A couple months ago I mentioned to floyd my apparent inability to write a good old style country song. The style that is simple but not simplistic (an often subtle but important distinction). He suggested this song that he had written and previously recorded. His arrangement was a terrific pro all the way piano/steel/drums production. That being nothing I could produce with any confidence, I fell back to my bluegrass roots and went with all acoustic instruments. Floyd not only offered up the song but also sang harmony and helped with the mix -- all of which we are most appreciative of. So we go from Honey Babe Blues to something a LOT different. Comments of any persuasion are most welcome. Thanks for listening.

I can't get enough of that amazing voice of Janice's, and then coupled with the song and everything else...count me in as a huge fan!

Thanks Lisa...that means a lot to her. Janice and I have been married for 33 years and it was 10 years into it before I even knew she could sing. Glad she found discovered it....or glad that a friend heard her quietly singly harmony to him and encouraged her. Hey the photo is a selfie with two photo bombs

This is as country as it gets....I and love it. Very easy to listen to, and very easy to sing along, all the while telling the sad tale of something that we have all been thru in some degree at some point in life.

I can almost smell the whiskey in the shot glass on the bar, and can almost see the dancers on the floor while this vocal is being played from the bandstand, and as my mind wanders around this imagery, I can see that one sad face sitting alone trying to hold back the emotion they are there to forget.

Hey Janice and bud, Love the intro, and then the sadly controlled wailing of a girl who wants to feel nothing. I could slow dance to this one up until my fifth shot of whiskey, then I'd just sit and wallow in the story. I like it, I can hear playing in thousands of honky-tonk bars nightly to all the disillusioned. Nicely done.

Janice, I'd check the SoundCloud link. It was sounding awful to me. I went back to your blog page and found the link at the bottom and the song sounded wonderful. So I'm not sure what was going on with Sound Cloud.

Anyway, it's a great country song and you've got one of those heartbreaking voices like the Grand Dames of old. I'll bet Connie Smith would love this one.

Amazing song from every possible angle. Good story and lyric, awesome arrangement and phenomenal vocals and back-up. Top notch all the way. I wish I could have seen the lyrics because there were many lines I really loved. Like "left me to face me alone" and the final two lines of the chorus which I believe went "Stood on the edge and waited for the fall, Into that bottomless hell of feeling nothing at all."

From my perspective this song is as ready to roll as they come. I also loved the fact that this is a country song that involves a woman and not a man drinking her troubles away. Made it more interesting to me. You two are truly inspiring with your production quality and musicianship. I'm a big fan. Great stuff.

You really captured the old traditional Country sound and mood with this one. Never was my cup of tea but I know how it's supposed to sound and you got it down to a tee. Nice work and you have a beautiful voice, Janice.

Nice job here, and I think you've achieved that classic country vibe and the performance was sensational. I could listen to Janice all day and never tire of her voice--you have a "Linda Ronstadt" tone quality that is rare."

My feeling when I'm wearing "producer's hat" however, is that the music and lyrics feel "slightly" disconnected in places--I think this classic country tune for me, feels more pause is needed between several of the lines--verses primarily, where I felt "natural" pace delay felt eminent, but then the song was expedited at those junctures--JMO. That's how it "felt" in two or three places only with this music for me, but I surely like it a lot! I think a few pauses or music rests, would enhance the emotional fabric of this song and improve prosody.

Like I said this was a terrific performance by all, and a great melody and arrangement. I really enjoyed it, nice work.

Eddie, we appreciate you taking the time for that analysis. I haven't really thought through this mix since we finished it several weeks ago. I'll definitely listen to it in the context of your thoughts. Two things come to mind. Firstly, I like your idea of a rest and secondly, I wonder if the mandolin fills contribute to a rushed feel between vocal phrases? As an old bluegrasser I'm overly prone to thinking that I need a fill every where the vocal pauses. The mandolin in lieu of a steel is, I realize, not typical of this style.
