I love tape delay... I have an old Otari tape machine I use for a delay when I need one. I also restored a Fisher SpaceXpander spring reverb unit from the early sixties, nothing like it in the digital realm, that's for sure.
Jody's right, though... if you want the '50s rockabilly sound, you need to strip everything down to the basics and get yourself into a strat (or hollowbody, like an Epiphone Dot if you're on a budget) and a drummer with a 3-piece kit and some cheap beer.
