Well this makes me nervous! But I bought a new camera on vacation and it takes videos. I thought what the heck so I tried it. I know the lighting is not good but I kind of think the less of me you see the better (I've reached that age). This is an older song but one of the few I can actually play all the way through and works with just guitar and vocals. I'll post the lyrics even though theoretically you are watching the vid not reading lyics. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kHUsiWWaQHQAlone Words and Music by Tom Franz © 2005 I make it through the day ok My friends think I am on my way That I am strong and over you But actually that is not quite true Friends and colleagues are a perk We go to lunch and have drinks after work I tell jokes and I slap their backs I’m just fine till right after that Chorus Then I’m alone Chilled to the bone I just can’t stand that your not there Deep in the night I just can’t win this fight This is more than I can bear There must be a way Words I can say So you’ll understand that I am your man So you’ll come home and I won’t be alone V2 On the weekend I get around Friends and movies all over town I talk to people on the bus I’m the kind of guy that people trust I meet a friend for dinner and some laughs We’re careful to avoid the past He drops me off and asks how I’m getting by I try to smile but I start to cry Chorus Bridge I go over this again and again Can’t believe you are in love with him I hate when I start to crawl But I’m going to make that late night call Chorus

Hi Tom, Good to SEE ya ! GREAT performance and a real cool song too. Ps.. I think the lighting/shadow, etc along with this sad song makes this some very powerful entertainment. Thank you for sharing. Calvin http://www.soundclick.com/bands/0/calvinstewart

Hi Tom, This is so cool, all these videos. Just an avatar doesn't really connect the voice to the person, but seeing/hearing the words come from your mouth, is such a treat. It's like getting to know you a little bit more. You looked and sounded very comfortable and relaxed. And to top it all off, the song was wonderful as well. You look good in dramatic lighting. The only word in the whole song I'd change is in the 3rd line of the chorus. "I just can’t stand that you're not HERE" It was good seein' ya! Ricki

What a neat song, Tom. You played and sang it perfectly. Loved the shadowing in the video. Don't know if it was planned that way, but it worked.

Very cool, Tom!
The lighting you used and the choice of Black and white was very effective.
Nice sound too!

Hi Tom The song was beautiful and the video was very good, great sounding! And I love the shadow. You really did great playing live in all of this. I HAVE to take songs in sections now You have that great distinctive voice. Do you know how many people here I've told "You should get Tom Franz to sing this" go ahead ask them you'll see lol Wonderful Tom Really! Mike

Thank you Calvin.
Ricki, Yeah I'm ok singing into a mic in an empty room but add one person and I freeze. By the way I like your idea for that line that has always bugged me too. I think I will use that.Keep the ideas coming and it will be a cowrite.
Thanks Todd, and you thought you were the old dude.
Rick, You died your hair! Thank you and the lighting was an accident.
Scott, you were the guy who inspired me to do this. Thanks for stopping in. The lighting was an accident. But not the black and white. I showed this to Wendy D before I posted this and she asked "why you sitting over there in the dark"
Bater dude you are the kindest darn kid. Someone raised you right. Thank you for the kind words and seriousness with which you take my work.
Mike, How nice of you to say that stuff. It means more than you can know. Thank you.
Ellen, Thank you my friend. You know us songwriters will try to find inspiration anywhere. This happend when Kathy (my wonderful wife) went to visit a girl friend for the weekend and I made some inappropriate suggestions about the two of them spending the weekend together. And to tease me back Kathy said be careful what you wish for you can't help who you fall in love with. And BANG that was all I needed by the time she got home on Sunday I had this song written. So now you know it all started with an innapropriate comment.
Joyce, Thanks for stopping in and the thumbs up!
Jan, Thanks so much I am glad you enjoyed it.
Tom

Great to see a board member in action. That's a very appealing gruff voice you have.

Hey Tom, WOW man, I love this! You both sound and look great.. nice to see ya!
This song is KILLER!. Really catchy, beautiful, well written with a great natural flow, and followed up with your excellent performance!!
Brought a tear to my eye.. and have anyone told you, that you look a bit like Nick Lowe? But sound way better!
This must be your best Tom. Top notch!

Man, I love that lighting effect you have going on -- and then the guitar kicks in and that sounds great. Your voice is very good and distinctive -- and you impart a soul to your tunes that most of us just can't match.
Mighty, mighty fine.

Good song, obviously personal but well played and surprisingly well recorded. There are a lot of video's that employ that half lit technique in other genres and it suited the song even if it was not intentional.

So glad I didn't miss this one Tom. Feel like I was eaves dropping and peeking in on a private heart venting session through song. The shading, though accidental, was ideal. Everything is right, your voice, the melody, and your Chorus is the crux but it's deluxe (had to get a rhyme in there!) Lyrically I think it could be alittle stronger and just in certain parts. You use the word "friends" in all 4 of your verses and not sure that's a good thing. I add a few words also to make the meter flow alittle better. Not sure about the "perks" and "colleagues", in verse 2 maybe go a little simpler there. You have:Friends and colleagues are a perk We go to lunch and have drinks after work I tell jokes and I slap their backs I’m just fine till right after that Maybe:Go out for drinks with guys from work I've gotten good at hidin' the hurt I tell them jokes and slap their backs I do real fine till after that In verse 2 you have:On the weekend I get around Friends and movies all over town I talk to people on the bus I’m the kind of guy that people trust Consider:Each time the weekend rolls around I just see clouds and rain come down I talk to strangers when I ride the bus I wind up talkin' bout the two of us (Didn't see how the "guy people could trust" line fit in w/the story). Also, Not sure you need that very last verse before your bridge????? Just some ideas to keep or sweep. Great song and feeling in your song Tom. Thanks for sharing. Love your voice!!! Best, Lynn P.S. You are singing some things different then you have in print so you might want to listen as you read and make the changes to the print in case you ever pitch.

Howdy Tom, Gus here. Enjoyed the video, & the listen. For such a casual set up, & setting, it felt really intimate, like someone lamenting to themselves.............Very Nice.....Gus
