Good morning all you JPFers out there! Very old song, very new arrangement. All comments/suggestions are welcome. Thanks as always to Mike Z for sharing his awesome talents. Thanks for listening. Ricki https://soundcloud.com/rickib/why-do-iWHY DO I The trees are bronze against the bluest sky Ravens calling, leaves have fallen I see winter through bloodshot eyes Why do I Time rolls on and on though you may try You can clock it but you can’t stop it I’d give anything so it would not fly Why do I Why do I cry I eat well, sleep well, get good loving And I have a fine home But I get this feeling Deep in my bones I may have just enough to get by In this life But could there be more Waiting outside my door The answer lies right in front of my eyes I can’t see it but I can feel it All I have to do is reach deep down inside Why do I Why do I cry Why do I still cry ©Ricki E. Hi Ricki:
Bluesy, pensive and thought provoking song. Why? Who knows... but we all do it. Otherwise, would we be humans? I think not. Really enjoy your work... made even more special by that "orchestra" you hired down there in "Zaneskiville!" LOL! Thanks for sharing. Keep 'em coming. ----Dave

Hey Ricki,
Great write and great production by Mike Z. Love his guitarring on this and your smoky vocals. For me, your vocal has never sounded better. Loved the melody as well. Listening to the first verse I was reminded of one of my favorite all time tunes.... Who Knows Where The Time Goes (Sandy Denny) version. Your song has a timeless appeal. Beautiful.

Very nice indeed! I think you have found a universal theme there, that feeling of dissatisfaction no matter what your life is like. Have you tried having the melody go up at the end of line 2 in each verse? I'd like to hear a dirty sax in there too.

Hi Ricki. It sounds like a smokey jazz version of House Of The Rising Sun, but still it's own.
Nice lyrics, enjoyed

"Why Am I" I think would work, as a title, as well. I like the concept, a lot!! Good song......addresses the ever, endless quest to have more....to find more....to be more. Kudos!! -Tom
A nice recording, as well!

Very cool performance and production. Ricki I agree with Dave, your vocals are sounding mighty fine. Mike has crafted a solid smoky atmosphere and those guitar runs are sweet and perfectly placed throughout.

Ricki,
Love this!
An exceptional write. Every line good. Nothing out of place..
Your best vocal ever (I think)!
Mike's production is perfect (as always).
This is superb!

Yeah baby,
Love this vibe, not sure exactly as to the meaning, but always important with jazz, as its more about attitude. Hey I liked the idea of a sax weaving in and out. Mike, you have a great sound here, nice production, nice write Rikki! (spring has sprung Michael, come on out of hibernation)

Ricki,
Oh, just give me a cigar and a bottle of scotch, then let me listen to this one a few more times. (Actually, I don't smoke cigars and I'm more of a wine guy, but you know what I mean!). Really slick and smoky; compelling vocal and great solo. Killer listen.
Humble regards,
Deej

This song It's like magic. It is so pleasant very Bluesy, sounds universal. I am satisfy and was entertained I felt, by the most talented artiste that money can pay for from any part of the world. That's how great this song sounds like to me.
Well done.

Thanks Deej. Slick and smokey...sounds dangerously close to a porn movie title. Glad you were compelled to almost taking up some bad habits but not pushed completely over the edge. I couldn't handle having that much power! Ricki

Hi Ricki,
I'm listening to this as I type. I think my fingers are typing an eighth note rhythm.
I love the groove, your presentation and, most especially, the way you sing "Why do I" is spectacular! In addition, the close proximity effect that you have capitalised on with the microphone is very effective. The overall ambience that your singing created for me was reflective and intimate.... a perfect fit with the musical backing.
I enjoyed it.
All the best, Noel

Hi Noel, thank for stopping by and commenting. Mr Producer, Mike Zaneski, knows his way around a song and can make a mediocre, at best, singer sound a whole lot better. I'm glad that you liked the final outcome. Welcome to JPF and I hope you stick around a while and continue to share your music and your insights.
Ricki
