Rode the river flowing down to the coast First time overnight on a boat Had to get out before life could sink me Hiding awhile here in Corpus Christi
Got a mind to be a stevedore Enough cargo going by Texas hurricane is headed for shore I wasn't looking to be caught outside (but I’m)
Standing here out in a heavy rain I'm caught out in a hurricane Took my chances with a weathervane Now I'm standing in a heavy rain
Wife and kids are with a better man Won't be sending any money home Cash I grab however I can I’m better off if nobody knows (that I’m
Standing here out in a heavy rain I'm caught out in a hurricane Took my chances with a weathervane Now I'm standing in a heavy rain
I never said I was a gambling man Though every now and again I am When someone’s out to own your flesh by the pound Ain't nobody gonna stay around (so I’m)

Corpus is a pretty little town up against the bay. Wife and I have gone there for a weekend several times over the years. The one issue in the song that is a suspect detail is that the Nueces River is the only one that flows into Nueces and Corpus Christi Bays. And once you're out of the bays the navigability of the river in any large boat is questionable and subject to water flow.
Nonetheless, I get the gist of your song. The Mississippi River in Louisiana or the Tombigbee River in Alabama might have fit the narrative a little better.
LOL Hi Bill. Not quite done yet some lyric changes coming. A bridge was suggested but IMO that changes the nature of "the round"...but thank you for offering. Perhaps when it is done?
Hey Marty...yes I'd thought of that when I was looking at the big picture..but concluded I must have come down the Mississipi....and since I am hiding...I scooched right.
Thank you both for checking in

Hi Rob...Thank you for checking this out. I actually deliberately played around that way...did not think I should adhere to the exact same thing all the way through because it is a 4 chord round (and round)
Thanks Marty....does not fit what happened...I woke at 2am, slinked out of the house, stowed away on a boat (new line...first time I stowed away on a boat)) ...hid until I slipped out of my hiding place and disembarked on the shores of New Orleans (Man that place stinks!...mould in the wood I think) ....there I hid for a number of hours until I could hitch a ride over to Corpus Christi. Went to a local truck terminal to find my willing driver, Bob. Don't know his last name. So sorry I can't make it up to fit your line of thinking

Alternately, you could have stowed away, on the Alabama and jumped out at Mobile Bay Just in time to get caught in a Gulf Coast Hurricane and a heavy Southern rain.
Sorry if my suggestions seem to be ill fitting and pendantic. I've grown up and lived around the Gulf Coast region of the United States for my entire life, so I'm somewhat familiar with the navigability of the rivers and bays.
If I tried to write a song about Canadian geography, I'd be at a loss.
Yeah I used Wikipedia and Google Maps when I wrote the lyric and read about the cut that allows ships in and out...Big oil and container port and rail\transportation hub. I understand the big tourist draw is San Padre islands and coastline moreso than the city itself
The lyric is a metaphor...the heavy rain is both literal in the hurricane but in the situations I am painting. Could have set it in Berlin but the round feel said coast. LOL

When writing songs about the upper Texas coast, keep in mind that the currents bring all of the silt from the Mississippi, Sabine and Pearl and it creates shallow muddy bottoms around here at the coast. They had to dredge out the Houston Ship Channel to make it navigable for offloading freighters just a few miles up from the bay.
I left you comment on other site , up to you if you want to deal with studios , Swings well man . It be a Youtube song , Sing what ya want on any lyrics
We’re all built from the same dust and dreams, Different roads, but the same means.
Do you remember a time when a person could watch open mic at the Bluebird Cafe on line?
Janis Ian was in a writer’s circle, where each performer sang an original song, in turn. She announced the song as just written by her, and told the group ‘You are going to want to cover it’ And then she proceeded to knock everyone out o there seats. Bill
I searched Bluebird youtube archive, but didn't find it. But, i think it was this one >
Remembering this now. This was one of the ones she sang in the round and introduced it by saying. ‘You are going to want to cover it’……Because it’s my autobiography ….making fun of the self centeredness of songwriters.?
The one I liked best was the last one she sang in that set….now I have to see if I can find that!
