What a lovely groove here! Excellent lyric, nice harmonies in the chorus. The whole thing has - for me - an appealing mellow mood. Donna

Hi, Joice; Hi, Calvin!
I love it. Very, very nice. Except for the bridge which I think could be improved. Apart from this little nit, I love this song. Well done.
Yann.

Hey Joice and Calvin:
I really like this. It's a great hook delivered nicely and the melody is very cool.
I can get behind the lyric too - except for maybe one spot. "What matters are the things that didn't last". It's a great and original line but it seems at odds with the hope that the singer has that something will happen here - because if she wants it to matter than she would want to hope it didn't last.
I'm sure I'm over-thinking this - I know what you're really trying to get across there....and it doesn't seem to bother anyone else...
So I spent all this time talking about one line I'm not sure about. Everything else was fab for me!
Scott

Hi Joice and Calvin, This lyric is so different from what you've been doing lately. It's one part love song, one part recipe for "how to be" in love, and I like it a lot. The music and words work together nicely, having a bit of a CS&N vibe. I love the conversational feel of most of this! Mike

Lemon McFartney! Love that. And I love this song! It's STUCK in my head. Joice, you sound really good in this, a really great vocal riff and really well-suited to you. And Calvin, I like your back-up too. Calvin, I should introduce you to The Residents...unless you already know of them. They are my favorite avant garde bizarro scary experimental art band...and you are their lost leader and lyricist. Good songs stick in your head for hours after the first listen. I KNOW I'm going to hear this one in my dreams tonight. So cool!

Hi You Two!
I'm with Mark on this...that tune won't get out of my head. I'm gonna have to do something about it because I have five projects I'm working on for other folks. All five of them shouldn't sound like this!
Calvin, that deep, quiet b/g harmony is just perfect! Joice, as always, wonderful lead vocals. Lots of talent here foe just two people. Nicely done!

Hi Joice and Calvin, It's so nice to see how easily you two switch things up for us. I enjoyed this one a lot -- it's a very poignant mix of acknowledging "what might have been" with a recognition of "what still could be". Your vocal, JM, nicely captures the temerity/hopefulness of the singer -- will it work out? And I thought this section of the lyric was exceptional: Chance and risk Investing your time and mine, in balancing two as one Letting go of fear and taming expectations what it all comes down to, is I've been lonely for years..... waiting for something like this Great use of your intriguing hook -- and it certainly begs the question "what happens"? I hear SEQUEL!!! Thanks for sharing! Beth

Hi Joice & Calvin, This is really nice! I like the whole feel of the song. The lyric is great....and I like the hook. If it helps to know, I did wonder what those things that didn't last were, when I initially read it, but I think I inferred what I thought the singer meant (moments) and didn't think much more about it. I really like those harmonies in the chorus too! Great job, you two! Kristi

Hi Joice & Calvin,
Very cool groove with this one. I like where you go with the chorus, musically and with the harmonies. I little more serious than the last few but hopeful all the same. Another success!

Hi Mike !
Nice new avatar : ) Well I think for the most part - you are right - this lyric actually came about in a bit of a different way and we went with it....... I was definitely going for the 'conversational' aspect -- in talking one to one here... and I don't think that I have ever approached a lyric this way...... Funny you Also mention CS & N -- you are quite perceptive ! -- I have Not been listening to them Lately -- but my trio wants to do a song of theirs like the tight harmonies they do......and that has been on my mind -- I want to work More harmonies into our songs. As always - I enjoy your depths. : ) jm

This really works. I don't want to get it out of my head because I like it so much. The song sounds unified to me - the lyrics, music, vocals and arrangement all work together in a beautiful weave. Great collaboration.

Hi Kristi
Thanks for some confirmation on that line... yes moments could be some of those 'things' -- hmmm 'times' though would seem too exclusive but less vague.... because I see it also as possibly referencing 'people, places, things' we grow out or away from-- perhaps Still cherishing the experience.... so I'm Still FOr the line.....
Glad to hear the harmonies work for you ~~ ! jm

Hi, Joice and Calvin.
I agree with Scott about the "really matters" being in conflict with what the song is saying. Here is a fix for you if you would like it:
Since this is a dialogue between two people, being careful with "you" is important.
I don't know I've always been the kind, to take one day at a time Life passes so fast and when I look behind.... what mattered most were the things that didn't last ...... and the loves I had to let go
If you set it up this way, it is not saying that things that didn't last were most important but that what the singer had lost was important to her/him.
Nice tune.
Re: Chorus: You may want to consider dropping the repeat of speculation in the chorus and adjusting the final note so that it would be like this
Then I'm open to that....... Speculation Yes I'm open to that …
(A little guitar work could be inserted there.)
Good luck to both of you. Nice work.

Hi Jean
All Really Cool suggestions.. I'm gonna discuss it with Calvin - but I wanted to thank you for the great input... I have actually been planning a shorter take without repeating that phrase....... I Do Like Isolating and Ending ON the hook..... but I'll ponder this more. Thanks a Huge bunch for your time and tuning into this song. jm Hi Again Jean after considering and consulting with Calvin -- I think we're gonna leave it as YOu because..... it works for US -- in the sense that It IS a conversation between 2 people --- but in making that point the singer is referencing the Universal 'YoU" which is totally acceptable in literature........... BuT I do hope to do and edited version without repeating the hook line twice at some point in the near future.

Hi Joice, and Calvin,
I think I'd like the bridge to show some variation in the groove, more than anything else. THe main rhythmic pattern is very good, but you may think about changing it a bit in the bridge section. It doesn't seem to bother anyone else, though, so you may as well forget it, lol.
Keep up the good work, and kudos for your collaboration(s). Take care, Yann

Hi Joice
Nice to see you are still here makin good music. This one is my favourite of yours so far. Almost sounds like 'Horse with no name' by America in places (just the vibe I get). It's very nice indeed. My only criticism is that is seems a bit long for the amount of variation in the piece.

Hi Mark
Thanks for listening -- I have that song SOMEwhere in my archives... I'll give it a spin... Yes -- it did turn out a bit longer than I intended -- so I had been planning a shorter take from the first rough.... I found this tempo to feel right -- so -- editing lines is the thought for a second version... I'll try that. : ) Glad that you like it though jm
