In the last few days, I have had several people from the boards find me and say, "I didn't know you were still songwriting"...WOW, have I drifted that much? I have been keeping busy, I am doing 50/90 right now and I regularly do FAWM, I am performing at open mics and I co-run a songwriting group that meets locally every month. I have worked on 20 new songs this year already and written 9 new poems. I have been selling my photography and am preparing for an art show and my photography will be featured in the NH Poetry Society's quarterly publication and I am working on a children's picture book with a local artist. OH and I'm a mom too...LOL! I promise, I'm still around, just busier, but you can find me on my website tammyjann.com and keep up with me and drag me back when I get lost because I miss you all. Here is a song that has been going over really well at the open mics, I wrote it to the prompt "Gasoline" on the Facebook songwriting skirmish group. Your thoughts are welcome on it and please be forgiving if I don't get in here as often as I should. FIRE AND GASOLINE on SoundCloud Fire and Gasoline by Tammy Jann © 2016 It's the way that you listened It's the way you showed you cared It's the way you'd reach out to me and run your fingers through my hair It's the way you said I was pretty It's the way you smelled my skin It's the way I was falling and how my thoughts had turned to sin Chorus I was already on fire hoping you'd give your love to me and when you fulfilled my desires your love hit my flames like gasoline we're fire and gasoline It's the way the smoke got in my eyes It's the way your kisses drove me insane It's the way you held on so tight and how you were calling out my name Chorus I was already on fire hoping you'd give your love to me and when you fulfilled my desires your love hit my flames like gasoline we're fire and gasoline INSTRUMENTAL BREAK Chorus I was already on fire hoping you'd give your love to me and when you fulfilled my desires your love hit my flames like gasoline we're fire and gasoline

Hey. The second verse is more like fire and gasoline but I felt no sparks in the first verse. I didn't feel the crazy combustible love out of that. Like at any moment say in the chip aisle at a Walmart he will grab you and just start making out with you. Or on the hood of a car at a police station. That is fire and gasoline. Your love for each other needs to BLOW UP. Him showing that he cares isn't fire and gasoline. The kiss line? Not fire and gasoline. They read like lines from some sensual romance book. Or your diary about a lover. Fire and gasoline go BOOM. there ain't no BOOM in the first verses. Give me BOOM.

Hi Tammy, "I was already on fire" sets this song apart from others that follow a more classic Eros/Psyche trajectory, whereas Eros seems to (symbolically) supply the fire as well ("then you came along/swept me off my feet," yadacetera, lol).. Your girl here owns an erotic imagination--has that fire.. owns her fire..and I like the earnest yet empowering way you put this across, both in your vocal performance and in the song overall. There's a ton of erotic imagery in the verses. I personally feel plenty of fire/gasoline and would think anything more might feel over-the-top, so kudos to your crafty-ness which allows me to use my own imagination to feel the full onslaught of what that fire and gasoline I know will bring. Mike

Aaron,
I think for a gal like me, this is about as "Boom" as I can get..LOL
I performed this at an open mic in a church and APOLOGIZED for the content before I sang it..LOL
I think it sits on the edge of my comfort zone for performing and that matters loads to me when writing now.
I also think some of your examples of "Boom" are more exhibitionist and on the edge of criminal and I don't think that would be comfortable for me to sing about, but if you are inspired by the idea and can put all of that boom into words, maybe this will inspire you to write that song!
Thanks for the listen, sorry if I can't get too edgy for you..LOL!

Plenty to love here, Tams, lyrics, melody, music, performance. You're hitting on all cylinders.
The only bump for me was V2, last line. Unless this is a forbidden love, which is not indicated anywhere, this combustable love should be breathtaking, enormous, exciting, overwhelming but...sinful? I know it's a good rhyme but bringing sin into it gives it a different feel for me. Maybe...and how you read my thoughts within? Or...and how empty my life had been? I don't know, just a thought.
Good to hear you again.
Ricki

The fire and gasoline theme is usually depicted as a bad thing. You turned it into a good thing.

Ricki and Michael,
Thanks for giving this a listen!
I wrote
It's the way I was falling and how my thoughts had turned to sin
It is up to the reader to figure out the situation for themselves, but I did want it to be someone falling in love in a not so perfect situation, but... I didn't want it to be about the intricacies about it, I wanted it to be about someone that needed and wanted love and got it full force and they are still floating on the cloud, I don't want to complicate it with the why it is wrong or what their live story is, it is about something that was surprising and fulfilled someone in an unexpected way. They know they are falling and thinking of sin and they enjoy the heck out of it, but I only want it to be about the fab moment, it is the only "Boom" I can give without it being a sad or explicit song. Just my thoughts, but totally understand what you are picking up on.
Tammy

Hey Tams,
Well.......
Can't say I'm disappointed.
Your craft interlaces with different things, and that's what gives it that uniqueness.
My dear Tams, I have never in my life met an untrained vocalist who is both pitch perfect and has such a natural approach to music.
It's a keeper.
cheers, niteshift

My Oh My What a splendid piece of work Tammy. Sounds like you’re having a blast with your vocal arrangements. Color me…… blown away. The harmonies in the chorus are indeed…… On Fire.
I’m sure you’ll be doing this one live, just as I’m sure the audience will be awe struck.
You never cease to amaze, Tammy.
