Sunday Supper
2012 Marvin Adcock

I hear the sound of laughter as I open that front door
From family gathered round that big oak table once more
It's a Sunday thing - that's everything

Daddy says I'm hungry everybody find your place
Just like every Sunday we begin by saying grace
Heads bowed down - hands joined round

Sunday supper with the family
Ain't no better way to tell a week - goodbye
Sittin' round a table catchin' up
With the people that you love - good time
What this world needs is a lot more family Sunday suppers

Mama says her chemo's down to just one more treatment left
Before she starts another round of all them pesky tests
Then daddy jokes - that's how he copes

Brother is relieved he wasn't laid off work last week
Sister and her husband say they're finally gonna be
A mom and dad - everybody's glad

Sunday supper with the family
Ain't no better way to tell a week goodbye
Sittin' round a table catchin' up
With the people that you love - good time
What this world needs is a lot more family - Sunday suppers

Religion, politicians and something from the kitchen
Gets discussed, cussed and carved
Every Sunday - I see how lucky we are

Sunday supper with the family
Ain't no better way to tell a week goodbye
Sittin' round a table catchin' up
With the people that you love - good time
What this world needs is a lot more family - Sunday suppers

I hear the sound of laughter as I open that front door

Hello Marvin!!

What a beautiful song, to write about a simple ritual and make it so meaningful!!

I love how you go into the high register, it just grabs the listener and this is so emotionally right on the money with the melody and vocal...just amazing.

Your songs are such a treat!!

Oh man! Marvin this is a beautiful song all the way around! Nothing more I can say except for, "If there were more songs like this the world might be a better place". Very touching.

MARVIN--

SO MANY OF TODAYS SONGS ARE NOT DOWN TO EARTH--THIS ONE HAS A GREAT FEEL, WITH A LOT OF TRUTH ABOUT REAL LIFE!

I LISTENED TO A LOT OF YOUR OTHER SONGS, BEFORE RESPONDING--YOU ARE HEAD-WISE AND VERY TALENTED--IF COUNTRY HAD NOT STRAYED SO FAR FROM HER ROOTS, YOU WOULD BE AT THE TOP MY FRIEND!

I'M A FAN--

What a beautiful song Marvin. You sing it as if you feel the emotion. Great music and lyrics as well. I have one suggestion, which is just opinion only; on the line in the late verse when you sing: "that's how he copes," I would like to hear you "not go up" on the word "copes." I think it would give the line a better contrast with "daddy jokes" by keeping that line's ending more serious with more of a "pensive" feeling. I could be wrong on that, but it may be worth experimenting with. Super job! Very nice.

Thanks everyone for listening and for the comments. We are going to demo it later this week or next.

Eddie....I have talked with the vocalist and I am going to have him sing both versions on the bridge to see which fits best. Thanks for your suggestion.

Sounded wonderful!!! Great job by all. Great production!

Nothing much to add as I like it all personally, Love the chorus and commercially I think the chorus Is GREAT!!!

Being the nut that I am the only thing that would have drove me crazy if I was writing or co-writing, would be....

The concept is so great so the title seems 100% right 100% I'm just not crazy about how the word supper sings.... and it's "suppers" as well. BUT this is geared to Country and many things slide by there in many ways. So probably there would be little to no focus on that...

Tough one, for me one tiny part at the end of that chorus line smile just went for some water and kept thinking about it. The thought came to mind of how in some way it could have ended on the word "Sunday" instead? That word just sings out nicer..

Listen it's to late to mess around with silly stuff like that and it matters little, I'm sure it's fine... I have dropped entire songs if one word in it bothered me the way it sang smile

Shop this because it has loads of value and values!!
I miss Sunday supper with my family, a bunch of loud crazy Italians!!

All the best much luck with it!!!!
MIke

Thanks!
Peace Mike

I didn't get to hear the original -- but the demo is super! Nice lyrical write and has a ring of truth to it. Thanks for sharing. The demo folks did right by you!

I thought I should probably post the revised lyrics. The main change I made once we got into the studio was in the tags on the last chorus. Thanks everyone for listening and the remarks.
