Since I stashed my previous post away for reconstruction (A Picture of Me), I figure it's alright to post another.
I See Her in a Different Light ©2003 Corey Parkman
The dance floor is full but I’m shooting pool Talking trash about my date last night We went out to eat She would hardly speak Girl was cute but she was fiddle tight
As the fellas laugh A beauty walks past And every head at the table turns Sudd’nly I can’t breathe Naw, it just can’t be But in the smoky glow I see it’s her
Chorus I see her in a different light tonight Underneath the neon, boy she’s lookin’ right She didn’t seem to be my type But this vision corrected my sight Yeah, I see her in a different light tonight
I start to say ‘Hi’ but she’s with some guy So I just sit back and enjoy the view A short denim skirt with a cut-off shirt Showing off a Mayan sunshine tattoo
Chorus 2 I see her in a different light tonight Underneath the neon, boy she’s lookin’ right She didn’t seem to be my type But she’s a naughty shade of nice Yeah, I see her in a different light tonight
After my last game Someone calls my name says "Cowboy, why don't we start fresh?" I turn like a flash Jukebox lights are castin' a damn sexy cowgirl silhouette
Chorus 3 I see her in a different light tonight Underneath the neon, boy she’s lookin’ right I thought she was the queen of ice But there’s no way I’ll be wrong twice 'Cause, I see her in a different light tonight

Another take on Hot Under the collar Corey. Who wrote that one now???? Know Butch sings it as i play it often but forget who wrote it. Kicks along good. Graham ------------------ http://www.soundclick.com/bands/2/grahamhendersonmusic.htm

Hey bro..
well i like this...love the mayan tattoo....denim and cut off shorts lines too. however, i have one BIG reservation....the Doug Stone song by almost the exact title......I SEE YOU IN A DIFFERENT LIGHT...that, and the fact that his chorus and this one are similar in that they all have the "I" rhyme. like i said...it's a different song..and i do like.....but it might be too similar in hook and structure (even the melody for that song works here) if that makes any sense? I suppose if the music was just completely different it wouldn't remind someone of the doug stone song, but did for me. Regardless buddy...i think this is well done as usual.

Yep, Graham, another take on a familiar theme. I wrote the words to 'Hot under the collar'..Butch supplied the fine musicianship. Glad you liked this one. I think it needs a similar tune to the previously mentioned one.

Hey Blake. Thanks for droppin' in. Good points all around... I might try to fix that repetitive rhyme scheme. I'm not sure this would get confused with the Doug Stone song just because this one's so different in attitude, and it's meant to be an uptempo honky tonker, and the Stone song is more of a ballad. Buuuuttt, the record execs/publishers,etc. would all remember that one, and that's a big strike against this lyric.... so this might just be a Corey's Archive lyric, like most of 'em end up anyway... Thanks for the comments!

Hello Corey,
I'm not familiar with the Doug Stone song, but I do like this lyric. The chorus picks up the tempo and the storyline holds well throughout.

Howdy Corey,
This is well written, but I am with Blake on this one. I think this is too close to the Doug Stone song in concept to get any consideration, at least in country. You have some great lines here that I would recycle for use in a different song. JMO of course.

Hey Bobbie and thanks for the comments. The more I read Doug Stone's lyric, the more I agree with you and Blake. Sooo, this one goes into the recycle bin.

Hi Corey I go along with the general consensus here, very well written lyric. I can't comment on the similarities with the Doug Stone song since I've not heard it. As someone mentioned there are lots of excellent lines here, just one I found a little too mouthful. The line:"But this vision corrected my sight" doesn't seem to flow naturally on my tonque and also doesn't sound conversational. Well done Jan http://www.soundclick.com/bands/1/janjohansenmusic.htm

This is a great example of story telling and simplicity of words. You take us on a journey and that's what it's all about.
"Queen of ice" soooo nice.

Thanks JVJ. I had a problem getting that line to sing in my head too. I'll try to fix that before this goes (if this goes) to music. I appreciate the comments!
Hey Steven. Glad you liked that line. That was about the last line I wrote of this lyric. Glad you liked the rest too.

Hey Corey, I don't know the Doug Stone tune, but I thought you did a great job with the lyrics. I could visualize the whole thing. Hate to see you trash it. Maybe you could use some of the same stuff and change it up enough to hang onto it. --jeff

Corey I don't know the Doug Stone song either but I will say I like this one. I like how the chorus brings the whole scene home and sums it all up. Good writing buddy yas haven't lost yer touch.

Thanks Jeff and Eric. Jeff, it won't be trashed. I'll probably just recyle lines and ideas in future songs... and hey, if anyone out there wants to write a tune for it, I'm up for it. I think it could sound so different from the Doug Stone song, it wouldn't really matter. Good to hear from you two.
