Although I've never spent alot of time in Louisiana, I did drive around Northern Shreveport and the Caddo Lake area on my way to Oklahoma once. After reading "The Life And Legend Of Leadbelly", I had to check out his old stomping ground, though I didn't get to see his grave. Went looking for a barrel house on Fannin st. What does a barrel house look like? Just kidding. According to the book it was called a barrel house because in olden days they bought barrels of bath tub gin and charged a nickle for every time you dip your cup in it. Leadbelly's early venues.
