The next showcase/meeting of the Tampa Bay Chapter of Just Plain Folks will be held at The Rock Hard Cafe 5915 Memorial Hwy in Tampa on Sunday July 30th. Everyone is welcome to attend and to bring your instrument and perform. Singles, duos, trios and full bands are encouraged and welcome. Here is the schedule... 2:30...P.A. and Stage setup. We need to know how many if any full bands we should expect. If we do not have bands RSVPing in a timely manner there is no sense in setting up drums, keyboards etc. 3:30...Meet and Greet This is your chance to sign up for the showcase and to network with some of the best artists in Tampa Bay. 4:15...Meeting I will cover a few issues then you have a chance to announce any upcoming gigs etc. 5 m...Showcase Your chance to showcase two songs on one of the hottest bandstands in Tampa Bay. Originals are encouraged, covers are acceptable. We will have allot of folks who will want to perform so please be courteous and limit songs to under five minutes each. Please bring your friends and family. Remember, "If you don't make a big deal about your music don't expect anyone else to". I'd like to propose that we as a chapter kick a couple of bucks upstairs to go toward the re-vamping of these very message boards that we communicate so frequently on. We have held raffles before where folks bring in CDs, music related items etc. Any other good ideas. Or should we just pass the hat? Al

How about a donation/tip jar? A tip jar that will be donated to JPF web up grade. Maybe some of the local patrons will also donate. Any other ideas?

Most of you that read these boards know that the boards are in serious need of an upgrade which will cost around a $1,000.Through donations Brian has about half of the money that he needs to get er done.At the JPF meeting on the 30th of July there will be a tip jar on the stage for donations to get these boards upgraded. These boards are the life line of our music community.Let us give Brian the financial support that is so desperately needed to get these boards up to date and keep them running.

I'll be there with my new band FADED PURPLE. So that will add two more members to JPF. Look forward to seeing and listening to you all. I there anyone who is willing to record the audio of our debut performance? I'm still trying to find a good portable recorder like a mini-disc etc. Any suggestions? I'll pay for blank tapes/cds-whatever. Thanks and see you there.

Q, Glad you are going to make it and are coming with your new band. Does the band have a name yet? We haven't had any requests for drums as of yet is this something that you will be needing. Are you bringing your own set. Please let us know ASAP as we have been setting up for acoustic shows recently and if you are the only band that will need them we need to work something out. Al

Is someone bringing drums. I asked for folks to speak up if a full back line was needed but no one has. Q mentioned that he would be bringing his new band mates "Purple Faded" but doesn't mention if one of the trio is a drummer. I dunno Mikey. Do you want to volunteer your drums? You know how that goes. If you bring them you may be asked to accompany a few artists. If you Dan, Jim and Andy are there we can do "Every Step of The Way" Just thought I would ask. Either way is fine with me I just want it to be good for everyone. Al

Naw, no drums or elaborite stage setups needed for us. At least not yet at this showcase. We'll just be doing two acoustic numbers. There may however be a suprise special FX involving cell phones. I still would like someone to record it and make us a copy if there's any volunteers. Thanks.....Follow peace, if it aint peaceful, don't go there.

Mike called me yesterday about bringing drums to the showcase. Even if no one needs them for anything specific, how about an end of the night jam. Perhaps the Doctor would join in for some greasy blues and anyone else interested. Please respond soon. Mike will be the drummer. Dan

Thanks to those of you that donated to the TIPS to keep these boards running smoothly. I had the pleasure of following Jak,Freemont John,North 2 South & Paul.It took me a minute to get the stars out of my eye's and just do the best I could with my songs.I guess a man is never too old to have admiration cloud his vision. What a treat. Thanks to all of the performers for doing such a wonderful job.A special thanks to Doc Lovett for putting some greasy rock n roll in my soul.It was great to see & hear Doc. G'nite!

Hey you guys and gals!! What a great meeting and what a nice reunion to see some we haven't seen in way too long!! Mikey, thank you for playing drums with us. We've missed you SO much man. Glad to see you back playing again. We'll be in touch. Jerry, you sounded GREAT brother. I really enjoyed that first song you did. I was just out there bopping along and really listening. Thanks to all for the great feedback on Long Gone Lover too (the "out of character" song we played). It is a song we wrote and recorded some time ago...from a solo project I was working. It may soon come to fruition from our "treasure trove" -- a cache of songs we have that have yet to be released... or we may just revamp the songs and record them as N2S too. Might start heading away from southern country and go "north" and do some fusion rock/blues and have a whole new sound in months to come. Never know with us! LOL!! Anyway...sorry we couldn't stay longer folks, but we played a loooong night before (didn't fall into bed until 3:30am) and after jumping around doing aerobics on stage all night with the twenty-somethings at Rare Olive then tearing down and loading all the heavy gear, and having to get up early yesterday morning, I was ready to bag it early and go home and just chill, watch a movie and eat some goodies. Becky and Leigh, Andy, Jules, Emmet, Larry Edwards, Jak, Bob Lever, Lieutenant Dan, El Doctoro and Mrs. Doctoro and gang, Jeff Blake, Monty and all the rest, it was great to see you!! Looking forward to next time. See you all again soon, and please tune into our radio show. If you have well produced music, get in touch with us and we can consider it for upcoming show themes! All the Best, Cin and Frank [This message has been edited by Cindy LaRosa (edited 07-31-2006).]
