Are humans replaceable? If Hatsune Miku is any indication, then the answer to that question would be a definite yes. She has long blonde hair stringed in ponytails on both sides of her head that would make Pippy Longstocking look like an amateur. She’s wearing a school girl outfit tailored in rock star fashion, has large eyes that when turned your way, makes you think nothing in the world exists except you and her, and a high pitched singing voice. One would think she’d been truly manufactured to have the full package ready to deliver like a cake ready to be devoured. There’s one slight problem. Hatsune Miku isn’t human. Actually, she’s not even real. She’s nothing more than a few beams of light stringed together in true holographic fashion to be nothing more than an expensive light show disguised as a budding popstar. Take a look and give your thoughts on this take on replacing the human musical performer:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RjkUTMiUwTY

Do you think something like this could ever take off in America or do you think this sort of thing would only appeal to people who would fit the "tech-geek" stereotype?

Oh and get this. Not only is the performer not real, neither are her vocals. Want to know how it was done? Have you heard of a program called Vocaloid? Check it out:

Perhaps for those of us who can't sing, we can make our own popstars! lol

Aw Greg, it's really not that impressive. I could tell she was lip-syncing in a couple of spots!

Darn those popstars! When are they ever gonna learn not to lip-sync on stage? lol

She doesn't have any of those troublesome diva traits. No rehab, not friends with Lindsay Lohan or Paris Hilton, maybe too boring?

Greg, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume this is sarcasm.

3 Iggy's! Oh My! So, he (assuming he's human!) was allowed to stay in the room by the machine that didn't actually replace him, but made more of him! Iggy was cloned! How cool is that?!

Now, "replacing" him would not be cool. But if there are tools to have fun with, using us humans, then so be it. Beats using just human things and not recording anything, like cave men musicians just using their hands and beating on their friend's heads.

As long as machines don't change the arrangement too much, they can come in once in while I guess. They don't eat much, except for electricity. If they stay away from the pizza, they're cool.

But that machine performance you showed would more likely only turn on other machines to sweat and scream. Not me. Not the right king of machine.

Greg. Yes they are. Anime has been around for years and has quite a following in some countries - including the USA. And the business model is ideal for the investor who is willing to try it as in this case. One can keep the star from growing old, the star isn't subjected to life's pitfalls, and they can avoid interviews with the possible negative side-effects. Will the majority go that way? I don't think I'll happen in my lifetime. But given long enough, it could. Humans of course would still be needed for the songs and to operate the vocal and musical programs. So hit songs shall always be a necessity - and only humans write those.

G'Mornin' Brother Greg!

Wow, first Milli Vanilli, & Now This..heh-heh!

Waal..last weekend's Top-Grossing Movie was "RIO"...so SURE, the public's always ready-to-buy Animation IF it's well-done AND very-Entertaining.

I didn't find HM to be TOO-depressing, tho IMHO she's a bit of an animated Barby Doll/The Animators seemed to have Detailed more on her Legs than her Face..JMO. Body-Type seems lifted from Paris Hilton/Voice has that Kid-Quality that usually requires a 40-50-yr-old Character-Voice Actor (& yeah, that Vocaloid Plug-In sure helps a bit too, no-doubt.)

She's got a lot of OTHER Vids available there...tho I just didn't feel Inspired to look-further. (Pre-Teenies, though, yeah, might as well watch HM as to go play another Video Game.)

& when they add Pyrotechnics, it's frankly Lots-Safer than The Real Thing/Parents can breathe a Sigh of Relief...

&.in Real Life, ya got Lady GaGa imitating Cartoons already, no?

Thanks for Sharing, Amigo! Best Wishes & a Big Guy-Hug,
Stan

It's when they replace the audience that we have a problem.

You've got to know your limitations. I don't know what your limitations are. I found out what mine were when I was twelve. I found out that there weren't too many limitations, if I did it my way. -Johnny Cash

It's only music.

I'm afraid to see the Gorillaz because they might not really be cartoons.

But I still have a crush on Betty...even if she does look exactly like Veronica, only with different hair.

I'm surprised a little bit to see that Yamaha is developing this line of software. They have a long way to go with their existing line of vocal harmonizers provided with most of their upscale keyboards. Hmmm... I wonder if they can replicate George Strait's voice... LOL?

For some reason, I could not get any of the songs on either site to play... so, all I've heard is the Euro-looking Japanese Clone girl... and was not impressed. Did anybody discover the cost of this download or how much disk space it occupies?

Thanks for sharing, Greg.

Best,

Dave

First time I heard a vocaloid singer (a couple of years ago) I was astonished at how good she sounded in the particular song she was singing. grin Others felt the same, if we hadn't been told it wasn't a human voice, none of us would have known. 'She' simply sounded like a singer with a bit of a vocal quirk. grin

The scary part of that video was the huge audience cheering and applauding a hologram. tongue laugh
