Thanks John for the Original Lyrics to "Yesterday" (Which I'd been aware of...heh!) I'll respond to Cheyenne by saying the String sorta Concerto that Accompanied "Yesterday" WAS really New to the Pop World, & it WAS a Very Distinctive Song at the time/Can't blame folks for recording it to this day..it's easy to memorize..& yep, still sounds pretty good.
But.."Why she had to go, I don't know..She wouldn't say..../
I said something wrong, now I long for Yesterday..ay..ay..ay..."
Guess I yearn for more meat on the bone...heh...but that first line's more Poesie than Plotline...(JMO. Of Course.) Partly 'cuz the second line sorta Cancels It Out....does it not???
I HAVE penned Lyrics to some Really Good Melodies...Check out Mark Schuessler...Soundclick..."You Saved Me". (It's admittedly on the Barry Manilow side...but still holds-up...think it was penned 3 yrs ago...) "Let's Take The Time"...done to a Mark Kauffman Melody...got well-sung/Co-ed with Robert Pickens..BPFICKLEN is his Soundclick site.
When in-lieu of good melodies arriving to write-to, I've never hesitated using "Good Melodies", which arrive in my head as I pen the words. Probably My Meter's off with Somebody-Else's...but I enjoy the simple challenge of making words work.
And..Yeah..this For The Moment remains a "Fun Hobby"..which I admit to never taking All Too-Seriously. Partly 'cuz SOME of what makes a Song "Great" is sheer Dumb Luck. It's happened Before..it'll Happen Again. You can study & argue until you're Blue in the Face...but the next "Hit" WILL happen/Some WILL insist "It's Great!" &..heh...not Everybody's gonna Agree On It. Which is WHY there are So MANY Radio Stations in every Big City...

Stan I agree, what makes a song a hit is mysterious, unpredictable, and often luck, what makes a great crafted song is none of those things. LOL, back to square one. I got to get my ass recording, talking aint helping me!!!

Amen bro, Amen. I see you aint through yet. It aint any more proposeterous than a thread about christianity vs atheism, a thread about a meteor, a thread about how the US sucks when half of us are from here. it at least involved songwriting, which is why we are here.
