Hello JP folks, Not been around much lately but wanted to share my latest efforts in trying to re-start my writing. Comments appreciated. Good emotive voice. Just some thoughts on the format:
The lyric's a little bland.
Time Goes On And On © 2009 by Stephen Bills
Been so long girl since you walked away. (Give 'walked' the enunciation it needs. You're rushing it.)
Should have known then, that you'd never stay (Rushing 'never stay')
and time goes on and on yea... time keeps rollin on. (Cut 'and.' This is your chorus refrain. That sets a pattern other verses should follow, with an A, A, B, A rhyme-scheme.)
But I feel Like I'm going to be okay. (Cut 'But')
Another Friday Night.

(The 2 preceding stanzas break the 4-line pattern, going for 3 lines instead, with a rhyme scheme of 'Night, alright,' and 'me,' A, A, B, and 'pair, air,' and 'free' picking up the 'me' rhyme.)

but you know girl I'm still doin' ok

(The pattern set in V1 dictates that the chorus refrain should be the 3rd line in a 4-line verse here. And that a 4th line should rhyme lines 1 and 2 of whatever it is.)

Glad to see you posting here! I go to your site and listen from time to time because I like your vocals, guitar playing, production and songwriting. This one is no exception. I like it. I like the Southern Rock feel to it! Nice work. I enjoyed the listen.

Nice! I'm a big fan of Southern Rock. You have the perfect voice for it. Only problem is I couldn't listen to all of it. The Soundclick player stopped right at the one minutes mark and would not start again. I've been having trouble with the Soundclcik site all day. This is the first opportunity I've had to sit and listen to other folks in quite a while and now I can't get the danged Soundclcik site to work more than half the time. Anyway, I really liked what I was able to hear. I'll try again later. Have a great 2010.

Great vibe to this, Stephen - the guitar and your vocal work nicely together to give it emotion. Yeah, feels like southern rock although there was once or twice I thought John Mellencamp was singing  Scott

What a nice surprise, makes me think of Bob Segar. Perhaps punch the vocals a bit more...TIME keeps MOving ON! But otherwise, really nice sound, I enjoyed it:)

So good to see you posting and writing again Steve! I still never forgot your "She's The One" song. Honest! I remember you had two versions and I think I liked your original version even though it was alittle "less perfect" if you will, but it was GREAT! I'm gonna' head over to your site and see if it's still there to listen to. I love your voice. I think in this one, you should really do up the Chorus alittle stronger/differently atleast instrumentally to set it apart from your verses. Good to have you back in town. Best, Lynn

Just went to listen to my favorite of yours but I really think you should also post on your soundclick the original of "She's The One" just so people can hear that version as well. I honestly think your original version is superior to this one although this one is very good, but your first one just had that original organic sound. What can I say I never got that song out of my mind!!

Classic voice, guitar and arrangement. Real Bob Seeger feel, especially on the chorus. I would buy the cd just for that, of course that shows how old I am, I still buy cd's.

Good to hear from you. Feels good to know that "She's the One" struck A chord with you and I appreciate your support. I thought I had a copy of that original version backed up on a thumb drive but I think I lost it when my computer crashed a year or so ago. Hard lessons learned...I back up everything immediatly now.

Hi Stephen,
Great listen. Your voice has the perfect tone for the lyric -- sort of Neil Young meets Bob Seger.
I think Gary had some interesting points for consideration...and I totally agree with him on the "satin smile" line. STELLAR.
Why is it though, that now I somehow feel the urge to go light up a "doobie" (remember THOSE?)???
