Thanks Iggy, I like to think writing this has given some sense of peace and closure to Lisa. I was happy to be along for that ride.

Thanks Dave, it's a brave thing for Lisa to have done in writing this, and also to then turn it over to a stranger in the hopes of keeping the essence the same. If she's happy with it, then I've done my job.

Hi Dave, Awww...thanks for your lovely remarks! It took me a long time to get this on paper ... my first iteration of it was in the third person and very disconnected. Over time, it evolved. I'm so thankful to Ricki for taking this on, reworking the message so it worked as a song, in such a beautiful way! Thanks! Lisa

A very poignant write L&R I remember Lisa's lyric on forum 3 a short while since and it's good you have both teamed up and pulled this off with aplomb. Travis

Wow, Lisa and Ricki. This is one fine piece of art. Lyrically sublime and the musical treatment is spot on for it. Reminds me of a female version of Simon and Garfunkle. Your pain really comes through. Heart wrenching, Lisa.

Lisa and Ricki, Well let me add my voice to the chorus of fans this is a profoundly awesome song. I had goosebumbs from the opening riff to the end. This is a very powerful song. The quick verses are all well written. But that chorus is just so honest and so hard to hear. Love the bridge too. I have heard very few songs that are this provocative. Beautiful work. Tom

Hi Tom F., Thanks so much for the beautiful response! You mention the chorus being your favorite part ... I think Ricki did such a gorgeous job on that chorus! She took my original thoughts and made them so special, lyrically and then musically! Lisa

You know Lisa and Ricki I was thinking I have noticed that the more intimate and personal a song is, the more revealing of a hidden, secret part of us, the more strongly the listener relates to it. The temptation as a songwriter is to idealize the message (make it sound cool)so we look good expressing it. While the real goal is to drop all that and find a way to express purely, honestly and clearly an emotion we have experienced.
You guys have done beautifully what so many of us can't quite accomplish.

Hi Tom,
Wow....thank you for your very inspiring and thoughtful words and insights! I keep re-reading your comment ... it has its own kind of poetry! My intent in writing it was to honor Benjamin, and since i couldn't speak to his personality or so many unknown traits, I could only focus on my experience of him. I got it down on paper, NEVER expecting that it would find music because of its personal nature. When Ricki contacted me, my jaw quite literally dropped. I thought Ricki was so brave to do the editing she had to do to make it sing. And, from my perspective, she got every word perfect. She boiled it down to its essence. Thanks so much for returning with your lovely thoughts! Lisa
