dear jpf friends, I'd appreciate your feedback on Blue Holiday. thank you Ande Rasmussen www.AndeRasmussen.com http://songramp.com/ande John Gilliam's demo (jan 2005):http://www.songramp.com/mod/mps/srplayer.php?type=hipub&trackid=25677 Halie Loren's demo: (aug 2005) http://tinyurl.com/blueholiday Halie Loren's Cut (2:00 clip) (Dec 2008) from her Many Times Many Ways CD http://tinyurl.com/blueholidayhalie Blue Holiday vocals: John Gilliam produced and performed by John Gilliam written by john gilliam and ande rasmussen (Verse 1) a tropical sea and five lazy days a cool island breeze, and baby I'm sailing away I'm just missing you on a blue holiday (Verse 2) Gardenia perfume blows through my sails out on an open ocean the blossoms fade to pale under the moon on a blue holiday (Refrain) But every time I think of you I sink into a deeper blue the blue of your beautiful eyes as twilite turns to starry skies you're alone at home and I'm lonely in paradise (Verse 3) I order our drinks and toss you a grin you catch with a wink and you whisper kiss me again but its just fantasy on a blue holiday (repeat Refrain) (Verse 4) I stare at the waves and stroll down the beach I'd hold you close but baby you're so far out of reach of my solitude on a blue holiday

Ande, Nice "bluessy" tune. Got up to the first 50 seconds, but kept stalling out on me about every 5 - 7 seconds. Very frustrating stream, and I have high speed DSL. Anyway could you offer a download option? I'd rather download it and then listen without interuptions! ![[Linked Image]](http://www.justplainfolks.org/ubb/biggrin.gif) Thanks! ![[Linked Image]](http://www.justplainfolks.org/ubb/smile.gif) Michael B. ------------------ The OUTLOOK may often appear bleak, but the UPLOOK is always bright!

Andy, I listen to both versions. Take no offense to this but the first version is no where as good as the second version with "the lady singing the blues" and the piano. It sounded so.....much better. Actually it sounds great. Way to go. terribob ------------------ http://www.soundclick.com/bpficklen

Beautiful work! Just a classic. My only suggestion would be to shorten it. It's so much like a classic A-A-B-A format that the repeated refrain and the two verses at the end feel like it's a bit dragged out, at least to me. I think it would be a jewel begging for an encore if you stopped it at verse 3. Just my opinion. Another option would be an instrumental refrain for the second refrain, or an instrumental verse as verse 3. Great song -- just classic. What a treat to listen to. - James ------------------ You can really only please one songwriter at a time. Might as well be yourself! :^) Samples of my music at www.soundclick.com/jamesmitchell.htm [This message has been edited by JamesM (edited 01-09-2006).]

Ande,I agree with James on the AABA format.

I was also surprised to hear John was a girl! I actually poked around and found the real John version.

I like the female version best (she is just too lovely). But I liked John's version too. That guitar sounds so nice. What kind of guitar is that? Sounds both acoustic and electric at different times.
Good song,
Tom

Hi Ande:
I only listened to the new version. Man, it is gorgeous. Great lyrics, nice hook and the sparse backing fits perfectly - you can just imagine her sitting on the piano - while Hoagy Carmichael plays! Really loved it...

Ah, this is sweet. The female vocal and piano are a match made in heaven. Nice to listen to with closed eyes and just fade away.... Great job!

Hi Ande Very nice this, enjoyed every minute. Very reminiscent of the old standard “Making Whoopee” Hmm, I just listened to the other version, although the vocal on the second is stronger. I think the mood is captured far better on the male vocal. Cheers Nige ![[Linked Image]](http://www.justplainfolks.org/ubb/smile.gif)

I could only listen to the tiny URL, the others said couldn't be found on this server for me, but Halie sang it so beautiful.
Sure could make you blue on a blue holiday, lol. Great lyrics.

This is fantastic, Ande and John....just fantastic....!..
and with the word Holiday...so commonly used in Europe as
meaning...going on vacation...I can see this doing well any time...and not just seasonally.

Halie puts so much emotion into the song.....Felt like I was in the audience!

very lovely...

thanks randy I'll talk with my cowriter about the but and see if he wants to remove it from future versions ande Ande, beautiful lyric, beautiful music and Halie definitely captured a blue mood with here wonderful voice.
My one nit/suggestion for future recordings would be the omission or replacement of the word "But" from/in the refrain. Only because it's already (& quite successfully) being used to transition and contrast all 4 verses. So th'n and when I do reach the second refrain the word "But" sounds a little for-lack-of-a-better-word-ish.

Of course this is a personal preference thing, based solely and unfairly on Miss Loren's recording and not the lyric you posted. "But" and still, I think it's worth considering - especially if your mp3 version is similar that way.

Other th'n that... if even that - All the best,
randy

Nice feel to the song. The female version is my favorite. Nice voice for the song. The lyrics work quite well - not the same ol thing. The lyrics sound very conversational and real. Sounds like a good story to listen to.

Halie's version is just a perfect "torch song" evoking those 40's movies that we all love so much. Rogers and Hammerstein would be proud. John's version is fine, too -- but it seems to feel better with the female vocal.

Wow a soothing song! Top notch all the way. I just loved it, and what a great sounding demo.
I hope it eventually will return from holiday, and find some work with a top artist.

I loved the suspension after the second verse right before getting into the refrain, classic stuff.
The tropical theme in the first verse gave me other expectations than a blues arrangement, though.

And one little thing in the refrain for me, is the use of 'blue' twice.

But it is just small guy remarks, it is really interesting to get familiar with your work here, Ande.

Happy New Year to ya'

LIstened again. I would like to offer a constructive critique but can't because it works so well as it is. Sorry, I can't offer any help to make it better but it is too good.

Love it!! Very nice vocal, well suited for the lyric and melody. My computer wouldn't play theewhole song at once, but I'm used to it, so I just sat patiently and waited through the song. I enjoyed it, even in the broken up version I heard here!!

hi Kevin, thank you for your comments much appreciated very insightful ande Halie's version is just a perfect "torch song" evoking those 40's movies that we all love so much. Rogers and Hammerstein would be proud. John's version is fine, too -- but it seems to feel better with the female vocal.

Everything about this is classically magnificent. I'd like to use the singer for a future demo. Is she available?

Hi Magne, thanks listening and your comments I appreciate them and wish you the best with your writing ande Wow a soothing song! Top notch all the way. I just loved it, and what a great sounding demo.
I hope it eventually will return from holiday, and find some work with a top artist.
