Been reading about the Sand Creek Massacre and Chief Black Kettle. Started noodling on the guitar and came up with a new song. Never wrote this type of music before, so it's new to me. Let me know what you think. I'll do a final tweak in the weeks ahead. http://soundclick.com/share?songid=9211444

Why aren't you famous and playing to sold out arenas. Just can't figure out this music business. Love the story and your playing is perfect for this. I always love your voice. No critique needed. You always amaze me.

I don't say this often. Matter of fact I don't think I've ever said this on JPF before. Why are you not touring? Why are you not on the radio? Is this a trick? Are you really someone famous who is here incognito? just noodling huh? Are you playing all the instruments on this and doing the backup vocals too? Ahhhh this explains a lot. I salute you sir. And I am envious. Our family band -- Motel 5 1/2 -- performs this old traditional bluegrass tune. Forrest Miller on banjo, Aida Miller on rhythm guitar, Sarah Miller (Mom) on the upright bass, and Kevin Miller picking guitar and singing vocals.

Thanks so much Bill. I'm just a family man. Not going to tour any time soon. It's not a trick, matter of fact if you look at my other songs, some of them suck pretty bad. I am working on a cd project right now, and trying hard, recording in my bedroom. I used to write for a magazine, but songwriting is my true passion. Maybe someone will play a song or two on the radio?
My boy, Forrest was playing banjo with me when I started thinking of this song. It started out to be about a lost pilgrim, but then I started researching the Sand Creek Massacre and got totally into it. It took two weeks to finish the song, but only 3 hours of writing time. The rest was research.
I played all the instruments. You can hear my sloppy guitar licks, and incomplete mandolin break. Oh well. At least I got it down on disc before I forgot how it goes. I like the song very much, and it surprises me that I wrote it.
Thanks for making me blush. Made my day!

Wendy... my son plays the banjo with me. He's just a beginner, but his sounds make me think of things. He also helped me get started with Midnight Boy that way, just noodling with me. Glad you liked!

Thanks Scott. I was thinking of you in the back of my head, when I wrote it. I know you appreciate this kind of stuff, and you've written a lot of lyrics that I enjoy. Thanks for listening. A long time ago you told me that my mando could sure use a bass, and you were right. I'm having more fun than ever. Plus i found out an upright bass is pretty easy to play.
Hi Tammy. Yep, I have the curse, just like you say. I wake up in the middle of the night with a song sometimes. It'll be my demise. I bet you have the same disorder. I'm glad we can relate. Now... instead of wasting time listening to my jibberish, go buy yourself a nice guitar so we can hear you play and sing those sweet songs you write! ^_^

Well you got me to pull out my old SM 57. I can't make it sound like you do.
Anyway, you know we always talk guitars and stuff. But I just realized that your best instrument might be your voice. You sing good man. And those harmonies are on it. I can see why you play in a band you bring some talent to the table.
My favorite part is the lead.

an interesting thing just happened..... i was downloading this.... and the chorus happened to be playing and the download was playing ... a delayed 'great spirit... etc...
the timing wasn't perfect .... but I could see how a second layer could really work in the last section....... it was sounding very cool............

Tom, I think you need to go get your hearing checked. I'm worried about you, man. Anyhow, thanks for taking a listen. I'm working thinking up a train song next. Never wrote a train song, so I'm in the thinking stage right now. By the way my guitar mic is a pg57, which is a whole different cat. Maybe you should make a little portable foam booth or something? I'm wanting to hear you play your new guitar.

Amen Brother CalvinThis is a great song. Sounds like a 100 yr old classic, that's been dust off and rerecorded. Writing and performing doesn't get any better. "Big Glass Pig" also a stunner.

Kevin, You've got a real sense of words and rhythm in your writing. This is fine, fine lyric full of history that got buried with the bodies of the braves, the women and children. You've resurrected the spirit of it in song. The sins of the past need to be remembered. Especially in the times we live in.
Musically, what can I say? You write, sing and play with the ease of a troubadour who's been doing it for years. Keep the songs coming.

Great modal, bluegrass sound -- what I like about your stuff is that you keep it natural sounding and real. This is a hot, hot bluegrass song. As good as anything I've heard this genre and I have heard a lot.
