We need a song like this, we're too divided.

I think the music could use some work. I think the key is too low on the verses. A bit disconnected., singer sounds like he has a hernia

In the name of making this a useful site, id be willing to redo this music.

Up to you, but I like whete you're going with this

If you want to play with it, that's fine, but please don't post it here before you send it to me first, we worked really hard on it. You can send me the link via DM

Frankly............. "two headed monster" doesn't sound very uniting.............. so never mind. Go write your own song then. No worries.

Kay-Lynn,

I appreciate the effort and sentiment in the song.
But I question the realism of it. There are actual consequences to political movements and the work-out is often not pretty.

Donald Trump and his elections are probably not the most divisive in American history.

That is probably Jefferson v Adams leading up to 1800. Jefferson was slammed as an atheist and slammed for Sally Hemmings. The election went to a draw and was decided in the HOR. It was ugly beyond belief.

Or

Lincoln v Douglas et al. That election resulted in a civil war with 750k causalities plus or minus.

In 1830 Andrew Jackson signed the Indian Removal Act and the tribes were defeated in the SE and relocated to OK. Painful and ugly.

As mentioned in 1860, a massive civil war where 50k casualties occurred at Gettysburg alone.

Then the Indians were subjugated on the Great Plains and West.

Then there was WW1, a European conflict that dragged in the US.
Then a Great Depression. With all sorts of strife and conflict. Even an American coup was planned as I understand it.
Then WW2, another foreign conflict that the US had to get in.

Then after WW2 came PAX AMERICANA which is the measuring stick for the good old days.
It's "Happy Days" was period of about 20 years of peace and prosperity in the wake of 2 world wars and a desperate recession.

My generation immediately took it for granted and began screwing it up.
It appears that we are at the end of the Pax Americana peace cycle.

Buckle up.

The point of all that...
Is that there really never was any blissful "US" that we should all strive to return to. Except for a very brief "Happy Days."
The way things are at present is a return to a natural trend-line, not a dramatic departure from it.

As for the future, I've no idea what happens.
The sides are dug in and the money is gone (debt) so realistic options seem narrow.
My suggestion is that you concentrate your efforts on securing the lives and well-being of those closest to you. (a song topic?)

Ignore all of the above if you choose,

Marty

PS..I look in on your website now and then. It looks like it is gaining momentum. Congrats on that.

Excellent point. For some, these will be the good Ole days., or the dark ages of American politics

And democrats and republicans have never gotten along and willl never agree, its been proven they are wired differently

One thing we can agree on is we are all here, we either live on a 50/50 curve all the time, hate musicians because of who they support, start flame wars on Facebook,

Or we can realize how distant we are and try to realize we are all American, we ain't goin nowhere.

Point is we shouldnt be viewing our lives through a political filter

This is the only political thing I'm gonna say. Ever. The founding fathers warned us against a two party system, they were right but I guess we didn't listen.

This is not a political song AT ALL.

I agree that a solid argument can be made that this is not a "political song."
It seems an appeal to better angels.

OTOH, a case can also be made that everything that has gone wrong in this country is rooted in politics.

FWIW2U, categorically I don't view this song as "political."

regards a 2 party system...IMO, structure would not have mattered.

Yet it is political, cause its talking about the state were at, and need to get back to basics, and clearly aware of the climate

The point of the song is ........... if America was a person, it's just a letter stating what we stand for or strive to be. That's all.

No, that's your little drum to beat.
Everyone here seems to agree that the song is not categorically political.
Personally, I see it more as a "can't we all just get along" song.
That is what I spoke to in my comment.

However,
I think that it is disingenuous to say that anyone can write a song about returning to better times without getting snagged in the political net at all.

America is not a person. America is person(s). Persons are political, even at Bible class sometimes.

Kay-lynn,
you can say whatever you want. Some people here see politics in almost every song. Marty says persons are political. If you write a love song about a person, you're writing a political song. This sucks.

Sunset...................there is nothing in that lyric that says to return to anything. And you're right, as I stated in the song America is not a "place" it's the people who live here. I just America a flawed human being, which we all are. But it's still the best place on earth or we're still striving to be.

No, of course not.

However, If the song was,

"I miss Mayberry and all my friends and relatives who cling to their guns and religion"

then the song would be directly quoting a political figure and therefore decidely political.

Would it not?
