I seldom write songs about contemporary topics because they require a certainty of viewpoint that I seldom feel these days. This one is an exception..... smile

The Giant Ain’t Sleeping Anymore
© 2019 by S.W. Campbell

Streets in Miami are filling with water
And Greenland’s getting green
Oceans keep on getting hotter
And they’re making more wind and rain
So say goodbye to your tropical storm and hello to
Your category four
Cause the giant ain’t sleeping anymore

Wildfires race cross California
While tundra thaws in Nome
In tornado alley there’s no time to warn ya
You’re about to lose your home
But the ticks and mosquitos love every minute
As they bring disease up north
Cause the giant ain’t sleeping anymore

Politicians who say, “No one knows the answer”
Are playing us for fools
Telling us that windmills are causing cancer
So let’s burn through all our coal
We don’t need no eggheads doing science
We don’t need no dumb accord
Well the giant ain’t sleeping anymore

At the rate that things are changing
We’ll still be here to catch the blame
And listen to our grandkids curse our name

When did we all become such chickens?
Scared to take a dare
Dare to start making good decisions
‘Stead of sending thoughts and prayers
There was a time when the frog in the water being heated
Was just a metaphor
But the giant ain’t sleeping anymore
