Can't Have Kate And Edith Too
Verse It was my last year in high school When I met my Kate Truth of the matter It was a blind date
That blind date we had It turned into more Next thing I knew- I was Carryin' Kate through the door
Things seemed to prosper We were on top Bought us a house A doughnut- shop
Things just got better As our business grew Kneaded some help So I hired Edith Magooo
Chorus "Edith might be the icing And I might be the cake But you can't have- that icing And your cake too!"
"You've been pretty lucky And made lots of dough You kneaded your help NOW THAT HELP MUST GO!"
Verse The pasteries were sweet Edith was too Things soon got sticky With Edith Magooo
I could see up ahead Things mught not be so great My gut- it did tell me I might lose my kate
It wasn't too long I found I was right Kate she found out We had a big fight
Kate she said"now see here Richard I heard through the grapevine About you.................. And MISS MA-GOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Chorus "Edith might be the icing And I might be the cake But you can't have that icing And your cake too!"
"You've been pretty lucky And made lots of dough You kneaded your help NOW THAT HELP MUST GO!'
Verse She said"either she goes Or I do- cause... You can't have your Kate And...Edith tooooo!"
"So read my lips Richard This can't go on If this keeps up I'll soon be gone."
Then I said to Kate "I hope it's not too late I realize now... I made a mistake."
"The icing was nice But I paid the price My tail I did bake Since I burnt my Kate"
BRIDGE "Just give me a chance And I promise you I'll take care of business And my SWEET TOOTH TOO!"
And from now on It's just me and you I might get some cake And eat it too
I learned my lesson I agree with you I can't have my Kate And Edith toooo...!
Coda No- I can't have my cake And- Eat- It- Tooooooooo!

Caroline: Hee Haw- I got a couple like this one. I do get a lot of fun comments from this one. One of my part-time jobs- I work with Kate. This was long after I wrote this song. She was thrilled someone wrote a song with her name- she is a very talented person - she has a major in music and I believe she just recently got a try out with the Omaha Music Symphony Orchestra. I guess she must be a great singer- I plan to go listen to her perform. I have a lot of songs- just don't know where to start. I think my dads music career has a lot to do with my songs- he did a lot of Hank Williams and many others- he was very popular back in the 40's and 50's on the radio. When records took over(presto chanjo) my dad was an instant home builder and carpenter. I actually wrote a song "Write That Wrong-Write That Song" that is copyright and hope to record it some day. Thanks for your input;likewise glyn-she is a great person.

Hey Lamora- sorry I'm late in getting back- of course your right I guess I've read too many William Faulk books- some times I have a transition problem writing my songs and reading. Thanks.

les_paul_gurl: Thank you- you are kind. This is a rewrite. My new music is somewhat better- but as you, know my choruses keep my songs from reaching their expectations.Yet I'm focus to have fun and to be content with progress no matter how small the steps. I do feel good when I see my lyrics make a lot of people also having fun with the stories; really that's what they are- songs we can relate to- That's my interpretation and my aim. Thank you and I know you love music and are a seasoned professional- your input is appreciated. I see your name quite a while.
