Hiya JPF land!

Well, it's still snowing...and the Patriots pulled it out of the hat (yippee!), so I guess it's about time I posted this. I actually had put up the lyrics a while back and got some helpful tweaks...and then Ricki was kind enough to musicate them for me....but I guess the only excuse I have for not posting it sooner is the nature of the lyrics themselves. blush

Regardless, enjoy and let us know what you think!!

Domestic Goddess Blues
(c) 2014, Beth G. Williams, BMI & Ricki Bellos, BMI

5:00 in the morning
Gotta get outta bed
No snooze alarm warning
Chores hang over my head

Serve food that's organic
Sort clothes for the wash
Calm school-induced panic
Picking up, dropping off

If only I could go on strike
Just maybe they'd see what it's like, 'cause...

Got The Domestic Goddess Blues
Where's the raise, I've paid my dues
Don't feel appreciated
Staying home is over-rated
This Cinderella's not the least bit amused
Got The Domestic Goddess Blues

Serving a life sentence
With no chance for parole
Lost all independence
Two kids are in control

Why can't they peel a grape for me?
Or stop before I count to three? 'Cause...

Got The Domestic Goddess Blues
Where's the raise, I've paid my dues
Don't feel appreciated
Staying home is over-rated
This Cinderella's not the least bit amused
Got The Domestic Goddess Blues

Back when I worked, sure my boss was a jerk but the perks of the job were sublime
Now my clients live with me, they pout and dismiss me, what I'd give for a tall glass of wine

Got The Domestic Goddess Blues
Where's the raise, I've paid my dues
Don't feel appreciated
Staying home is over-rated
This Cinderella's not the least bit amused
Got The Domestic Goddess Blues

'Cause it's not till the end of the day, after I wash off their little cooties
At last I can finally enjoy my fun wifely duties

I've got the Domestic Goddess Blues

Hey there Calvin,

Thanks a bunch for stopping by to take a listen. It's not exactly high-brow, but we had fun with it anyway! grin In fact, I've only got time for a few more crits before I have to get back to it....

In the meantime, enjoy you're decidedly warmer weather down south,
Beth

Hi Beth.
I can tell you had fun with it.
I have no idea what those type of blues are though.
Ah well, I can't have everything. smile

Hey Vic,

Thanks kindly for checking this one out. Yep, Ricki and I did have a good time playing around with it (and in truth, I give her a lot of credit for putting up with my shenanigans)...

Also, how nice for you, that you don't know what these particular blues are -- living the dream I guess... grin

Take care,
Beth

Hi Calvin, glad it got you smiling.

Vic, trust me, this kind of blues, you don't want!

Thanks for listening Mike.

It did sound like you ladies enjoyed this. I'm grateful each day for my "Domestic Goddess!" She works way too hard and I would be in immense trouble without her. I enjoyed the message... and you achieved the mission objective very well.

Congratulations,

Hey Lisa,

Thanks a bunch for stopping in on this one. Not surprisingly, I had written it mostly for venting purposes, but when Ricki offered to musicate it, I figured who am I to stand in her way? laugh Seriously though, over time she has been very generous working her magic with my lyrics, and I'm always grateful she puts up with me! Glad you had a chance to hear the final product!

Have a good afternoon....

Too cool! We're both laughing
out loud over our morning joe.

We would single out a few fav lines but
that would pretty much be the
entire song! There are enough
clever lines in here for three or
four writes.

Kudos y'all. We much enjoyed it
and will be sharing it with family
and friends.

Hi Beth & Ricki,

I remember this from the lyric forum! Well you never disappoint Beth with your writing. Love the title and the lyric is very tightly written...everything in place with those end rhymes and inner rhymes. You make writing look easy, ya know. The line "Why can't they peel a grape for me" has me laughing out loud. Oh my...so much fun here. smile

Ricki, I really enjoyed your music and vocal. The singing is so expressive and you sound like you're having fun. The melody sounds so natural and the pace is great. Enjoyed this lots, ladies!

Cheers to you both! (clink, clink go the glasses)

Kristi

The line "Why can't they peel a grape for me" has me laughing out loud. Oh my...so much fun here. smile

Ricki, I really enjoyed your music and vocal. The singing is so expressive and you sound like you're having fun. The melody sounds so natural and the pace is great. Enjoyed this lots, ladies!

Cheers to you both! (clink, clink go the glasses)

Hey Kristi!

Sorry I haven't responded to you until now. Among other things, these chronic snowstorms have been keeping me busy! How did you make out down your way?

Anyhoo, thanks so much for checking this one out and all your nice comments. I'm trying to get back into the swing of things around here -- though I decidedly do not have the wherewithal you and some of these other JPF diehards do by participating in FAWM! I look forward to hearing/seeing what you're coming up with.

Speaking of Ricki, you recall what a nightmare it is working with her (NOT wink !). We should try another three-way some time!!

Regardless, we need to catch up girlie. Talk to you later, and thanks again...

xo,
Beth

Hey Tom,

Thanks for visiting and for your awesome comments. I love Leon Redbone...how fun would it be for him and Ricki to have a duet?!?!?! I haven't heard anything about him lately, to be honest...saw him on Saturday Night Live a couple of years ago....

Anyway, glad you could relate to drudgery of our domestic duties!! Good luck with them at your end as well....

Ciao for now,
Beth

Thanks for listening Tom. I think Leon is hiding out in the basement.

Hey Pete, I'm so happy to see you and listen to your blues, I can forgive your faux pas. This one. Just one time. Another one and we sic the Domestic Goddess on your butt. smile

Oh Pete,

Get up off your knees, silly! There will be plenty of time for scrubbing the decks later.... laugh wink ...

Seriously, nice to see you, and thanks for stopping by to check this one out. Yup, the teen years are challenging for sure. Mine are actually 14 and 16, and they have mastered that Look of Disdain perfectly. Thankfully they use it VERY rarely, though, so I tend to sort of laugh when they use it.

That said, they have yet to figure out the grape peeler....

Ciao for now,
Beth

I liked this one Beth. Did you ever consider performing this at an open mic or putting a music only track on a flashdrive and doing it karaoke? It would be a hoot. You might get a free drink or two.

This is really good Beth and Ricki,

The lyric is terribly clever and engaging and the music is pretty perfect for the lyric.

Lyric wise, I'm not in love w/ the line "Gotta get out of bed"... it's the opening and it's not exactly a zinger. It's kind of stating the obvious and I bet you could come up w/ something more interesting in a non-rhyming line.

Music wise no real nits. IMO this is ready for the full band. It's a really good song IMO.

Peace,

Ian

Hey Travis,

Just finally getting caught up on posting around here again, so let me apologize for the belated response. Thanks a bunch for giving this one a spin. Country blues is (are?) Ricki's specialty (well ONE of them anyway grin )....

Have a great afternoon,
Beth

Well hey there!

A belated thank you for checking this one out. Since I only wrote the lyrics and can't sing my way out of a paper bag, I'll let Ricki answer your sweet karaoke question! There are probably a few comedienne's out there who could do it justice on stage grin ...

Anyhoo, glad you got a kick out of it grin ....

Hi there Ian,

A belated thank you to you too for taking the time to listen to this one and to share your feedback with us. I know you are quite meticulous in that regard, so your words mean that much more to me.

As for trying to dial up that second line, I can't entirely disagree with you. Though I think it works to set the scene, if we ever take this any further, I could certainly consider revisiting it.

Thanks again!
Beth

Hi Summeoyo! Thanks for listening. I'm not a performer so, even the offer of free booze won't do it for me but thanks for the thought.

What a clever little write. I enjoyed it! At the end of the song, in your outro lines, I kinda wanted hear something like, "Now where's my chardonnay?" You coulda rhymed it back to your "'cause it's not til the end of the day" line, and the chardonnay reference might have tied in nicely with the "wine" reference in your bridge. Just an idea, but this was really good. -TK

Domestic Goddess Blues
(c) 2014, Beth G. Williams, BMI & Ricki Bellos, BMI

5:00 in the morning
Gotta get outta bed
No snooze alarm warning
Chores hang over my head- To me this line hangs up a little...not as smooth, not what about chores stuck in my head. It may change the meaning slightly but to me it needs a little smoother delivery on this line

Serve food that's organic
Sort clothes for the wash
Calm school-induced panic
Picking up, dropping off

If only I could go on strike
Just maybe they'd see what it's like, 'cause...

Got The Domestic Goddess Blues
Where's the raise, I've paid my dues
Don't feel appreciated
Staying home is over-rated
This Cinderella's not the least bit amused
Got The Domestic Goddess Blues

Serving a life sentence
With no chance for parole
Lost all independence
Two kids are in control

Why can't they peel a grape for me?
Or stop before I count to three? 'Cause...

Got The Domestic Goddess Blues
Where's the raise, I've paid my dues
Don't feel appreciated
Staying home is over-rated
This Cinderella's not the least bit amused
Got The Domestic Goddess Blues

Back when I worked, sure my boss was a jerk but the perks of the job were sublime
Now my clients live with me, they pout and dismiss me, what I'd give for a tall glass of wine

Got The Domestic Goddess Blues
Where's the raise, I've paid my dues
Don't feel appreciated
Staying home is over-rated
This Cinderella's not the least bit amused
Got The Domestic Goddess Blues

'Cause it's not till the end of the day, after I wash off their little cooties
At last I can finally enjoy my fun wifely duties--what about at last I can enjoy my SO CALLED fun wifely duties? smile

I've got the Domestic Goddess Blues

I enjoyed this ladies. I believe most stay at home moms can clearly relate to this. smile

Kimberly

Well hey there Kimberly,

Glad you had a chance to listen to this one, and that you enjoyed it.

Yup, I figure it's a pretty relatable topic. Once you lose the humor in these situations though, you're done-for, so I just keep trying to laugh about it (through the tears, lol).

Thanks for your nice comment.

Cheers,
Beth

Hiya Nelson,

Thanks a bunch for your feedback on our little ditty. If we put a smile on someone's face, our work is done!

As for a video version of this, where on earth does one find a grape-peeler these days? laugh

Have a good weekend,
Beth
