Another from the attic, putting my beatles cap on.

https://maccharles.bandcamp.com/track/officer-pilcher

Officer pilcher

officer pilcher don't look down on us,
we see you when you're,
hiding in the treetops, nobby in the sky,
with your mod squad colors on, perfectly disquised-

officer pilcher don't come down on us,
we know you're out there,
wet your tiny pencil, take your notes again,
peeking through the window but you can't come in-

officer pilcher,
here you are again,
officer pilcher,
you're late, where have you been-

officer pilcher we're all worried now,
you're right behind us,
you look a little pale in your wax moustache,
if you can beat us to the limo, you can plant your bag-

officer pilcher,
here you are again,
officer pilcher,
you're late, where have you been-

we're... no... trouble, burst... your... bubble,
please don't leave that, we don't want your bag-

officer pilcher, you don't understand,
when we listen to your lectures,
smiling in the paper now you're famous like the queen,
stop us rolling numbers down on carnaby street-

officer pilcher,
here you are again,
officer pilcher,
you're late, where have you been-
officer pilcher,
here you are again,
officer pilcher,
you're late, where have you been-

Wow that sounds ALOT like the Beatles, Mixture of I am the walrus and Ballad of John and Yoko in the melody.

Yet it's own. Perhaps even a shade of Grateful dead, something like US blues all cool stuff.

Great work, enjoyed!

Enchanting piece reminiscent of much of the Beatles work. Inspired by some of the police brutality sensitivities of that time which seem now to have resurfaced? Is Officer Pilcher a real person or fictional?

Very enjoyable outing.

My free-associative rambly thoughts on the lyric...

"Pilcher," being archaic for a contemptable person, is the perfect name for the police officer who seems to be working the "marijuana beat" and seems, to the singer at least, the type willing to plant drugs ("plant your bag") to bust kids or at least do lots of spying on them. All told in a very allusive BeatIe-esque way, for sure. That and "mod squad" and of course the music, firmly makes this a love letter to the Late Sixties generally, and The Beatles specifically.

I like the switch from "plant your bag" to "want your bag" cuz with the latter rather anthemic "we don't want your bag" we read "bag" as "line of work" and feel "we see your (Pilcher's) hypocrisy and don't want to BE that, ourselves." All this seems to come through, despite the allusive, psychedelic presentation, and that's a tough balancing act to achieve.

I am only a little underwhelmed by the chorus lyric, but it does make my brain explode with images of Pilcher, popping in and out of churches, cars, the family bathroom window, to hilarious effect, like in some lost old Terry Gilliam animation: Pilcher becoming the "what's wrong with this picture" in a sequence of photographs, whereupon closer look, you can see he's right there, blending in, like a human piece of camouflage. But the chorus is the only part in the song actually lacking in any imagery, per se. And that's probably why it works to some extent, because it's very different, content-wise, from the verses, and makes my imagination kick in more and work a little harder to imagine where Pilcher might've been, indeed...

Anyway, free-associate thought, that's all...

Oh, btw, that photo of you on your Bandcamp page, bottom right, the one half in shadow...I had this (silly and/or amusing) thought, "Mac could moonlight fronting a Tom Jones cover band."

Mike

Yes, true story. Norman "nobby" pilcher was a detective that was charged with making examples of high profile targets in the sixties, harassing the beatles, the stones and others

Wow, that's a bit to digest. It is a bit of a love letter to be sure, if mostly for the beatles and that perfectly brit sound they unashamedly put forth in everything they did. The fact that you know what the whole "bag" thing is, in terms of sixties vernacular, gets you big points over here.

Not to mention, but to mention gilliam, spot on....that was a visual that helped me scoot it along and that's more points right there!

LOL.....tom jones??? That made me laugh.

Those black and whites are from an old cringe worthy photo shoot the label had me sit still for years ago, and there are some doozies in that batch trust me.

Most interesting review to date, thanks for that!!
