I've been super-busy getting ready for the move to FLA, and the "happy troubadour semi-retirement tiki bar circuit". Once again, I'm eternally grateful for the nominations!

Brian, et al., Wow, this is quite an honor, thank you to all those who worked at bringing these nominations about. It would seem I came out strong as a songwriter and have been sliding down ever since because, "Come to the Table" in the Gospel category, was the first song I put to music and I think I submitted around a dozen for consideration. There is probably something very important in that experience I can learn from. http://soundclick.com/share.cfm?id=12571131Thanks Again! Skip

Thanks Bubboon! Sorry you can't make the awards show on August 5th.

I am looking forward to the announcements. I am sorry I will be so far from LA for the show. Will there be a live stream?

Charlie, only if there's enough budget to do so, otherwise we'll post the winners in the morning after.

Thrilled to be nominated also! Mind blowing that you went through so much music! I am especially grateful as mine, like so many, is hard to categorize. Is it no coincidence that the lyrics align with Brian's credos? http://www.capncloudmusic.com/shake-your-head.htmlOther than just (humbly?) telling everyone, what other steps?.... Thanks again. Hi CapnCloud,
Congrats on the nomination. I can't always explain why something gets nominated beyond the simple reality that real people collectively loved your music when given a chance to hear it, without bias and without any agenda beyond listen to music and flagging songs "that moved them" which is another way of saying songs they connected to, or even more simply, liked. Often they pick songs that even the artists as surprised by, which I love because I long ago learned that knowing which of their songs will connect to others is the last thing an artist becomes good at most of the time. Some are thrilled, some surprised, some even get angry asking "how could they have picked THAT song" to which I reply "well, YOU wrote and recorded it, it must have meant something to you as well the day you created it." So often musicians are programmed to try and look at music the way they think "industry" will look at it when sometimes people who perhaps have just experienced a similar set of feelings as you did when you wrote a particular song, connect to it in ways even they may not realize. That's the wonderful magic of music.
Glad you checked in. We've sent you some info (hopefully you got it via email) and as long as you sent us MP3's for individual song(s) nominated, you're good to go beyond deciding if you'll be joining us at the awards show which we just moved from August to October in hopes of more people being able to attend without touring conflicts and family vacations etc.
Welcome aboard, feel free to post on any topic, start your own and join some nice people talking about music.

Your reply is spot on! I've played the "what will "they" think" game and all the analysis in the world won't get you a "right" answer for anybody else, let alone a universal answer. And you're right that the song that was nominated was one of those songs that wouldn't be denied - Just already existed. I read that John Lennon felt that he received songs. And I think that the really good ones are received or unearthed etc. I certainly don't pressure much that doesn't inspire me.
Thanks again - I'm looking forward to receiving (more songs) and your email..
Thanks
Cap'n Cloud

Delighted on behalf of Andina & Rich (and myself as writer) to be nominated twice this year! Grateful to Brian for the amazing work he has done over the years—and the herculean task he so ably undertook to administer and supervise the Awards process for 2017.
Working on getting you .mp4s (or .mp3s) of my nominated songs, as well as link to a YouTube video (a fan filmed us singing at least one of the songs at our holiday concert in Madison a couple of years ago). My singing partner Stephen Lee Rich might have it up on his “OldYodeler” YT page—I need to see if it’s up on mine as well.
Do we have a firm date and venue yet for the banquet in Oct.? Need to firm up my schedule and make travel arrangements—might already have some immutable conflicts. (FARM Oct. 18-21, and family vacation the following weekend).

Our only options for October is either Oct 14th or Oct 28th. I am only available those two days that month to do it. The next and likely last possible date would be Nov 11th. Beyond that are holidays and we must finish before the end of the year as it is the 2017 awards after all. No matter the date, we'll have many people upset they have conflicts. If we can't find a date that works for enough people to financially make the show viable, I will simply announce the winners once voting is done and we won't have a show, though they are often life changing events for many people, myself included. They're LONG, but they are full of diverse talents from around the world representing their genres and their countries and cultures and sharing in an evening about celebrating the collection of talent in the room and the nominees overall and how great it is to make music that connects with others.
We'll do what we can.
Brian

Howdy! I did not receive an email about the change of date for the Awards Show, so I am glad I poke my head in now and then for the yackin' in the forums. I submitted MP3 versions of my nominated cuts. Has the process for submitting the full nominated albums been worked out yet?

Hi all,
Just popping in to say "hello" to everyone. How exciting to be nominated for a JPF Award. In my case, it's for the song "The Peace Within" in the "Traditional Folk" category and in the Video category it's for the Troubadour DVD.
I only found out about the award date change recently. It takes time for the news to reach Ireland it seems! :-)
