I don't think you need to consciously analyze a lyric for a word to seem out of place. It just jumps out at you. To me, that's what "transcend" does here. And don't underestimate the listener. He/she does pay attention.

I have often thought that a word was chosen just to rhyme, but in the case of successful songs this is usually in certain pop genres that are all about the melody or production and the lyrics don't really matter and are almost an afterthought. If I hear it in a song where the lyric is actually an important part of the song, then it jars.

All this is just my opinion, offered in an attempt to be helpful. I know I can overthink things sometimes.
