I think maybe my all time favorite line is

"the beer I had for breakfast wasn't bad so I had one more dessert." from Sunday Morning Coming Down by Kristofferson

I also like this one maybe cause I'm from Alabama originally

"I'm in the heart of Dixie, Dixie's in the heart of me." from "My Home's In Alabama" by Alabama. Heart of Dixie is the state of Alabama's nickname or motto or something.

And there's a line in "I'm not ready yet" by George Jones that I like it because of the way he sings it: "Aw honey I know you ain't ever gonna love me."

And one more from another George Jones song "The Grand Tour:"
"As you leave you'll see the nursery, Lord, she left me without mercy."]

"It's a cold and it's a broken 'Hallelujah'"
Leonard freakin' Cohen. Jeezus, that's a great song.

I have another one, that's not LC, but Dolly. What I love about this one is the statement, followed by the hesitation. It's just heartbreaking:

"He will be waiting for me/He will be, won't he?"
-Dolly Parton, "Will He Be Waiting for Me?"

From The EAGLES "Life In The Fast Lane": "EVERYTHING..ALL THE TIME"...

Then, there's a Last Verse-Line in Tim McGraw's "Just to See You Smile" (Penned by Mark Lester/Tony Martin) that is SO Derned SIMPLE yet SO Absolutely POWERFUL it Mists-Me-Up every time I hear it:

"& yesterday I knew just what you wanted/
When you came walkin' up to me with him/
So I told you I was happy for you/
& GIVEN THE CHANCE I'D LIE AGAIN"...

Got onea My Own I've stayed proud-of, for over a Decade now...
Song's "Seal My Lips With Duct Tape"...(At CDBaby.com/TampaStan) & it opens with "Honey You Just Said The Dumbest Thing..I Ever Heard All Night"...

& I KNOW from that line ON, Evabody's Listening Intently...heh-heh!

Best Wishes & Big Hugs,
Stan

Leonard Cohen's Halleluja is I believe the most covered song ever.

Not only great lines, but awesome emotion in it.

Surprisingly the most covered song of all time (released recordings) is "Eleanor Rigby" according to the Guiness book of records. Over 131 Artists have recorded and released this song.

"Yesterday" is the most covered song by artists who performed the song but may not necessarily have released it as a record.

Just though of the BayCity Rollers, in your backyard...what happened to them, they were big in the 70s. they came to Canada a few times. Saturday Night...the melody stuck in my head but forget the words except Saturday Night being repeated over and over again.

Wow, I'd never have pegged it as Eleanor Rigby. There are a couple of others on the top 10 I would've put in front, like Imagine, Satisfaction (Stones) and Yesterday. I guess you never know!!

Think STS had yet-ANOTHER-Classic in that tune:

"Watch it now..he get you!"

Jimi Hendrix had that Jewel-of-The-'60's Line "'Scuze Me..While I Kiss The Sky"...Janice sorty Nailed-It with KK's "Freedom's just another word for..Nothin' Left to Lose"...

& The Byrds borrowed their Gem from Ecclesiastes: "To every thing..Turn-turn-turn..there is a Season."

Mac Davis' "In The Ghetto" has 4 of the most powerful words strung-together..ever: "And his mama cried".

To end on a happier note, my Co-writer Susan Shoshana-Braun was looking for a "Voice" in the manual that came with the Korg Karma Synth/Workstation we'd purchased..& quipped "Where The Hell is Heaven?"...which is to this day, still a pretty good Song.

I kinda like this one

"Then I looked into a mother's eyes knowing good sons were lying dieing
In a far off place of war with sad women and old children crying"
From
Beyond Our Gate
Bill Robinson

But there are dozens from other songs I have heard over the years.

I allus got a kick outta that "Stage Direction" Lou Reed added in "Walk on The Wild Side": "And the colored girls sing"...(Followed by "Doot..ta Doot..ta Doot.." etc.

That was a Genius Bit-of-Fun...(Tho not TOO-PC today..heh!)
