I thought it was interesting that IMDB was closing their message boards in 4 days, after becoming the only real go to place on all things movies and TV. I used their boards to learn all sorts of things about films and TV shows as well as to post reviews etc. Now, they will only use Facebook and other social media for people to respond to content etc.

They say they are doing this, in large part, because of the non stop political arguments that happen on nearly every discussion. Ironically, they point to this, but are pushing people to places like Facebook which is nothing more than a cancer filled vile cesspool of intolerance to diversity of thought no matter what you believe and the focus on good and bad Film and TV will be watered down to just noise.

It's likely going to have a disappointing effect on film and TV consumption that most won't realize until it is too late. Everything is being fed into the same handful of sites where finding truth is more and more difficult. There really isn't anything comparable to IMDB for music (All Music really falls well short) and it is sorely needed. But music has become so devalued, no one will likely ever bother to build such a site. And now the golden goose is going to be sacrificed for corporate control of info without dissent on IMDB.

The internet age which was supposed to open up free speech to new levels has actually created new tools of oppression and misinformation for those in power. And so it goes!

So another one bites the dust.
