That is really a big key in all this. In Marc's group he has some really good up and coming writers (non-artists) that are actively doing co-writes. Now, having a choice, would they want to write with me -- or an up and coming artist with drive who will perform the song, maybe do a demo, maybe put it on their CD and has their own set of contacts in Nashville? Pretty much a no-brainer.
If that writer has some down time or isn't busy at the moment, then they might write with me to see what I can do or to just "be nice". But under normal circumstances, they have to go write with the "artist". Since there are no cuts to be had for existing "stars", you have to find the new, up and coming folks. And you have to find A LOT of them, because as we know, success is tough and fleeting.
It is what it is.
