Many years ago, I was working with a retired and very experienced arranger/composer who mostly worked in the 50s and 60s... anyway, he loved to tell stories of what went on in the studios and tv back then, and he was telling me he had written this little song for some tv show, and then went to england and europe for a couple of months... He said when he came back, he found a large check in his mailbox as royalties for that tune...

I asked what tune it was he had written... It turned out it was "I am the merry mailman" that was sung by "Capt. Jack McCarthy" a kid's show that I used to watch when I was a kid... I think this was a New York show, so other parts of the country may not have gotten it... It was one of those "I don't believe it" moments...
