In a beat up, cardboard frame upon her dresser. A picture of a soldier , young and strong. And a tattered envelope that holds a letter, From a boy turned man too soon in Viet nam.
Dear Ruby jean, I miss you, please be strong, The war will soon be over, I’ll be home before too long.
It tells of how his unit met the hostiles, On a routine night patrol in old Saigon. And how a sniper , in a window, opened fire. And when he fell, it seemed to take so long. Cho He goes on to tell of all the hell he’s been through. And the pain he feels will surely drive him mad. But the nurses seem to care and try to cheer him. And all in all, the food is not too bad. Cho Break Now the last few lines were writen by his chaplin About the bravest lad that he had ever seen. And it’s a sad,sad world when things like this can happen. And the last words on his breath were Ruby Jean[/b]

Another good one, Jak. Sad, though. Been listening to some really good stuff the past 2 days on the mp3 board. Thanks for sharing.
"Grits is one of those country-boy words that is both singular and plural-like deer, elk and sheep. I think the singular is appropriate when there's a modifier that makes it clear one is talking about something specific. Like, 'Grits are good for you, but these here grits is tasty.'"~~Joe Wrabek

Well written, well performed song. I don't seem too many songs from you, but this is a good one.
I am undecided about the talking only last verse, though. I have to think on it some, but I would have kept the music going.

Hi Jak
Catchy title -- and very nice melody-- this sounds like perhaps a Very strong Live performance piece the way you deliver it... but I think that for the recorded version - I would play the music to the end...maybe even make it a wee bit bigger musically there -- a matter of taste, I'm sure. Thanks for sharing. : ) jm

Nice to meet you.
This is just a beautiful song, lyrics, melody and recording. You have a beautiful voice to deliver it too,

this is just great. it especially hits a nerve with me, because my moms name is Ruby Jane, and my brother Randy was in vietnam. he died in a car accident just months after he came home, caused by the blackouts he'd been having. wonderful song.
There are no more new frontiers.. We have got to make it here

You have a great voice! If you're not already doing voice-overs, you might give it a try. Nice job on this.

Jak, for some reason i haven't known about you long, it has been said at times i'm completely uninformed , but as an artist and writer i dig what you're doin', the originality of delivery on this one is superb...have some fun, it's summer...moker

Moker,
JAK (who is kind of my neighbor) wrote songs that were recorded by the Kingston Trio among others, so he is far from a beginner!!!!

Colin, hope i didn't imply he was any kind of beginner, i could tell from the first plucks of the strings he's a seasoned player, Kingston Trio huh, cool, thanks for the tip...if he was my neighbor he'd probably get tired of me trying to write songs with him...ha Jak- still have some fun, it's summer house concerts are big fun we played a 50th birthday party at a house for a former national champion Georgia football player last week- the girls got drunk mj
