't delete my posts, am I right, Brian?
Please do exercise you "power" properly.

My songs have been up for critiques, btw. So far, I've had both good feedbacks and negative critiques, but I welcome the positive and the negative.
I heard your songs before, did I not, and I offered the same critiques; You need improvement, especially since you tend to use the same progression and same melodic pattern over and over.
That's as objective a critique I can give.
What did you do after?
Well, you simply formed the "group" behind my back.
Now your giving advise to songwriters, those of which I myself have given you before. Now you write about things I have told you.
No, Lynman. This is not trying to piss you off. This is merely telling the truth.
You can choose to delete this, but I assure you that by doing so you'll only be covering up what you have done so far, and will not help your "promotion."

Guys.. if you have a private argument, please resolve it off line. It serves no purpose here. It's clear this dispute goes back long before any activity on this message board.
Let's keep it friendly and productive going forward okay? Feel free to resolve your dispute directly between yourselves.
Thanks,
Brian

It's been a while that I haven't been posting here at JPF. Maybe it's time for me to resume sharing some of my songs. Here is the link to one of my songs included in the album Access 2 Love 2008 arranged beautifully by Mandi Ferrer. Lynman helped me with in coming up with a sing-along type of video. It's in Filipino. The theme is about a guy who falls in love with a girl who has been one of his best friends through the years but is in a quandary as to how he should confess his love for her. My youngest brother Rex is the artist who provided both the lead and background vocals: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fj1t2SCnpBsYou can listen to the other songs included in the album written by other songwriters and interpreted by other artists by using the links provided in the information box to the right of the screen. Enjoy! Dennis
