My sister, Lisa, is having some heart issues. She is 46. Way too young for any of that type thing. Please include her in your prayers if you think about it. I would really appreciate it.

My Father started to have heart issues at 43 in 1973. He had one of the first triple bypass operations in the country.He and we always thought he was going to die every year. Actually would go through this whole "I don't think I'll be around much longer.
When he died at 66 in 1998, we almost put "I told you I was sick" on his tombstone.
The point is that regardless of what anyone tells you, you are in the best country in the world for health care. Most people come through things fine. I am sure your sister will as well. Try not to get too worried. Just take it as it comes and have a great attitude. It is especially important for your sister to get strength from you.

Good luck and remember a lot of people are pulling for you.

It hits so hard when it's your loved ones. Good she has you, so no matter what happens, she is loved.

Sorry to hear about your sister, it's a tough road, but med. is way more advanced, so it may be something that's treatable. Praying for you and your family.

My aunt is getting out of the hospital this morning, she had a "bout" of tachicardia and her bp bottomed out, they have no idea, but thsi happens to her every 3-6 years. They have to stop her heart and restart, to get her hr regulated. She's doing well, your sister will too.

I don't know what type of heart trouble you are talking about, but I do know, I've seen many things in my own family that are heart related, yself included, and I doknow there is a lot that can be done to help, in most cases.

Unfortunately, I understand this situation all too well. I give thanks for every single day that I have had, since I had major heart issues many years ago. It's amazing what they can do...you being a nurse know that, but of course.....you also know the down side. That's why you're worried. But Tricia....I am living testimony to the advancement of medical science, so try so hard not to worry and just be there for her just like you are. That will mean so much to her...if you don't let her see the worry on your face. She needs her family's support so much now because losing your health is such a psychologically difficult thing to deal with. That in itself, feels like the end of something. The sadness over the loss of your good health can take a toll all by itself, so just be there for her....make her laugh.....she can do the tears all on her own.
She is in my prayers now and will stay there....please let us know how she is doing along the way.

My dad was told his heart problems were so severe he had to quit working. He was 52.

He did. Retired on disability.
After spending the next 28 years traveling all over the country in a Motor home he had a heart attack at home when he was 80.
WE should all be so sick.

I pray your sister will get better soon.

Our Dad had heart trouble too, Mark. I think that's what has me worried. She's having an echocardiagram done on the 24th.

Caroline, soon as she has the echo, we'll know more about treatment options and what the damage is. Her MD has called in more Lasix to "keep her going" till next week. That's about all I know.

I didn't realize you are a nurse. I admire nurses. I wanted to go back to school to be a L/D or Surgical nurse but illness prevented it. I only worked as a MA (on the job training)

More women are having more heart disease, Wy. Looks like we've caught up to ya'll.

All kidding aside, women have more atypical chest pain when they have symptoms. We have things like jaw pain and neck pain instead of classic angina. If you are a woman, are overweight and lead an unhealthy lifestyle and you continually have these symptoms, please let your MD know immediately.

MA's work hard too, Kim. That's something to be proud of! Thanks, again.

My apologies -- I've been a more than a bit distracted with some stuff going on around here...so I'm just seeing this now. And gosh, so many worries around here!! Please know my thoughts are with you and your whole family. As I was recently reminded, "Waiting Is The Hardest Part". (Worst case for me, maybe I'll get a hook out of it!)

Seriously, I do hope you get encouraging news soon. The emotional strain must be very difficult for all of you -- and the stress of that surely can't be helping her heart. BUT I'm sure that with your "insider" situation, she's getting the best of care.

Finally, I would like to echo Caroline's comments about knowing a fair amount of folk who have had successfully treated heart issues. One of my college buddies is in fact one of the country's leading cardiologists...and when we were in the PICU with Samantha a few years back, he was handling the case right next to us. It was an infant, who had been born with only half a heart. He actually was able to construct and implant the other half...and from what I understood upon our departure, the little munchkin was doing great.

SOOO, for the time being, "Tricious" -- keep the faith!!
