For those of you that listened to my last one, this one's only 2.5 minutes This was the first song I ever posted at JPF, back in 05. My friend Hillary Strayer sings it. Since then, there have been two big changes: I got my mother-in-law to add a fiddle part and I got Sub to add live drums and bass. He also fattened up the acoustic guitar part. Tracks for this have been recorded in three different places - my study in Florida, Sub's Studio in New York, and the fiddle track on a laptop in a cabin on the top of a mountain in Georgia One of theses days, I may edit out 2 bars between each verse... The song is called Wanderlust. It's here: http://www.soundclick.com/bands/songInfo.cfm?bandID=377550&songID=2666010Lyric is below. Any comments appreciated... Thanks, Scott Wanderlust (c) 2005 by S.W. Campbell Hillary Strayer: vocals Mike Caro: drums, bass, guitar Betsy Jones: Fiddle Scott Campbell: guitar, banjo, backing vox When your home is on your back and your weight is on your feet May everything you carry, be everything you need And as the miles beat your soles into dust May you never, may you never, lose your wanderlust When outcomes are uncertain, and situations fluid When you're damaged if you don't, and doubted if you do Well may your instincts be ones that you will trust And may you never, may you never, lose your wanderlust And when your limbs grow weary and your strength begins to fade May the journeys in your mind, match the best of those you've made And as the evening winds its way to dusk May you never, may you never, lose your wanderlust May you never, may you never, lose your wanderlust

I never heard the original, but this sounds very good. Love the fiddle and the banjo is nice too. Vocals are good and the mix as a whole is well done. This song is way over 2.5 minutes, it's 1200 miles long if you count the distance of all the players.
Loved the listen.

Hey Scott, I always love all the subtle hooks and easy feeling your songs bring instantly. This one is a perfect example of exactly that. And I have to add all the jokes and people who are anit Mother In Law and what does your do? She lays down fiddle tracks for your song.. Cmon man how frigging cool is that I'm adding this enhanced version of your wanderful tune WanderlustI just couldn't bare not hearing my fancy brush work and any cymbals lol... Hey Rick: Thanks! Yeah, it's incredible to me how technology has reached the point where we can do stuff like this. This song was written for a young friend of ours who decided she would go to Europe for a year. Two years later, she's still there, supporting herself by teaching English in various countries. Appreciate the listen... Hey Sub: You're too cool! I replaced the version I put up with your enhanced version so both your link and mine take people to the same song. I had to break out new software to mix this since there were 16 tracks Guess it's gonna take me awhile to learn how to mix drum tracks Yeah, my in-laws are cool. Betsy is first violist in a symphony and also played fiddle in a bluegrass band. There was an article about her and my father in law in the Cleveland Plain Dealer recently - they are about 70 and the article was about them rock climbing Every year they do a bicycle tour in some part of the world - carrying all their camping gear with them and setting up camp in a different place each night. I find them very inspirational Thanks again for the enhancement! Scott

Still a good tune. I listened this morning, thought something was wrong with the file, then remembered it wasn't you singing lead. You got a cool mother-in-law, wanna trade?

Hey Scott,
Great title and the melodic sentiment seemed to go hand in hand with the lyrics. Inspirational in many aspects and on many levels.
From the Bayous to the Smoky Mountains to the skyscrapers of NYNY amazing!
Great collab guys I truly enjoyed the listen!

You must have posted this one before I joined. Somehow it sounds familiar - I think you might have played a recording of it for me when I was at your place. Very nice all around - lyrics and music and presentation. You have some poetic lines in there that are just perfect. Although I like all the lyrics, the two that especially struck my fancy are "And as the miles beat your soles into dust" and "And as the evening winds its way to dusk." Love the fiddle and banjo too. Super tune.

Hi Kaley: Thanks! The break sounds much better on this version, I think. Hey Louis: LOL Maybe we should ask them if they wanna trade sons-in-laws Hi Accel: Appreciate the listen - spent a lot of time on this lyric - think it took me most of a Saturday just to come up with the first two lines. Glad you liked it! Hey Michael: My mother-in-law came up with 3 parts for the break - the idea being we would use one of them. One of the three didn't work. I was going to go with just the main, melodic , part. But on a whim, I put them both on and asked my wife and father-in-law which version they liked better. They liked the one with both parts playing so I went with that..... Hey Clint: Yes, I played this while you were here. Was before I sent it off to Sub so it's a bit different from the version you heard. I will never claim any of my lyrics are good - but this one is one of my favorites. Thanks! Scott

Hey Scott,
It's a real "Scott Campbell" tune, just flows along and represents what you are singing. Cool fiddle and banjo.
If there's any nit, it's the bass which seems a little loud and is dragging a busy song down. Maybe revisit and double the tempo or give it a walk ? Very listenable.
cheers, niteshift

Very cool song Scott. This has a great overall sound. I love the fiddle and the frenetic drums.
If I have one nit, it's the crashes. They seem a little almost bombastic in places. If there's a way to mix them back in the mix, I'd certainly give that a shot.
That's a small nit. Great tune,
Ian

Scott, This one's truly beautiful. Thanks for the listen. It definitely has your signature on it! Great work on it, everybody, and what cool in-laws you have, too!! Mine are great too, but they're looking at hip replacement soon and stuff like that. Can't imagine having rock climbers! (on either side...!)
These lyrics really ARE GOOD, too. Trust us when we all say that!

Thanks, Linda! Nice to see you back - hope the novel is going well... Hey Bob: Glad you like it. We go to two different places in Georgia - one is Mt. Yonah, which is halfway between Cleveland and Helen in the northeast corner of the state. The other is La Fayette, in the northwest corner about a half hour south of 'Nooga. Neither is in your neck of the woods but we could take a detour Nice to see you back too... Scott

Hey Scott,
First of all this song is a great piece of work. So often the production or performance artist moves our attention away from the song itself. But this song is so nice. The production and performances are very good as well.
This has a very Byrds feel to me, and "Feel A Whole Let Better" or their version of "My Back Pages" specifically come to mind. Pretty stellar company.
I did have one nit and that's the first line(s) of the second verse. The "situations fluid" just doesn't flow the way the rest of the lyrics do. You can even hear the vocalist struggle a little bit on it. one suggestion would be,
"When outcomes are uncertain, and the pathway seems to move"
Tomorrow or roadbed could also substitute for pathway.
Great song. Jay

Hey Linda: Back to work! Oops - me too Hey Jay: Nice to see you back. Very nice words - glad you liked the song! I may do something with that line - I have to admit that I probably weighed "situations fluid" too heavily because its a favorite expression of mine - possibly not the best reason to use it in a song. Hillary got better on that line later on when we sang this live a few places - this recording was made before we practiced it much....maybe another not so great idea Thanks again! Scott

Hi Scott, I really like the message of this song. It's packed full of wisdom imo. I also like it in the bluegrass package. That way I can learn to play it maybe and play it with the bluegrass pickers. (I don't have any bluegrass numbers). Hey they might like it too! And I ditto how cool it is to be able to work with your own Mother-in-Law! That's too funny Louis wants to trade! Also, I heard it before but I didn't remember enough about the music backing to compare. But, I did like the drums and of course, I am in no position to nit those! Ha ha! I'm still trying to find that program that Sub tried to tell me about (the one that has the drum pattern loops you can use in place of a metronome click track). I finally gave up. That's why I'm still not ready to work on Stir the Pot again. Sorry to hijack your thread with this little note. Hope you don't mind too bad. Vanessa

Hey Vanessa: I've been away for a few days and just now noticed you listened to this. Hey, its a pretty easy song to play - very basic chords.... (G) When your home is on your back and your (C) weight is on your (G)feet May (Em) everything you (G) carry be (Am) everything you (D) need And (Em) as the (C) miles beat (G) your soles into (C) dust (G) May you never (D) May you never (C) lose your wander (G) lust I think that's it - I'm playing air guitar here at work I'll check it later and edit it if I have to Yeah, my mother-in-law is great - how cool is that??? Scott
