There is only one game in town. And you had better figure out the *uckin* rules or you may just get run over. And there may be no one to help you pick up the pieces. I don't make the rules. I just try to stay ahead of them. And I have made plenty of mistakes in my life. Rules, you know.

I just got home from the Gibson Rally. Pretty good turnout. Not as much as I expected tho. It was quite peaceful, no screaming, no whining, and no one got arrested.
Some pretty good music, too.

Big Jim
A while back there was a test going around that measured you political leaning. I took it a couple time just to be sure. I came in centrist every time. I think that's a good place to be.

Of course they were civil Bill. What did you expect?

Vice President Biden is out there claiming that the "occupation" protesters are the same as "Tea Party" protesters. Only difference is that no one in the "Tea Party" has ever been arrested, nor tasered, nor tear gassed by the police. They also pick up the trash after themselves. "Tea Party" people don't defecate on police cars like these nuts do.

How many town hall meetings have these "occupation" protesters been to? The "Tea Party" began from these organized meetings and not the party atmosphere of a 60's like protest. Ask Arlen Specter (Republican). He was summarily ran out of office by guess who? The "Tea Party".

He didn't have to consider their ideas, Ben - as you said, he had a super majority. It was on them to negotiate from a minority position but they refused. It's too bad - the health bill could have been better if they had behaved differently. The democrats probably would have cleaned up the bill in exchange for some bipartisan support. Maybe not though - I'm learning not to project how I would behave onto politicians. smile

Of course, the democrats never miss a chance to shoot themselves in the foot and they did it with that health care bill. I had hoped they would have behaved responsibly but they were incapable of it. They produced a bill with some good ideas and a lot of crap. And they paid for it in the 2010 elections.

He only wants to make it a campaign issue and not a real solid plan to put people back to work. He could save his job right now if he would really negotiate with the other side, but his base and socialist ideology will never allow it.

Looks to me like President Obama is taking heat from the left for moving too far to the center. He was willing to go along with a high ratio of spending cuts to revenue increase. The Republicans were the ones who shot themselves in the foot this time - which is rare for them. They could have gotten $7 spending cuts for every $1 in revenue increase. And they turned it down! Any other Republican congress in history would have called that a huge victory. Instead these guys insist on NO taxes - even though over 70% of the people disagree with them. smile

So now, finally, the President is on the offensive. But it may be too late.

I do have to disagree with you that he could save his job if he compromised. He tried it and learned you can't compromise with a group whose main goal is to get you out of office.

It's going to be an interesting election alright. It's not looking good for him but I wouldn't count him out yet. If he was running unopposed he would probably lose. But he'll be running against a Republican so he has a shot smile

I think Romney is the only one who can beat him but Romney might not get past the primaries.

Right now, I won't make a prediction. There is a lot of anger at President Obama - but there is even more against the Republican Congress. A lot will depend on whether we go into a double-dip recession or not.

I would be curious to know who you are learning towards in the Republican group. Huntsman is the only one who holds any appeal at all to me.

We'll probably start finding out more about him. I don't think he was getting much time in the debates (though I missed the most recent one) but that will likely change now that he is polling better.

Well....as usual...I got here late. I was on other forums, making the same case, but I was getting swarmed by all the Canadian and European opinions as to how it is in America....I guess, being from an outside country, that qualifies your opinions, concerning America, on a more insightful and liberated view point!
Oh well....I guessI'm still licking my wounds.

It definitely seems to be about who has the group with special interests other then right or wrong. Companies that put much tax money and made many happy like Gibson, the goverment, and the people hang in the balance. Not witch hunts on Wall Street.
I can not get a loan for a dream home. So I don't say that lightly.

About Herman Cain:

I am both liberal and conservative yet torn between the two.
But I like candidates that are real and Herman Cain sounds the most real of the candidates. Those that reflect traditional liberals or conservatives seem to get hammered the most.

But I know another reason why the lib media is beating up on Cain.
That would make a Cain vs. Obama campaign very interesting indeed.

Cognac, that may be because America is always in the news, and us Canadians especially are very well informed about events south of the border. I venture to guess probably better informed than many Americans. I expect much the same can be said of Europeans.

Add to this the fact that we can be more objective as outsiders, and are likely more judgemental given our constitutional foundations rest of "peace, order and good government" vs "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness", and you have a recipe for the kind of swarming you mention.

Just don't take it personally...it is all issue driven smile

Oh and those who can, yes you citizens of the great state of Massachusetts, please vote Elizabeth Warren into the senate in 2012.

An article on a bill to protect musicians who own instruments with wood that might have been banned by the Lacey Act.
