My feeling when I'm wearing "producer's hat" however, is that the music and lyrics feel "slightly" disconnected in places--I think this classic country tune for me, feels more pause is needed between several of the lines--verses primarily, where I felt "natural" pace delay felt eminent, but then the song was expedited at those junctures--JMO. That's how it "felt" in two or three places only with this music for me, but I surely like it a lot! I think a few pauses or music rests, would enhance the emotional fabric of this song and improve prosody.

Like I said this was a terrific performance by all, and a great melody and arrangement. I really enjoyed it, nice work.

Eddie, we appreciate you taking the time for that analysis. I haven't really thought through this mix since we finished it several weeks ago. I'll definitely listen to it in the context of your thoughts. Two things come to mind. Firstly, I like your idea of a rest and secondly, I wonder if the mandolin fills contribute to a rushed feel between vocal phrases? As an old bluegrasser I'm overly prone to thinking that I need a fill every where the vocal pauses. The mandolin in lieu of a steel is, I realize, not typical of this style.
