Hi Dottie

I love when someone says my name three times in a row or types it LOL it really expresses the emphasis on how sincere they are being smile

Not to hijack such a FUN thread with "Woes Of Me" lol but why not LOL

First thanks so much for your feelings about my little song. Given how I'm feeling lately it is a HUGELY nice thing to hear. Also reminds me that I should post some old songs up on the mp3 boards 1- For those who never heard them 2- Cause I'm not writing anymore.

Lets answer some of those great questions some which I have been asked many times by many people.

1- Personally on the song I'm proud that it's genuinely liked by so many people. Many in which I don't know. A ways back we were doing a vote/pick of your favorite songs you ever heard posted here on the boards. While I was very proud that five different people picked five different songs of mine. I could not ignore that "Brooklyn" got mentioned several times itself.

Also proud that I get emails or comments about it on You Tube
it has like 30,000 NO TRICK hits. Ya know the computer geeks know how to get 30 thousand hits on a song in a week.... ANY SONG

2- Wow was that a hit song? If not you should be pitching that song!

Having a hit and getting a hit are two TOTALLY different things.
It was pitched, not nearly enough biz people though. But it was directly sent to Clive Davis and while complimented for a few things it was rejected.
I have no problem with that, he rejects everything :)and has been turning me down for 28 years. Sometimes a connection can be too BIG! Others around and other around him on board would be alot more persuasive.

I just don't like when they try to say your not up too par with current hits, most hits that are soooooo bad musically and lyrically it makes you sick AND your open minded, mind you.

3 - Mike I read that it’s an older song BUT it could easily fit on the radio I don’t care how old it is, some things never change. Am I wrong? Do you think that it’s dated?

Yes it's a bit dated, but really ANYTHING can be done production wise by the people who have the knack to be made current ANYTHING! What some people don't realize is in most POP music anything LIVE feels or sounds dated. And if your voice is not a kid sounding one, or a typical female radio voice or not a Hip Hop one it is OUT! for the most part. Still this could almost have been sung by somebody more sophisticated and yet VERY poppy like a "Billy Joel etc... This subject matter and approach is not SEX driven or related so there's 90% chances out the window.

4- I know you sing it great but I’m sure there are people that would love to record and perform this song.

Thanks, but like 90% of my songs they were never written or shopped at least with the intentions of me singing them.
So really any label could take some young good looking kid from behind some register who doesn't need all the voice in the world. Give them a catchy song, and make a video. Spread it around and it will do "Something"

Isn't that what that silly "Rico Suave" hit song was all about.
This "I'm Like Brooklyn" is like that in regards of it being a Novelty Type Song. Humbled as I am and believe me I am. I feel this songs Bass line has more musical merrit than that entire song lol
I also know that there are 5 million people in Brooklyn if you never played this anywhere else but Brooklyn you'd sell a a half million copies. They are VERY VERY proud!
That is something you can try to do yourself but you'd need to be healthy and young to even start to think about. I'm neither.

5 - When I watch you I feel like I’ve wasted my whole life! I’m learning guitar now but I don’t have anyone to play with so I’m sure I’m teaching myself bad habits, lol. Sorry I got carried away

Dot, it's okay to feel that way for a little while I do it ALL THE TIME... I put on Stevie Wonders albums and think about taking lighter fluid to all my equipment.
Did you know that I am RIGHT NOW teaching myself how to read music with the guitar. I am on BOOK ONE! "Mary had a little lamb"

I never learned to read music or learned theory. I always took the short path to my dreams which turned out to be the longest path and hardest road EVER! So now that I'm wiped out from health problems and I'm musically exhausted from ALMOST "getting" not "having" that elusive hit song, being let down COUNTLESS times for soooo many years.

I feel like a wasted a whole life too, and certainly the last six years of it more than anything. So we are alot more alike them you realize. Please understand your a good writer and a promising good lyricist. PLAY into your strengths if you want to advance what you LOVE doing into some work and reward.

I find a little comfort in knowing how people feel about the songs and me. And also that they are just as amazed and confused
that I can't get help or anywhere with seeing 64 doctors with a 14 year medical problem as they are with my 40 year music career
giving me no songwriting deal. And a total of $700 in pay for a lifetime.... Just this year too smile

So thanks for making my song a HIT in your life. It REALLY means alot to me. Otherwise I probably wouldn't even be around.

Thanks
Mike

Sorry for the hijack guys

Thanks!
Peace Mike
